Four Ideas Over G, C, and D to Begin Creating Flatpicking Lines
HTML-код

- I mean it this time...I will start posting new videos! In this video I encourage you to memorize these four ideas over G, C, and D.
1) Classic G Run (my way of doing it)
2) Fiddle style Doc inspired idea
3) Monroe mandolin inspired idea
4) Chromatic flatpicking idea
This lesson does not include much theory or technique concepts -- rather, the intention is for you to learn and memorize these specific ideas. This way we can use these lines to create variations in the future.

Great lesson and tips! Some solid runs to memorize and practice. Thank you.
Do what Mikey tells you until it becomes second nature and you'll be well served by these ideas. I could use a little review myself. 🙂
I loved this lesson. It is already showing up in my improvisation when I might not have played the tune before and everyone is looking at me to play something that fits somewhat tastefully, lol. I’m taking online lessons with Mickey and he has helped me a bunch already.
It's a wonderful feeling when you start rambling over the fretboard like on a sunday afternoon walk. Thank's a lot for the good lesson, Mikey😊
It took a month, there are at least 20 licks here, completely altered my guitar learning direction in a way Mickey showed is awesome baby, really.
It was hard.
I'm a beginner player and this is super motivating to hear! yay
Thanks Mickey, Great Lesson !
@@johndovi118 you are welcome 😎🎶
Simple runs. Great bluegrass lesson. Thanks. I’m gonna start working on them
Glad you enjoyed it Larry!
Seriously clear teaching ability, dude.
Thank you, Keith!
@Mickey Abraham that’s amazing. What a great lesson with so many choices. Thanks for sharing this with me.
Great stuff. Love it 🤠🎸👍🏴
thanks!
This is the most useful video I've found since I started learning how to flat pick. Thank you!
I very much appreciate you telling me that!! More videos to come 😎
I second that very good lesson with stuff you will actually use great video my man thanks 🇮🇪🇮🇪🎸🎸🎸Brian
Nice nuts and bolts lesson Mickey. I like the pause before the Munroe lick, so it ends in time. I also noticed that you have a built in sense of dynamics, highlighting the big notes, at the right times.

Nice 👍 that chromatic lick for sure inspired by Norman Blake ❤
Norman does indeed have some slick chromatic runs!
Thank you, it’s hard to find good lessons out there.
These are some of the best I’ve come across. I’ve been playing Rock& blues for 30 years. Learning blue grass now and these are really helping.
@@TheBreakEvenBoys thank you!!
Having the video to refer to really helps to reinforce these ideas! I will practice like a ninja!!! :)
I like the way you showed how to use Strum Machine to practice.
I use it every day !
Bring it Mickey. we need this.
Hey Noah!
Unreal stuff I love this type of stuff it’s not overly complicated and it can be used in real life instead of a Bb75 over a 9 with a 6 on top 😂😂😂thanks Mickey I love your lessons I’m Gona learn a lot from u cheers my man .. Brian Ireland 🇮🇪🎸🎸oh I just bought strum machine it’s a great little app although sometimes I use a looper but strum machine is so convenient and great for practice thanks again so happy I found you .. excellent teaching I will be spreading the word bro about you 🇮🇪🇮🇪

It took me a week to figure out the chromatic pentium. Now I can try all of the over Strum Machine.
Thanks Mickey, you are a gift to us all 🙏🎸👍

Great lesson ! Thanks a lot for this good stuf ! Cheers from france 😇👍
Excellent. We hear Jerry Garcia’s roots. Did he not start out teaching Bluegrass?
standing ovation for this lesson!
Thank you Will!
Excellent lesson Mickey, thanks.
You’re welcome ☺️
Mickey, new subscriber here. It appears that you have the runs.
😂😂
Great lesson!!!!
Thank you, Ralph
@@MickeyAbraham2022 would you happen to have any more old school fiddle lick’s available that you could share with us? I am new to the bluegrass style, mainly studied jazz and am really loving the fiddle type stuff. Greatly appreciated Mickey!
That strum app is really helpful!
I make my students use it. It’s essential for zoom lessons.

How do I find the G, C, D progression you’re using on the Strum Machine app?
@@kyoaty you can create your own strum machine songs. I called this one G Jam 1.
But, even if you didn’t create it yourself, there are plenty of Bluegrass standards that use this same progression- like Blue Ridge cabin home.
@@MickeyAbraham2022 that’s what I was wondering -if there was a standard that used that progression
I see now after messing around with the app how to create progressions.
It’s a great tool and I really enjoy your instructional style, thank you
Look forward to more but, I’m in no hurry these will keep me busy for quite some time
Great lesson, thanks a lot❤
Hi Mickey. This, and the follow up, are awesome. I am going to be working on these starting today. Love this way of being clinical but having it applicable to improvising. It seems simple but trying to remember them all to mix it up in the fly will be where the rubber hits the road. Wish me luck!
Btw, and this is my first impression - I really like how you are explaining and demonstrating it all. Very clear and easy to understand how to develop this foundational skill. My only wish, and this is relatively small. Is that you play each example a few times through to make it easier to play along a couple of times to get it down.
Thank you! Try slowing down the video (click the gear icon) and repeating that part of the video over and over again 🙌
More videos coming! Let me know if you’d like to do a zoom lesson sometime 😎
@@MickeyAbraham2022 i was already thinking a zoom class would be good. I've noticed you joined the LWM clan - nice! I will reach out soon. Want to work through these a little bit so I can come with specific questions on the parts that are giving me trouble.
New sub here. Thanks for this well-explained and demonstrated video!
Glad you enjoyed it!
@@MickeyAbraham2022 I've been playing for over 50 years and just recently wanted to get into bluegrass more, especially after watching Molly Tuttle play. This helps explain the 'ideas' behind bluegrass picking (any videos on crosspicking would help too!) Thanks again!
This was very helpful,,,thanks
Mickey BG 101!

Dude...I got a 12pk of beer...lemme grab my guitar and I'll b right over.

you're welcome! new videos coming soon... I promise :)
@@MickeyAbraham2022 Cant wait. You articulate these so clearly , appreciate that. I average more epiphany's with your lessons than others by a mile.
Thank you!! Let me know if you ever want to set up a zoom/skype lesson
