    Ive got a tip, I always do the most awkward cuts first like the overhead and leave the easy cut for last because you dont want it pinching on the cut of disk when you dont have a good grip on your grinder or if you're lying on your back 👍

    Looks like solid work and a great job for some side dollars. You might want to pick up some welding blankets at the Harbor Freight so that weld spatter can't damage anything around the work site. Last thing you need is for the customer to charge you for damage to their air suspension via any blobs/spatter. Also i recommend a cheap needle scaler to make life easier in the prep/cleanup portion of the work.

    Great stuff, new subscriber here. I’ve been welding heavy mining equipment for almost 20yrs and just recently started doing side jobs on my spare time hoping it takes off soon so it can be full time. Im in Wisconsin and i think your pricing was dead on for that job and honestly you should charge whatever you feel your
    time,skills, knowledge and equipment are worth. I charge $100-$150/ph depending on job difficulty door to door plus material. I don’t haul my equipment anywhere for less than 2hrs or $200 and thats if it’s within reasonable distance. Great Job my man. 👍🏽👍🏽

    Icc bumpers are always a sloppy mess. I start out by drilling a few weep holes in the bottom. For obvious reasons. And I have a four foot piece of copper tubing on my air blower for cleaning the muck out. And yep, 6010 on anything you can see rust on. Its fun being an outdoor welder. Sun glare, rain, cold, heat and laying in the mud or on gravel. Thats why everyone wants to be a mobile welder.....

Not that you did anything wrong. You did the work you were asked to do. The driver however will probably be put out of service the next time he meets a DOT officer.

    That is called a ICC bumper. Part of it's history if I remember right was the death of the actress Jane Mansfield. Her car rear ended a trailer and her car made it up to the axles, taking the top of the car off and her head. I think it was Louisiana in the 1960,s.
    I believe it is safe to say you were not working for the sharpest pencil in the box. A sharp commercial cop will have that trailer out of service on the side of the highway as your modification allows the flaps to sail back, thus damaging many windshields.

    4.19 here in Northern Michigan for regular. Boyne city anyway. 450 minimum sounds good. Especially with it being side work. That price will likely keep tire kickers away. I myself pour concrete walls as my main. Weld as much as I can on the side. This current situation...this current administration...has changed my future plans. I now see that growing old up here ... as I collect tools and equipment for a personal shop where I can make much needed repairs .... just will not be happening. It's clear to me now that "they" have no real intention of letting us be.....the great reset....where they take over the last of valuable resources. Including our homes. See it or don't.

  • @JTwelder.
    @JTwelder. 2 года назад +3

    So most mobile contractors charge a hourly rate with a minimum (usually 4 hours) and then fuel, materials and consumables all added as separate charges. So a welder is usually $80-$150 a hour so compared to that your $450 minimum sounds bang on to me.

    I'll do almost any job big or small I dont charge a minimum to come out I just try to charge a fair price I get a lot of guys who only need like an exhaust welded I'll charge those guys 75-150 bucks depending on how much exhaust needs to go on the car even if it's only 75 bucks that's a small job where I'm not spending a lot of time fixing it I'm still making 75 an hour if it took me an hour or 35 bucks if it took me 2 usually the hardest part about a job is taking the time to get the material and do it

    Those bars have to be a certain width. It’s to stop a car from being able to get under the truck. Also, be careful welding on vehicles that’s a special insurance policy general liability won’t cover it. If you are doing any welding on anything without insurance be prepared to give up everything you own if something breaks cause you will get sued.
