I actually prefer the size of the old plane better and you forgot to mention that the wing split is activated with the press of the cockpit which was super cool….and the biplane design was already so good that there’s no need for a new one. Cheers
Yeah the action feature on the original Pilatus P-2 plane was the highlight of the original set and is sorely missed in the new version. It's a shame that it was missed on this comparison. The canopy is much better in the new one since it is enclosed, but the play feature on the original is a major reason why it was not enclosed, which changes the nature of this comparison. Not a bad review, but not entirely comprehensive either...
well for the People (including me) who missed out on that plane set long ago i think its a very welcoming set.
@@Moonwatcher2 I just got it last week, and i must say that, in hand, the plane looks better than the old one. The only thing is, the older set has the Bi plane that goes really well with the newer fighter!! :D
I Don't Like to Brag But I Have the Lego 2023 Fighter Plane Chase Set
To be fair the German Pilot is more accurate in the newer version. The older version is wearing the same uniform that all of the Indiana Jones German Soldiers wore, rather than a pilot uniform.
Yeah the old pilot has a kar98k belt and thats a rifle. Pilots dont Carrey rifles
I Hope he remembers that the original German plane you can just press on the back window and the wings shoot out. And also the new German pilot is an exact look of a Luftwaffe pilot!
The older Henry Jones Sr. Minifig is so much more detailed than the new one, especially the torso

I'd say that it's mostly just the difference on the graphic styles, just different directions where they used to aim for unlike the more modern style, but the old head is definitely better
I think the other two sets in this wave beat their older versions, but not this one. The old one gives you a larger plane, a second plane (which is infinitely more iconic to this scene than the car), and more detailed figures
The fact you could recreate the "I'm sorry junior, they got us" scene is a default win
Did you mention the tilt on the wings on the new plane? That makes it a better ww2 replica imo which was iconic during the war. The new copit is also way more accurate for the time Indiana Jones was set.
Wait he says the Old Henry has better printing but he thinks the new one outdid it? The old one is clearly better than the new one other than the back printing.
I think over the course of 15 years since it’s release, you may have forgotten the play feature on the original fighter 😅
If you press down on the rear cockpit screen, it pushes both of the wings outward rather than having to manually break them off like in the newer set. I only mention this because that one feature makes the original a bit more fun for me personally! Great review, I always look forward to hearing your Indy thoughts!
When I was a kid i drew a tie on one of my Indy minings with a marker lol. glad to have a printed one now
If you have both of these sets you could pretty much recreate the entire plane chase scene from the movie.
The value that the current set offers is amazing. I've been out of the Lego collecting scene for a while, but this might bring me back. Very tempting...

I love the new set! The car looks soo nice. It's a great set for it's price point. The minifigures are so cool!
This was definitely an interesting video because this was the one Indiana Jones set I had growing up. I still have the Enemy plane intact in my storage bin as well as the Henry Jones Sr figure but the rest of the set wasn’t as lucky. I have those 2 cross sticker tiles at 6:10 on a mars rover moc I made as a kid & that D - EKVY slope piece in my endless bin of loose parts. This past summer I ordered a new Indiana Jones figure as well as Mutt Williams & a Crystal Skeleton just so I could have those. The old Indiana Jones figure stands up quite well, especially compared to how off some of the other minifigures from the theme aged. Can’t wait to get the new sets! Hopefully we get more after this wave!
I think the only way to properly compare them is that it’s part 1 and part 2 of the 3 part chase
i like them equally for that but i think newer is better value

I prefer the new pilot as its more acurate to an actual n$zi fighter pilot . I also agree that the old plane looks better but the new one is more accurate to the film

The new Pilot was, surprisingly for Lego, actually based off the uniform the Lufftwaffe Afrika Korps.

I wings on the old plane pop out automatically by pressing on the back of the canopy. That’s why it doesn’t have space for the gunner.
I feel like if you just frankenstein them up and switch some body parts of the old and newer versions of the minifigure, you could make a combination of the minifigures that would look awesome.

