I lived in a HOA gated community house years ago and had to repair the roof due to hail damage…the neighbors reported me because the new shingles were darker shade than everyone else’s 🤦🏻♀️ I had to show my roofing paperwork that it was the same color as every other house the only reason it looked darker was because it was brand new and didn’t have years of sunlight hitting them yet fading the darkness
You can't fix ignorant people.
Right!!! Some people just need to mind their business…honestly if they would have never reported out my roof was darker I would have never even noticed
Neighbor: YOUR roof bothers ME no end.
Well that's your fault you should have made absolutely sure the color matched regardless. And if the sun would make it fade then we expect you to continually change it.
Okay, so you showed that shingles are the same. Problem solved. Everyone's house that's around you keeps its resell value.
Best reason never to build or buy in a neighborhood like this.
Yeah for anybody who lives here in the area Riverton area is where all the snob is go to live but their homes and properties are managed and pretty much owned by HOA.. the people just pay the bank. I'll stay in the ghetto where nobody tells us what to do😂
That was their mistake; now it’s just going to be neighborhood guerrilla warfare indefinitely.
Would you want this monstrosity right next to YOUR house whether or not it was in this type of "neighborhood" blocking your view of the sky and looking down on your naked body while you sunbathe as it is slathered with coconut body butter in your backyard? Really?

He's negatively impacting the resale value of those homes in that neighborhood.
The HOA is only upset that they failed to word their agreements in a way that would prevent this.
Not thinking that's the case. Pretty sure the whole "doesn't fit the neighborhood" part is all they have to argue and that's a no-brainer win for them.

Then that wording had better be in the covenant by-laws or whatever they're called. Otherwise it's no win at all if the homeowners decide to legally challenge it.

Over a dozen years ago, I worked in a cubicle adjacent to a woman in her 40s. She spent a hell of a lot of company time either calling up her teen son to micromanage his afterschool activities or making calls where she was clearly plotting with other HOA board members to persecute residents who were poorer, had trouble keeping up their properties due to age or disability, etc. These entities definitely seem to attract nit-picky control freaks & bullies.
It also sounds like a nifty way to steel poorer people’s houses from under them
We had one living across the street from us . We lived on a wooded hill and had a strip at the bottom of the hill facing her with grass. We couldn't see it from our house so who cared. She would always be complaining to us about cutting the little grass that was there. She would be using the weed whacker an edge trimmer almost every day. She would always be bragging about all the money she would always make when she sold her homes. After we moved we found out she threw her husband into an old age and built a brand new home along the Gulf coast in Alabama. A few years hurricane Katrina came and blew her new house away.

Maybe you shouldn't judge before you consider what poorer ppl might have to deal with.
These same people crying FOR the homeowners association are the same people that will cry foul when they can’t build a fence or plant a tree or remove a bush or their car gets towed…
It's almost impossible to buy a newer house without an HOA in some areas. They're usually cheaper too

Honestly HOA is often trying to buy up land in every beautiful place and I honestly hate that. My family wanted to live by a lake until we realized that annoying ass HOA bought all the land around the lake so we wouldn’t be able to live by the lake without dealing with HOA or the monthly payment. It’s honestly infuriating and I’ve been thinking that we need to really bring an end to HOA honestly. I say that because at this point it’s hard to find land by any beautiful place that isn’t owned by HOA especially in CA. I’m getting fed up with this ridiculous ass HOA bs being almost everywhere. People who care about what their neighbors houses look like are honestly control freaks. I feel bad for the men who are married to Karens honestly. Looks like a pre-fab concrete building.
This was made with ICF, Insulated Concrete forms. When it gets put together, it looks like giant styrofoam Lego pieces. They throw them together really fast, then pour concrete into the forms. The styrofoam is removed after the concrete dries. It's a very fast method of construction, resistant to natural disasters and super efficient. The hardest part is bracing the walls correctly before the concrete is poured in. Really fascinating, TBH....
Sounds alot like the federal reserve, that was during Christmas break 😊
@@karabean You are wrong in so many ways. First of all they don't remove the foam from an ICF structure after the concrete is poured. It is an integral part of the finished wall assembly with plastic ties that hold it to the structural concrete core. That is exactly what makes that system so energy efficient and would make no sense to remove it. Finish cladding is then added to the exterior and sheetrock to the interior to finish out the wall. Secondly, this is absolutely NOT an ICF structure. This structure was made with structural precast concrete panels that are welded together with steel plates. They were made off-site in a factory, shipped to the site on flat bed semi trailers, and erected with a crane. Something this size would only take a day to set once all the panels arrived.

