Hey all! The class I mention at 8:57 is now fully released! It's a behemoth: ~7 hours of lessons that fully cover the head. Breakdowns and full painting demos. Valuable info that I use when drawing & painting, both realistic and cartoony/stylized. The class is here: marcobucciartstore.com/collections/online-workshops/products/understanding-and-painting-the-head

This is like... a really good example of what an excellent tutorial video really is. Not even just the tips and tricks nestled in the content, but the why and the key felt senses, while simultaneously capitalizing on the attention and curiosity to teach. Not to mention the clear speaking and pacing choices and placement of examples, etc.

Even if you don't pretend to do a pice in this style, it seems like a fantastic technique to block in colors and values for a "traditional" render.

"Every artist will need to have different information in place before they feel comfortable moving forward: when I do a line drawing first, I need it to be accurate, but with enough left unresolved that I still have things to resolve in the painting process." I swear you're a genius. You put a very abstract concept in my mind into perfect words. You're a great teacher. You're explaining things in such a precise way. And yes I am a beginner when it comes to stylizing things, but I have been drawing for many years and doing things unconsciously and in small ways on my own!

Hey Marco, as a self-taught artist, I have been watching your videos since a long time and they have been super helpful. You are always pointing out insightful tips that help me greatly in improving my art. But I always wondered what do you do when you are not filming the videos? What is life as an artist like? Lots of drawing and painting? How do you practice, or even decide what to practice for the day? I ask this because I am not "in" art, it is just something that I am passionate about but can't really spend time on it, so I really wonder what it's like to be in a position where working with art. I kind of wanna see a "one day in my life as an artist" type video to satisfy my curiosity. And as always, thanks for these awesome videos.

I've binge-watched many of your videos! Your calm and sovereign way of teaching touches me. It makes learning fun and interesting. Instead of reinforcing dogmatic statements from standard literature you break down important concepts in your own words explaining not only the How but also the Why. This is great!

I've been experimenting and trying to work better to improve my colouring and your video has really help that it's okay to not have a clean outline and to be messy, because the colours and abstract shapes will bring it out clearer and I could back to put finishing details if I want to. While also outlining and colouring, I've never felt so free and expressive, especially when my art was done and comparing to my other stuff, it stands out so much and I've never been so proud, so I will continue to keep on practicing with this graphic style, thank ya!

Marco, I like how you're pumping out new paid tutorials, but now that you have a volume of video lessons, might I suggest you be open to a subscription plan for all your classes?
I know you have skillshare, but something affordable set up by you in the future would be great. There are great platforms like Teachable if you wanna check it out. If you have your own platform, you can bring on other artists to teach as well. I think people like Proko and Bobby Chiu have done a good job with that.
I've sampled tonnes of teachers through online/video instruction, even great ones like Richard Schmid and Craig Mullins, and you're at the top of the list amongst these guys. You have a way of explaining concepts that most teachers tend to miss. Your lessons tend to hit on every stupid question a beginner might ask but pro teachers usually tend to miss because it's so basic they assume that there's no need to explain it.
I honestly think you should go bigger with your online classes and make them accessible to as many people as possible, you have no idea how hard it is to find good art teachers outside of the USA and Europe.
    Thanks for making these lessons.

    • @marcobucci

Thanks for your suggestion! I think that is indeed the next step of growth I need to pursue with my paid lessons. I've been meaning to do it, too. I can't guarantee any kind of timing, but I'll be looking into making this happen.

approx 0:38 "Every artist... before moving forward..." You hit my problem (well, one of them!) right on the head. Better words I've not heard said. Nope, not a poet, that was unintended. Apologies! Thank you, now I know how to explain to my friends when they look and say something along the lines or "Looks fine to me..." Difficult for me to drift, I need a direction. Or perhaps direction!

I paint - have been for a few years - but i'm having such a hard time with digital painting. I have a tendency to get frustrated If I don't get something perfect right away; I assume it's trash and I don't finish which results in a lot of unfinished work. I like your videos because they make me want to keep going and get better - and more comfortable - with it.