Imo the first Henry Jones Sr. figure is SOOOO much better. More detailed, and honestly looks more like Sean Connery.
I was excited for the Indiana Jones theme returning but the older sets have a if a ain't broke don't fix to them. The 18 plus set is vastly improved but the figures and other 2 sets are kind of downgraded. I hope they make a polybag so I can get the new Indy figure for cheap and not get these mediocre sets and while I love the new idol temple set I wouldn't have the space for it and I'm saving that money for other sets.
I just copped this set today, and I was amazed at how cheap it was for its size; I’m not too versed on determining prices based off of pieces count, but I’m usually able to estimate it based on the size of the box. Excellent addition to my collection!
Honestly I prefer thinner boxes. They just seem easier to manage - easier to carry, easier to store and also nicer to display if that's your thing. Of course the box here is huge compared to the size of the set, so for this set the smaller box is probably better. But if it was a bigger set I'd prefer the thinner box.
Old set is better for me. The car from the new set is what’s I would get build for my set. Thanks for the review 👍🏽
The uniform the pilot wears is actually a lego-ified historically accurate luftwaffe summer suit
Honestly if you look at the actual plane that was used in the movie the new one more accurately represents it. I definitely like the engine area better too the old one was very squared.
I really prefer the more detailed torso print on the old one. The new prints on minifigures in general look a bit too cartoonish and stylized.
You forgot the feature in the old plane where you push the cockpit and the wings eject lol. That is enough to give it the W over the new one :)

So after looking at some pics and detailed reports on the plane from. The movie (originally the plane was designed for the movie, not a real plane irl) The miniature model had no propellers on it but it was heavily based off of a real plane with three propellers. Some shots in the movie tho make it look like it has three blades while other four. I believe the three blades is probably more accurate.
Ironically both are not accurate in the fact that the plane wasn’t grey at all and was entirely grey green camo all over it
The new sets plane is more accurate to the movie and the actual plane. So that’s why
I'm not big on the less detailed figs and the stud shooters, I know it adds a play feature but I'd have prefered they kept the guns.
Really is a tough pick - I like the new car better than the old red and white plane, but I definitely prefer the old Nazi plane over the new one. 50-50

The original Lego Indiana Jones, did ship with multiple face prints, depending on the set, as well as different outfits, and dual faces. There was a lot of variety in the the old one, for the time
i disagree, the old print for Senior Jones is far superior with detail -- still would have been nice to have his book back then, but I understood the limitations. I just feel like the newer designs are taking too much of a simplistic take.

I think the pilot minifigure is actually way better now as it is more accurate to a pilot uniform. The old version is wearing the web gear a foot soldier would wear, and the gloves on the new pilot are also more appropriate
you completely missed the play feature of the old set. You have to push the top of the back windscreen and the wings get ejected. It's so much cooler than the new version.

As a warplane buff the biplane is pretty good for lego, the monoplanes however both have their odd quirks, the older sets “messershmidt” is more accurate to the real plane, the the wing is mounted too far back on the fuelsolodge and the cockpit is just goofy. Still better than the new one though, it looks like a civilian model trying to put on military camo

Even the Luftwaffe pilot? He is 100% accurate to his irl counterpart.

The New pilot is more accurate. Search up luftwaffe ww2 pilot uniform . Old torso looks cooler but new one is wayyy more accurate.
I’m pretty sure the new plane is more accurate to the actual German planes used in ww2 as for the older l don’t recall them having one with that particular wing shape
The new plane is pathetic, hugely disappointing. The designer didn’t even look up the type of plane it was in the movie. I’m not asking for UCS quality and accuracy, but at least something that reasonably captures the proportions and details of the real aircraft (and looks better than a 6-year-old’s MOC).

Lego really didn’t skip a beat with the minifigures. The resemblance to Sean Connery on the Henry jones figure is unbelievably spot on. The Indy figure although a bit too LEGOified is still a brilliant update and even the fighter pilot wearing the accurate nazi flight suit. Genuinely go look it up the nazi luftwaffe summer pilot jumpsuit from the Second World War. It’s exactly what’s on the minifigure. Exactly the same. Lego really didn’t need to do that, how they got away with it either I’m not sure but yeah fair play.
The new german pilot is much more accurate, because he has the actual uniform used by the Luftwaffe during ww2
The first set is better but I prefer the second based on price/value.

As much as I like the new model, the old model is bigger, has a better wing function, and has another plane to go with it, which, to me, is more valuable than the car. I definitely prefer the old one.
