very much agree with you Adrian. The Myvi has an agricultural ride quality to the Saga, and the NVH in terms of road noise (very evident water splashes noise from the rear wheel wells at highway speeds) makes the Saga so much more refined. For me, Saga's slightly higher maintenance and fuel costs far outweighs the benefits of the Myvi which very feels very empty in comparison.
Very happy with my ownership of Premium MC2 Saga. I don't mind the keyless entry and start button, so Premium is the best choice financially. For about 2 months now, there's no other car at this price that can be so comfortable to drive and stable. For those who love music, I bet you will be impressed because the audio quality, is superb for its price. Good balance of bass. My passengers always complain about how cold the aircond is, despite the speed being on number one hahaha but of course the temperature can be adjusted. Overall, I can see myself keeping this car for a long time
You not only made a right decision, but influenced me to get one for the company as a runaround car. Thanks.
Totally agreed with you...I'm starting to consider to buy a Saga as my future car...it's not BMW or mercedes but it's very practical and financial affordable...it's serve its purpose... transportation
Dude this is by far the best car review I have watched here in RUclips for Malaysia. The camera cuts, the B-rolls, transitions - very high production value right there man. Well done.
Not to forget about the comfort in the seats, which people overlooked on in a budget vehicle. Yes the bezza/axia is spacious compared to the saga, but have you seen their seats? So thin.. THATS WHY they r spacious. So all in all pls consider comfort>space

I bought the saga in Feb 2020 for my wife. Granted this new model has more goodies than what we bought, but I believe the engine, suspension and gearbox is the same. What I really like is this car's ride quality. I dare to say it's more pliant than our other car, a 2015 D segment Japanese sedan. My only gripe is the gearbox which doesn't hold on to the gear when driving uphill. It just wants to ease off to higher gear when you back off from the accelerator pedal. But then again, for this price bracket, there is nothing to complain. Overall, a winner from Proton.

Only in S it will hold gear. In normal D operations it will shift to higher gear almost immediately when you ease off the accelerator pedal. I believe that's how the gear change pattern is programmed to save fuel. But as I said, no complaints considering the price bracket.
it's a fantastic car my dad also own one (via rental vehicle flyt based in damansara) but in the 2022 standard variant since september 26th that car was so new 51km on it now it's 2300 kilometres in a the past 11 days we are enjoyed the car and i love it as well
I think the sound system in the new Saga is an underrated feature, it might not be boss level but for the price its quite 🔥

Saga is a good car~ Used to own a 2011 model. Eventhou already upgrade to 320i~ But I still miss it as it have lesser problem than my current car xD Good for you and congratz!
Saga is ok and features are so so. The major downside for downside is no air cond vent for feet, most of the time i use head and feet vent for my a/c, so i opt to persona
Saga, the first model from Proton and still standing as their best car to date.
IMO, it is the best car one can buy as their first car (considering price, space and size).

Adrian, I managed to get a Premium Spec as Premium S has longer waiting period. Handling indeed better than my older Almera and NVH is okay. The thing that I would have to deny is the build quality 😞. My car full of rattling sounds ( at traffic lights, while turning and even reversing). Wiper starts wabble when used and most noticeable thing is the power lag and weaknesses during going up slope.
You absolutely made the right and perfect choice period. Unfortunately most Malaysian don’t see it that way. They want style and atas-ness in which most of them living in delusion. What you did is great and hopefully it will keep the people with both feet firmly on the ground and of course Japanese car is not everything.
Former Saga FLX driver here. It was a full spec manual transmission variant. I do miss my old car, even though it doesn't have dual variable valve timing and gizmos like my current Alza AV. Fun to drive in kampung roads, more hilariously fun to drive on highways thanks to its sleeper-like personality once it reaches speeds above 110km/h once in a while. 😂👍

i can totally agree to the cold aircond is a proton signature. good quiet hvac is a must for our climate.

I have premium 2019. I wish to have auto fold side mirror. The only major issue i feel is at some point the engine is no power enough to change lane or cross the road. Need to press the speed pedal harder or switch to S mode.

Hai! I just got my saga today! But im really curious, kenapa bawah driver seat ada kind of wire yang mcm ada petak putih tu haha idk whats that for. Boleh share tak? Kadang2 rasa mcm risau, takut time kita nak move the seat, wire tu terganggu. Kereta korang pun ada ke? 😂😂
The Saga fuel consumption is also good, if you drive it reasonably in city and if you take the Saga on long distance drives it can do 20Km/L the same as bezza and other fuel efficient cars.
Thanks for the review, after watching this, I've decided to go for this instead of the honda civic!

