Basically it turns the engine into an air compressor which puts a load on the drivetrain and slows the truck down. Fuel is shut off, and the exhaust valve opens near top dead center. So instead of the engine turning the transmission, the transmission is turning the engine which is a lot of resistance. Hope that explains it 👍🏻.
Wisconsin Truck Spotting no problem! I learned about these from my trucker friends. I have driven a lot in the Smoky Mountains (NC and TN), and I noticed they rarely used their brakes on down grades. Come to find out the jake brake does all the work and keeps them from burning the regular brakes out. When I was a kid, I saw a truck going down Old Fort Mountain (6% downgrade) burn his brakes out and use a runaway ramp. Come to find out jake brakes keep stuff like that from happening especially in the mountains.
I got flicked off by some Asian Trucker from ABF Freight for doing the Horn Signal! yelled what are you doing three times then flicked me off, he was pulling over for idk why thats when i asked for horn Politely then he yelled in his truck and flicked me off, i then screamed I DONT CARE WHAT YOU THINK OF ME!!!

There really is none. I just get lucky sometimes when they hit the jakes

Top fuel liam I think it realeses air from the cylinder, slowing the truck down. I’m not really sure either
