INGREDIENTS
PESTO 1:
2 cups fresh basil leaves, packed
1/2 cup freshly grated Romano or Parmesan-Reggiano cheese (about 2 ounces)
1/2 cup extra virgin olive oil
1/3 cup pine nuts
3 garlic cloves, minced (about 3 teaspoons)
1/4 teaspoon salt, more to taste
1/8 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper, more to taste
PESTO 2:
1 cup fresh basil leaves, packed
1 cup fresh parsley, packed
1/2 cup freshly grated Romano or Parmesan-Reggiano cheese (about 2 ounces)
1/2 cup extra virgin olive oil
1/3 cup pine nuts
1/3 cup sun dried tomatoes
3 garlic cloves, minced (about 3 teaspoons)
1/4 teaspoon salt, more to taste
1/8 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper, more to taste
PESTO 3:
2 cups fresh arugula, packed
1/2 cup freshly grated Romano or Parmesan-Reggiano cheese (about 2 ounces)
1/2 cup extra virgin olive oil
1/3 cup walnuts
3 garlic cloves, minced (about 3 teaspoons)
1/4 teaspoon salt, more to taste
1/8 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper, more to taste
1. Pulse leaves and nuts in a food processor: Place the leaves and nuts into the bowl of a food processor and pulse a several times.
2. Add the garlic and cheese: Add the garlic and Parmesan or Romano cheese and pulse several times more. Scrape down the sides of the food processor with a rubber spatula.
3. Stream in the olive oil: While the food processor is running, slowly add the olive oil in a steady small stream. Adding the olive oil slowly, while the processor is running, will help it emulsify and help keep the olive oil from separating. Occasionally stop to scrape down the sides of the food processor.
4. Stir in salt and freshly ground black pepper, add more to taste.

I like to add some fresh squeezed lemon juice & kosher salt. I also toast the nuts in a dry pan first. Brings out the natural oils. Delish!

The main flavor of all these pestos is the sharp Romano which can't be left out. Does anyone have a suggestion for a vegan substitute that will have the same sharpness and close to the same flavor as the Romano?
You could use nutritional yeast. It has a cheesy flavor
Can I add Walnut or Cashew nuts instead of pine nuts in the first recipe?
Like your style and presentation. Thank you. New sub 😉

Did you use Olive Oil or Extra Virgin Olive Oil? You need to make the distinction for viewers!!!
Definitely trying the last one with EVOO tonight!
Extra Virgin Olive Oil
Hello. Can i substitute pine nuts with ground nuts? Pine nuts in my place is very expensive. I hope you can respond. Thank youuu.
Yeah definitely, I'm not sure the exact substitution/modifications you'd need to make, but I know Morgan our founder makes an almond-based pesto for that very same reason. It was actually the inspiration for one of our pesto frozen bowl products - ruclips.net/video/gmTP45fie5U/видео.html
hello, can i know approximately how many grams for one bowl of bazil leaves?
Is arugula ruccola?
yes they are two names for the same thing.
The pine nuts is so expensive here, can i use other types of nut?
I know that Morgan, the co-founder of Primal Kitchen, has a pesto recipe using almonds which is actually what the recipe for our frozen Chicken Pesto Bowl is based off of. So yeah, you could try almonds. I should do a video on that...
Walnuts or almonds are great choices!!!
@@simonalyneenderz3247 thanks! Just made with almond today, it taste amazing!
I used almonds because that’s all I had. Worked great 👍
What if you are allergic to all nuts? What can you substitute it with? Thank you
Maybe try seeds? Like sesame seeds or sunflower seeds.
can you use the basil leaves dried herb from a jar in a store to make pesto??
NO
No that would not work.
They all look gd my choice would be the arugla ,basil is very over powering for my taste

I actually have a question totally unrelated to the recipe :) Please tell me who's picture is stuck on the fridge behind you. Is it the spiritual leader by the name of Meher baba?
Oh that's my daughter's picture she got taken at Chuck E. Cheese lol.
When u try to sound deep chill its his daughter hahahha omg meher baba

Thank you for not chattering!
I know you eat everyday. There are some channels that post three times a day. So where are your videos?
I finally find a person who cuts through the chase gets it done but you don't post.
What's up with that. Do I unsubscribe and depend on the channels that take two hours talking about their dogs while they cook a fifteen minutes meal?
Let me know
I'l like to post more frequently. unfortunately, my bandwidth is limited with also creating content for our other YT channel (ruclips.net/user/marksdailyapple), as well as social media channels, ads, etc. Be patient, I'm going to try to get back to 1 video a week for this channel.

Ok as far as bandwidth. I used to do the things I could at home with my laptop. Then go to Home Depot with my laptop and use their WiFi.
Then your other channel... I visited.
you sound like a weirdo nutjob
the man doesn't owe you anything
