I got to chat with Trey at some length after a show while the main act was performing, and he couldn't have been more gracious patiently answering all my stupid questions. His skill level is obviously otherworldly, but he also comports himself in a very humble, approachable way. He has it all going on.
No doubt he has incredible technique, but what amazes me more is his singing. What a voice he has!
It's like if Merle Haggard and Tony Rice had a baby
@@MrMusicfan678
They called him Haggard Rice.
Was just thinking that
He has a great voice
Trey is a power house guitarist and singer .Incredible chops and lines
This dude and Molly Tuttle are just dominating bluegrass right now. So inspiring!
He played a solo show last night for maybe 100 people in the tiny little G.A.R. hall here in Ohio between Nitty Gritty Dirt Band gigs and OMG, Trey solo was amazing. Picking, singing.. all top, top notch. And I got to meet one of my guitar hero's last night! THANKS TREY! You destroyed that room!
I have always been a huge Jimi Hendrix fan. I dedicated to learn so much of his music and style. When I found Tony Rice, it opened a whole new world for me and I love it.
My guitar teacher when I was a teen, told me if I wanted to learn how to play like Jimmy, I need to unlearn everything, including how to tune the guitar properly. 😂
Dang, you've come closer to Tony than anyone I ever heard. Fantastic work. He's a legend, and you've filled those shoes pretty well.
Nope, he's got the notes but he doesn't have Tony's tonality, which most don't.
TREY HENSLEY is the man!!
So underrated!
Billy Strings can’t tote TH’s guitar case!
Seen Trey in ATL with Rob Ickes and Tony Emmanuel few years ago… definitely a top performance of my life!
Amazing technique. All coming out of the loose wrist. Really inspiring! I’m gonna go grab my D-28 now.
He’s so freaking good
Very nice! Singing sounds like a cross between Randy Travis and the Hag.
Thanks for playing and explaining all that.
Awesome. And thank you for reintroducing me/us to Tony Rice.
amazing. i had no idea trey had the voice of an angel too!
No doubt. I want to hear him sing more!
This guy is the bomb
Hell yea one of my favorite players rn
So jealous of talent like Trey's. His picking and voice are awesome. Also watching Wyatt Ellis up and coming on mandolin. Just great talent coming up. Wish I could play but I suck. These guys are great.
DAMN! Just great grinnin’ and pickin’ !
My god…the amount of accurate hammer on’s and pull offs!
Tony Rice was a KILLER. Great playing. Would kill to play like you at 50 bpms.
Great stuff
Maybell is where it’s at! Glad to see this video!
Damn. That is good stuff!
Love me some Tony rice music
Nicely done, truly enjoy your videos. What model is that guitar and why is it black? Thanks again Trey and please do more.
Martin.....
Incredible playing and singing! I have a technique question. I can see you resting on your right pinky, but when you’re really picking fast, do you lightly rest your palm/heal on the bridge too? Thanks!
Master
Strings and Hensley tour 25’
Anyone know which Martin this is? The Black Smoke 000-17 is the one I got but if I'd seen this one, I'd have waited.
Apparently it was a limited run from CME/Reverb. Looks and sounds stellar!
Looks like it might be a 0000, or M style with a 16” lower bout.
@@REBrandenburg I think you're right about that! Those are highly under-rated. Whatever it is, they should make more. Very cool build!
Under the Double Eagle, is a German marching tune, and was not played in the US during WW II, and for a while afterwards.
True, to be nitpick, it´s an Austrian/hungarian tune because the "double eagle" (anb eagle with two heads) is the heraldic symbol of the Austrian Hungarian Monarchy, hence the weird name:)
@@kw9172 true! it's Austrian
Wow, great guitar player. Then suddenly I start hearing Randy Travis come out. Sheesh!
Phenomenal guitar player .You don’t have to have a dreadnaught to pick bluegrass. Nice to see someone thinking outside the box and doing his own thing.
Dreadnought is preferred because the volume and projection is needed for soloing to be heard over other instruments.
Holy frijoles my good fella. What happens when you put a red hot telecaster with a cranked fuzz pedal in your hands?!?
Jerry Garcia, circa 1969
Man! Can beat the brakes off of metal players
What about a man named J D Jarvis a Kentucky Gospel bluegrass, player, ever heard of him?
Seems like Easily played
But how it is difficult to play what he has done
Slow him down usung the 'cogwheel' icon at the bottom of the picture and have a go at working something out.
maybe would have been a good idea to film from the other side so we could see his picking
Thems cousin bangin’ tunes right there. Bang yur first cousin, then yur second cousin, and so on, all while pickin’ & grinnin’.
I trusted him until he used that Kyser capo…..
There aint nothing wrong with a Kyser lol
@@amcdonaldscoffee2076 I’m well aware. I took guitar lessons from Trey and we joked about them a couple times.
😂
Norman Blake wrote Church Street Blues. Not Tony Rice.
I never said Tony wrote “Church Street Blues”…it was just a demonstration of Tony’s playing style on his (pretty famous) cover of the tune.
Church Street Blues was written by Norman Blake.