This is the reason to buy a home with an HOA. I used to be against them. But this situation has made me all for it. If this is allowed to remain the families will move out and the entire neighborhood rented or deeply discounted. Why does a shed for his toys already in a 10 foot tall garage have to be 25 feet tall? Yes. HOAs can be super passive aggressive. Construction methodology might be something the city is interested in, but if it complies with the applicable codes and meets their regs, there's naught they can do.
Using pre-fab concrete sections is a great way to build a very strong structure very quickly. They can make them with insulation build in. They use far fewer resources and obviously have lots of labor savings. The one day it takes is more expensive bc they need a crane, but then it's mostly done.
I've worked on factories that were built like this and I watched a 200k sq-ft building go up in a few weeks. Then it took a few weeks to outfit it, install windows, doors, internal offices, internal utilities, etc. then another few weeks to install the food processing equipment and then a month to tie it all together, commission the equipment,. complete all the BS that had fallen behind, finish the offices, install the cubicles, etc. finishing touches, break rooms, locker rooms, that kind of stuff. Within a few months, it went from a snow covered grass field to a functioning yogurt plant. It was going to be 100% in another few weeks. It was already operating though. It used to take at least a year. The concrete panels cut off 8 or 9 months. Total cost was about the same because there were so many problems bc it was their first one building like that but they were able to start pumping out product so much quicker. They planned on it costing about 1/3 less eventually, once they work the kinks out (i doubt that will ever happen but whatever)

You have to celebrate what this family has done. Their HOA may prevent them from painting with colors they want, from putting up a basketball hoop or flagpole, from parking in their driveway or from parking overnight on the street, from planting certain trees or shrubs, from putting up antennas on the roof, from building a tool shed in their back yard, etc., but it could not stop them from erecting this tall concrete warehouse which pokes the HOA board in the eye.
Ah actually Federal Law says you can put any size antenna on your roof, anywhere. Build away!
And when they are forced to tear it down whose eye will be poked? If they did not get HOA approval the permits and city approval means nothing. People like them are why so many folks buy in HOA communities. The hassle is worth it to avoid living in a neighborhood where anything goes. Overgrown yards lead to rodents. Unmaintained homes cause housing values to drop. The structure they are building will make the values of the homes around it go down simply because most people do not want to live in a house where a 25 foot cement box is all you can see when you look out your window. Same with cell towers, water towers, broken down cars on the lawn, hoopties in the driveway with flat tires and rusted through roofs that have tags that expired 10 years ago. All great reasons to live in an HOA community.

If it's an HOA situation, then I'd be surprised if it was done without any sort of review process, approval, etc. However, if the HOA doesn't disallow it, then as long as it's within local building codes then "architectural style" is not always going to be to everyone's liking.
The building shown is just the framework. It's not finished. and they said it would have the same aesthetics when it was done. They need to investigate the reporting company for the potential they make this shit up and get people to say this to get a news story.

The building fits within the rules.
They probably don't have an HOA. HOA wouldn't allow such a thing. Our HOA got really picky with our color choices when it came time to paint the house. Getting approval from the city for building permits is different than HOA approval. The permits let the county increase the property taxes. This house will get leveraged off, or set aside for rental income as the original builders seek their next greatest challenge. Seen it too many times, come in turn the neighborhood upside down and whoosh, gone again.
