Kanye produced on blueprint 1-3, Be, Documentary, Carter 3, Dynasty album, Finding Forever, plus his own albums. 2000s was the decade that Ye solidified himself as a producer and solo artist
And in the 2020s he solidified himself as a Neo-Nazi 🐐🐐

i only discovered Man on the Moon in 2020 and it helped me a ton at the time. That album is timeless
to listen to MOTM for the first time again... man that album is AMAZING. changed hip-hop forever

lol maybe current day mid cudi is valid but yes that album is a classic

There was some Dre production, but yeah it was largely produced by Eminem unlike his previous two albums (tho he did a bit of production on those projects as well)

A best albums of each year from the 90s might be the hardest. 1992, 1994, 1996, 1998, 1999 go so hard. Some of the best years in hip-hop history.
id say
92 - the chronic
94 - illmatic/ready to die
96 - all eyez on me
im not familiar enough with the other two years but id have to take maybe aquemini and 2001
@@1ntr0spect98 I’d give 96 to it was written or reasonable doubt. Give 93 to Wu Tang
@@1ntr0spect98 98 had Aquemini, Moment of Truth, Capital Punishment, 3rd Eye Vision, it's dark and Hell Is Hot and so much more.
99 had black on Both sides, things fall apart, Soundbombing II, slim shady LP, the Dynospectrum, operation Doomsday etc.

Be - Common
Fantastic album that only grows on you overtime. Less hits than Late Registration, but so much soul and character that it will NEVER leave my rotation. Chi-City gives me goosebumps to this day, it balances between being small scale and grand at the same time. Need another Ye and Common project!
One of the best albums ever made, regardless of genre. Absolute masterpiece
Amazing album, decent 9 outta 10 imo
The subject matters revolve around love, lust, growing as a person and looking forward to the future. I think about those kids at the end track and how they were announcing what they wanted to become in life and it never fails to make me shed a tear and think back then that maybe that was me as a kid, just hoping I could be somebody.

Absolutely never miss
They only miss when asked "stop me when I name a bad album". They have no standards for bad. They let every album pass.
Love the work you boys put in for these, Man on the Moon pick made the nostalgia flow through me
This is my first time listening to your podcast. You guys are almost half my age, so it’s interesting to hear young hip hop fan perspectives.
Yeah they’re young but knowledgeable
Man really glad common is getting some love here. I started slobbin on the common knob in the end of high school and when I listened to like water for chocolate and Be I was blown away for the first time at how tight the production was and how great of a lyricist common is. He was one of my top 5 for a long time.

This video was perfect man. Great takes.
highly entertaining video, guys. do you plan on doing another one for the '90s?
Dr. Dre barely produced on The Marshall Mather LP and The Eminem Show, it was mostly the Bass Brothers or Eminem himself
I forgot Below the Heavens came out in 07 . Can't believe that album is so old now 😭 I'm happy I stumbled on this channel, these are great topics. 💯
I really enjoyed this convo!! Interesting hearing all of your perspectives and solid choices. Have either of you heard the album The Minstrel Show but the group Little Brother? It came out in 2005 and I think you guys would really fuck with it. Flawless album and it made noise when it came out. It’s considered a classic the same way Below the Heavens is a classic
I just re-listened to Madvillainy today and I gotta say, what an absolute masterpiece. From the rapping, to the production, to even the structure of it with all the short songs..It's tied with mm food for my favorite DOOM album. Also, Supervillain theme is one of the greatest beats I've ever heard and only lasts 50 seconds, what a shame.

Blu & Exile's Below the Heavens is the West Coast Illmatic. I'll die on that hill, one of the best Hip Hop albums of all time.
I agree
W take. Blu>>>>any west coast rapper
I feel like it’s college rap. Logic, Mac Miller, j coke music that I can’t listen to in my 30s.
I can listen to mobb deep, nas, Mac Dre and they have more of a less teenage angst feel.
For me 2003 goes to Revolutionary Vol. 2 by immortal technique. IMO has all-time best set of political tracks, best posse-cut, goes extremely hard against the hip-hop industry, perfect interludes with Mumia, and 'You Never Know' is to me the second best storytelling hiphop song...take a wild guess at what passes it.
It is also an extremely uniquely placed sound with all the connection to south america where Tech is from, along with the New York underground sound
I love the album too but commercial success has to be important on lists like this
@@OMAR-vk9pi Disagree. If that was the case then pretty much anything underground could be dismissed even if it's way better then mainstream albums. I think when talking about the best album of a year artistic merit should be the main thing.

For 06 it would definitely have to be donuts. In my opinion Donuts is maybe the best hip hop album ever made. Dilla’s ear for sampling is something that nobody else has or ever will have. Even producers like Madlib or even Kanye, while it is phenomenon. They don't have the one of a kind way to flip a sample in a way that both completely changes the entirety of the feel of the song being sampled, but even changing the meaning of the music in the sample to reflect the tragic state Dilla was in at the time. But also mad respect for picking Blu & Exile. More people need to check that masterpiece out.
