Love your videos, they got me through my OC-exam. Using your new biochemistry-videos I can now prepare for the molecularbiological-biochemical practical during the winter-term.
Terpenes are also used as an alternative to organic solvents that have relatively higher toxicity, like Xylenes. Citrisolv is probably the most common one used as an alternative solvent. It is a Terpene hydrocarbon, D-Limonene, and smells a bit like an orange flavored aerosol. But after smelling it for more than 10 minutes or so, it begins to become a rather "rich" concentrated type of odor and can make some people feel nauseated or start having a mild headache. Nevertheless, it's a much better alternative in terms of protecting the long-term health of your laboratory workers. Some procedures in clinical labs can't always get the same level of effectiveness with immunohistochemistry slide work by using D-Limonene based solvent, so o-Xylene is sometimes the only solvent that is able to work effectively for them. But it's at least worth a try to test out a D-Limonene just to see if it's feasible for using.
Thank you so much for the great video! I was struggling with my university studies but starting to understand now with your videos :) One question, what does it mean by "double bonds are almost always cis"?
Hey Professor Dave, great explanation. Have you ever done separation of terpenes for measurement. i.e. measure how much mrcyene and other terpenes are in basil? Thanks :-)
So basically, the shape of the olive oil molecule prevents it from reaching the same low-energy state as butter molecules do. Could we use this in some way, to pull that energy out of the olive oil? This is the same question as zero-point energy, but at chemical scales instead of quantum scales.
correction:saturated fatty acids have lower MP because presence of single C-C is easier to break in d video 2:20 but u said saturated fatty acids have higher MP
Add one more thing to say and it's a question did you do a video on Newton's second law of motion and if you did can you let me know if you did if you didn't can you do that please
Dave: starts talking about terpenes Me: hey that molecule looks like an isoprenoid Dave: let's talk about terpenes and terpenoids Me: /('o')\ After a mini-heart attack and checking my textbook, isoprenoids are just the umbrella term for sterols, steroids, chlorophyll, heme, etc AND terpenes. Thanks for the deep dive into this family of lipids Professor Dave! Crossing my fingers for this exam :)
it's about the geometry, trans double bonds keep the chain in a straight line so they pack better, cis double bonds create a kink and screw up the lattice, so they melt lower. so trans fats are bad because they stay solid to higher temperatures and cause blockage in blood vessels.
@Professor Dave Explains I have several question in mind. Is phospholipids and terpenes are just one? If no, why dont you include phospholipids as a distinct type of lipids same as wax? Thank you!
When any ones speak of everything, I start to doubt about their credibility simply because this is against the natural law: no one can be an all-around expert. Otherwise, there would be no such things as expertise, specialists, professions ...
do i have to understand organic chemistry better, to understand this? cause some of these words or definitions are unfamiliar to me. like those trans and cis things??? have no idea what they are.
yes you need some organic chemistry knowledge! and i did assume a lot of knowledge when making these clips. but that's ok! in the first clip of the biochemistry playlist i mention all the general chemistry and organic chemistry clips of mine that should be watched before watching the biochemistry series, it may take you a while but i highly suggest watching those "essentials" playlists first because then everything in biochemistry will make a world of sense!
+Professor Dave Explains ok great, ive watched already about 5 vids and alot of it i recognize from studying. and man i cant even express to you how much appreciation i have for you making this vids. because here in saudi Arabia the last 2 years of high school in chemistry is all about organic chemistry, and when we start school in 2 weeks, iam going to be a genius in class and that is thanks to your hard work, that makes my life easier. 💙💚💙💚 thanks man.
+Professor Dave Explains btw your going to be big on youtube, just wait. you will be the new crash course youtube channel. cant wait to see 100k subs on this channel.
Dave your explanations would be so much more fun and interesting, if you were to slow down and give us more of your personality. Please take a few hours to learn about how to effectively speak on camera. I’m begging because most of these terpene and limpid explanations are wrapped around cannabis and yours is nice plain old chemistry. But we need your personality Dave!
I'm not really interested in that. My duty is to convey information efficiently, and I despise channels that are full of wild gesticulations, bad jokes, and irrelevant tangents. Also, your opinion that I don't know how to effectively speak on camera is entirely subjective, I think it's one of my best skills.
He knows alot about science stuff.....Professor Dave Is BEST...
Hi Professor Dave,
Thank you for explaining to me today. I just wanted to say that you are the Bill Nye to the Pre-med/Medical community. We love you.
I sincerely thank you, Prof. Dave for all these educational videos. They helped me a lot.
Good to know he spares some time between Foo Fighters rehearsals to teach some biochem:D
Good one 😂🤍
The foo fighters are dope
Who have an exam and he doesn't know anything so came here to understand the materials?!
Thanks professor Dave you always save me 🤍
Keep singing that intro randomly throughout the day...
Christina Cho 😂
Exactly! LOL
prof . Dave I really like ur channel ,u deserve 1 million subscribers at ur channel ,Ur videos are very informative and easy to understand
hes almost halfway there
he's already there