Ak beli saga mt rm3+k sebab comfort , dashboard doortrim apa semua diam kalau langgar line kuning atau lubang. Kalau lalu jalan tidak rata, proton senyap ibarat kereta tu pakai tayar tebal ya amat. Cabin pun senyap walau 160kmh keatas radio bleh dgr. Sesuai kalau jalan jauh. Yg suka kereta senyap/attention to detail, saga la jawabnya. Beli ni takyah pasang soundproof dah. Perodua saya psg la soundproof byk mana pun memang tak dpt kejar ori proton.
Perodua yg sya mksdkan ialah myvi av 2019 saya, rm5+k, minyak hanya jimat dkt bandar. Tp dashboard habis gegar (lalu line kuning) dgn doortrim skli mcm bawa kancil. Spring standard pun keras mcm pakai sport spring kalau lalu bonggol. Waktu hujan passenger belakang bleh dgr tayar basah dgn jelas. Enjin + bunyi cabin jauh lgi bising dri proton. Myvi 80kmh ibarat saga naik 120kmh tahap bisingnya. Bunyi motor wiper pun boleh dgr. Perodua ngam kalau stakat jalan bandar
Conclusion : nearly 20k different, BUT
Tengok design exterior, iinterior & tech terasa myvi lgi mahal.
Tpi dri segi driving experience, terasa saga yg lgi mahal. (sya bukan cerita psl cornering ya). Bunyi tutup pintu pun mmg syahdu. Saga manual speaker ada 2 saja, tpi jauh lgi sedap dari myvi yg ada 4 speaker.
Bezza takyah cerita la kalau myvi pun mcmni. Mostly org beli perodua ni sebab nak jimat minyak dan terpengaruh dgn design & tech. Tpi driving experience, comfort, semua out. Bayangkan saya pakai exora 2009 1st model, selalu lalu 1 jalan ni kalau balik kampung, kalau exora smooth ja rasa mcm jalan tu rata. Tahun 2019, saya rasmi myvi saya bawa pulang kampung, waktu tu bru keluar lg , lalu d jalan yg sama, dashboard begegar. Hairan juga saya. Terasa mcm pakai sport spring. Padahal spring standard. Kalau pakai sport spring nnti mcmna ? Tak selesa langsung

This Saga is the best Saga, and all rounder package with more balance car at its price.
The latest Saga uses Aisin gearbox for those manufactured in May 2023 onwards, hope it will give better driving experiences.

Great value for money. Great handling and comfort drive. Even NVH are better than most expensive car
Because you won't get the same rattles that's available in a new car from Honda Malaysia, maybe later but less when new. HM attributes it to being "within specs". Way to go Proton and getting better year on year!
I feel my Proton Saga 2009 (top spec) is still a great daily driver.

Try redoing the tyre wheel balancing. About RM10 per wheel
The fuel average of the proton saga we get in Pakistan is 10kmpl due to the heavy weight of the car. That's very expensive.

Bought it for my 19 year old son. Useful And Economic to drive for him to travel to College.
I bought the cheapest Iriz for my son when he was in his final year. After 9 months of internship he finally got a permanent job. Now he is paying the monthly instalments.
Trade in my Myvi Lagi Best for 27k and top up with 27k for Iriz Active for my son to go to work. He traveled 40kms a day in Penang. SegB short hatchback good for cilok cilok 😆Other than mengaum when accelerator is pressed all the way, car handles superbly. Change to Michelin XM2 on day 1, corners even better 😁

Used the previous vvt model as a daily driver 90km daily, great car, but bad mileage, like really² bad especially after or 2/3 years, a friend was unlucky after 3 years the dreaded vvt gearbox issue got to his saga, so decided not to take risk and trade in. Great car though and great soundsystem

Proton should use new geely emgrand 1.5 cc engine.. 4 cylinder, aluminium head piston and use timing chain.. and have continues VVT..

Been driving my saga mc2 premium for 1 and half month
My pov so far:
1) superb handling
2) stable car when travelling 110km/h
3) more refine like what Adrian say very low NVH only noticeable wind noise when travelling 100km/h
4) spacious interior in it class
Con:
1) not fuel efficient if driving inside city
2) QC still so-so (i consider my car lucky coz in fb group fee complain their interior start hearing rattling sound)
3) saga main front light very spread not focus in one direction. If u at very dark road need to high beam.
Front light i suggested you to change.. not to led but better halogen..

@@superabcdet Premium S with the push start button and the keyless entry is very useful 100% of the time without taking out key from pocket and starting car so yeah I still would go for the Premium S anytime. If Premium had that I would've gone for that too.

To me i would say this , the saga has been perfected (well to me at least ) , its a good buy Adrian , if i were you i would be listening to eurobeat music driving this car too 3:17 hahahahahha , but to me i would think to better drive a Proton is to get a manual transmission ( thats why i ordered the standard manual for this MC2) i still and will always standby the stereotype that Proton cars a better driven in a manual transmission
Well, your sentiment is well shared. Proton is much better in manual but shame though. Manual transmission is slowly getting phases out.
Correct Jack , thats why better snatch one 1st before they totally discontinue it , and the next time if theres a new car with a manual transmission its not gonna be cheap , Like the Type R’s , suzuki switft sport and Mazda Miata , those cars are in the 100k and above

The car is good. But the main reason I don't want it because of it red colour accent in the interior! I cant live with it tho,Whyy Proton??! Not everyone like your red accent in the premium S spec. What a turn off
True, get yourself the 2019-2021 models, they have a much classier interior and alloy rims in my opinion
