    I prefer the old figures for pretty much everyone here. the way they were painted was so elegant and detailed. it perfectly evoked the movies. the new figures are a little bit watered down and generic. they are “more in line with other figures” but i loved the originals because they were so unique. the expressions on the old figures are also so in line with the character’s personality. Frodo’s “Vietnam stare” is basically his constant state after he gets the ring.

      @@dimhollow55 I have all of the old ones and I will most likely swap the legs and weapons out on some of them. A lot of people say they don't need to put a lot of detail into them because it's a kids toy. I get that it's a kids toy and all but when it comes to collectors sets like this one I think they should put a bit more effort into it.

    • @dimhollow55
      @dimhollow55 Год назад +7

      @@sirunclejim7217 Yeah I totally agree, and they have put in a lot of detail into the actual build for sure. i think what it comes down to is the balance between how Lego as a brand is supposed to look and how the characters actually look. and The old figures took more liberties with being accurate to the film and that’s just what I prefer at the end of the day

    It's also important to note that these minifigures are from different points in the story from each other.
    The new Rivendell minifigure are in their regal council clothes, while the clothes and facial expressions from the older figs are from when they were fighting orcs, Nazgul, and/or Shelob. Frodo and Sam's clothes showed progressively more wear and tear as the series progressed. Also, no one had their Lothlorien elven cloaks yet at this point.

    I think all the new ones are better but there are a few issues with them, like the hairpieces for Arwen and Elrond. They have the same generic elf hair and that’s the problem with Lego now, they use the same thing consistently and it doesn’t work. Also I think elronds a great figure but I have one main issue which is the face. I think the face he has in the new Rivendell set makes him look 20. Also I think it would’ve been better if Elrond had had old hairpiece as well

    It's kind of a case by case basis, but I feel like with Frodo I like the original torso more, the new one just looks too simple to me, though I love the detail added to all of the hobbit legs.
    Gandalf, the old head is better, and I prefer getting actual legs to the skirt piece, but the new torso is definitely better. Gandalf did get a hair piece in multiple sets.
    With Gimli I think the old beard color is better though I like that you can actually see his torso now. I do think that the new hairpiece doesn't really work though and if they wanted to give him hair they should have made a second beard piece that includes beard and hair.
    New Legolas has better legs and torso, but the head and hair do not work with the new one at all, Classic Legolas definitely wins on hair and head.
    Hair and face I prefer on Classic Arwen, clothes I like better on New Arwen, but they are completely different outfits so that's moot.

    To be honest, most of the new minifigure faces are very inaccurate compared to the old ones. The only new faces that are better than the old ones in my opinion are Frodo and Boromir's. I think the major reason why so many of the new faces are worse than the old ones is because they are being re-used, like Legolas, Arwen and Gandalf's faces for example. If you look at the old figures, all of those faces were exclusive to just that one character which makes them more movie accurate

    All the designs are amazing. I love a lot of the extra attention to detail. But a lot of it doesn’t sit well with me. Other than Boromir I found the old mini figures to be better. I don’t care for the new faces either. They all give them looks and designs that make them seem a bit childish. Like the printing and design for the faces look like that which Lego would normally do for child figures. Also not a huge fan of the new Elf hair pieces other than for Elrond and the extra 2 elves that come in the set. Another issue is that the hair swap for Merry and Sam is so odd to me. The way it was done originally was perfect and now they switched it for no reason and it looks less accurate. Other than that they are Amazing!

      Definitely will give some of them the old hair and head pieces when I get my hands on this set. Plus Gimli needs his short legs back, the beard piece already made him slightly taller than the Hobbits, enough imho.

    Dude, you gotta put the new hairpiece on the old Legolas and vice versa. It’s the only way to figure out if the Han face is truly bad for Legolas

    I actually like most of the old ones better. For example, the new Gandalf doesn't have wrinkles like the old one did and is just to overdetailed.

    I personally prefer the facial expressions on the original Frodo Baggins minifigure over the newer one. The alternate expression on the newer one looks a bit too cartoony.

    The build is absolutely incredible. Basically perfect imo. I absolutely love the Hobbit figures too. The dual molded legs are amazing. I don’t particularly like any of the elves though, but honestly it doesn’t bother me that bad. I’m very excited to get this set!