Gosh my professor raps the lesson. Thank God found this.
I need a teacher as good as Dave because my teacher taught us in such a complex way even tho i aint in a ap/honors group
My science teacher shows us your videos.😊😀😁
nice! please tell everyone to subscribe :)
Professor Dave Explains I will
:)
Vanderwaal's are really weak bonds too, so that makes sense about how soaps work and interact with water.
Thank you so much for the great video! I was struggling with my university studies but starting to understand now with your videos :) One question, what does it mean by "double bonds are almost always cis"?
carbon chain extends on the same side of the double bond!
ok sir@@ProfessorDaveExplains
Cool I'll think of micelles every time I was my hand!
man's being useful from pre-med tests to first year finals
Man I love you so much ..you are saving my ass for the exam..thank you ❤❤
Prof Dave, I really appreciate your videos, and clear explanations, it really helps my understanding ... THANKS
NICE PROF...
Thanks Professor
I love your channel, and I watch it all the time for bio, and for fun.
How do you know so much Prof? U you inspire me so much.
Outstanding teacher. Can you make one about lipid metabolism. Thank you
Like today's presentation about lipids
Thank you professor❤❤
Thank you
Thanks prof. Dave .. this really helpful
Thank you professor
THANK U PROF DAVE🥺❤️
thank you so much professor Dave...you are the best
Excellent video. Thank you!
Honestly, WOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW, GREAT VIDEO
great video
Great vid!
please make a detailed video on projectile motion
i did that! check out my classical physics series.
yooooooooooooooooo my son is gonna be real happy when he finds out about this video
please one class attend on lipids metabolism? i m not understand in this topic . u must attend class on this
Thans a lot teacher
You are very helpful ❤
Great video! Could you make one about the angles in peptide bond? I really struggle to get how they work
check out my tutorial on proteins! i talk about that a little bit.
ok sir@@ProfessorDaveExplains
Hi sir. First you said unsaturated fatty acids have higher melting point then you said saturated are harder and have higher melting point 😢
Hey Professor Dave, great explanation. Have you ever done separation of terpenes for measurement. i.e. measure how much mrcyene and other terpenes are in basil? Thanks :-)
i have not!
Well explained but am still struggling with protein synthesis prof,,,
Check my tutorial on transcription and translation.
Any exercises or rather exam questions
my professor and teaching staff?
Thanks so much!
I believe. Ads prevent this from playing 😢

Melting does not involve breaking any chemical bonds, it involves disrupting the lattice in which the molecules are organized. The video is correct.
Thank you for these videos but can you please add Turkish subtitles choise?
Teşekkürler hocam
like eating at dinner time not lunch no such as lunch?
Add one more thing to say and it's a question did you do a video on Newton's second law of motion and if you did can you let me know if you did if you didn't can you do that please
check out my classical physics playlist! has all of newton's laws.
Ok thank you so much
a placement tests on file?
How alcohol from wine interacts with fatty acids?
hi
amazing !! thank u
The dislikes are people who are blind or are too busy laughing that they hit the wrong buttons.
Better to eat saturated fats over trans fats if you do have to eat it. I try and go for unsaturated though,
estrogen make the brain feel defensive with care and food intake?
could you make a video about triacylglycerol metabolism ?
at 0:08 he looks constipated
He's trying hard to stand up straight and too hard not to talk with his hands at all.
Dave: starts talking about terpenes
Me: hey that molecule looks like an isoprenoid

What are true lipids?
What is impact of cis and trans isomers on Boiling point of Fatty acids
it's about the geometry, trans double bonds keep the chain in a straight line so they pack better, cis double bonds create a kink and screw up the lattice, so they melt lower. so trans fats are bad because they stay solid to higher temperatures and cause blockage in blood vessels.
sir help us, i lov you
And one more thing, can TAGs be also called as Triglycerides???
yes, synonymous!
why and reason i feel already had big blasted effect on my wedded bliss on to upscale life?
3:00 aren't polyunsaturated lipids are oils?
At 1:00 ,from where O is coming from left side
at the store?
It is an amazing video! Where I can download the slides?
there are no slides it's a video, silly!
509pm -10pm?
I have my first ever biochemistry exam in the next 1 hour 18 mins😢
belly fat 12 back pain is from unwanted dating?
Great
What about omega-6 Fatty acids?
very hungry until of we meal plan at school and in the street?
@Professor Dave Explains I have several question in mind. Is phospholipids and terpenes are just one? If no, why dont you include phospholipids as a distinct type of lipids same as wax? Thank you!
nope those are different types of molecules! i go over phospholipids in the clip about the cell membrane.
thank you
It's the chemistry Jesus!
Very goog.
Very good
are lipids technically polymers? Is it because of the isoprene unit?
well things like steroids and fats aren't really polymers, but terpenes are!
It's not true that washing your hands with just water won't do anything. It won't do as much, but it will so something.
I love you
When any ones speak of everything, I start to doubt about their credibility simply because this is against the natural law: no one can be an all-around expert. Otherwise, there would be no such things as expertise, specialists, professions ...
I hire writers, kiddo.
I thought micelle and lisosomes are only for phospholipids
nope, it's a general term! doesn't imply a specific molecule.
is will anixiety if dont copy cat him a just a little?
what they wanted from me? do you know?
3:12 Dave's getting cancelled
do i have to understand organic chemistry better, to understand this? cause some of these words or definitions are unfamiliar to me. like those trans and cis things??? have no idea what they are.
btw i study chemistry mostly in arabic some maybe thats one of the barriers. at the end, your vids are awesome and i absolutely love these vids man.

woohoo! that's totally the goal, so spread the word to your classmates!
I thought they are macromolecules, however, they are not polymers!
she her feet and nail for school on august 28 will done again ok yes because current disbutive properties?

Thanks Jesus 😊
i had today at bus time now i am home with the family i married into?
Sir what is fatty acid
That is explained in this video you are commenting on.
