Tonight (8/30/23) is our Bible study class and we are studying the Book of Acts! We're on Acts, chapter 2. The way David Guzik breaks down the verses makes it easier for me to understand! Holy Spirit, thank You for Your guidance. I have a better understanding of how the gift of the Holy Spirit is given. I also understand the speaking of tongues and what it is! Amen Amen Amen
I am an ELCA Lutheran from South Carolina. Today (September 26), Acts 2:32-33, 37-47 was the basis for our Sunday School Lesson of the Day. It was entitled "God"s People Offer Praise." There are three beloved hymns that go with this Scripture, regardless of denomination: "We Come Unto Our Fathers' God," "Sweet Hour of Prayer," and "Jesus, Friend, So Kind and Gentle." In April 1998, a friend of mine was killed in a traffic accident. Sweet Hour of Prayer was sung by the choir at his funeral.
I viewed a minister of your church. He is from Texas. His parents were visiting during that recording. I think it was recorded in 2018. I would like to view more of his teachings. Thank you.
Ah, an "oldie." I am home on vacation today. I just started to watch the movie "Forty Nights" and got this e-mail. Don't know what that means, if anything, but think I will watch this first and then finish the movie.
Thank you for pointing out the practical necessity of the Believers sharing "all things in common" in Acts 2:44-45. Might it also be an extension of the lifestyle The Twelve adopted to follow as His disciples during Jesus' time with them? (See - Matt. 4:19-20; Matt. 19:27; Luke 5:11; 18:28)
Moira, it really does seem that the most natural reading of the passage tells us that they were baptized in water. It would seem a bit strange to take it in any other way. Thanks for your question!
Hey Mailie another question is do you find it weird the Body of Christ has their sins taken away when they believe the gospel but in Acts 3:19 the same set of Jews saved in Acts 2 don't have their sins blotted out till the second coming

After reading Acts 2:38, when Peter said to them repent and be baptized, is it possible that they were not necessarily baptized in water?
