any means. But they did start arriving every other month. At 25 I decided to begin taking birth control pills again to prevent pregnancy. I have been on them for about 2 years. Now my husband and I would like to try to conceive. I am worried that that may be a problem because of my history with irregular cycles. I have often thought that I could have PCOS. Although, beside irregular periods I have none of the symptoms you described in your PCOS video. I am not overweight, no acne problems,
no thinning hair, no male pattern hair growth, no family history of the disease etc. I have had my thyroid checked and it is perfectly normal. My doctor did a few other labs on me and those labs were all normal as well. I get my regular exams and pap smears and have never had issues. I never thought much about this before now because I was not trying to become pregnant. My best friend has even more irregular cycles (only 2 a year) and has had no trouble conceiving twice. Do you have any ideas
It is very common to get pregnant with long cycles, it just may take a bit longer. I would continue to try to conceive by having intercourse at least 2-3 times per week. I would not recommend ovulation predictor kits, basal body temperatures, or anything else to track the cycles. Just be patient, have sex, and you will most likely get pregnant. If you do not get pregnant on your own you may consider a visit to your doctor for blood tests and perhaps using a medication called Clomid.
I am on CD38 with no period yet! After stopping BCP in July I had a 56 day cycle. Then finally got a period in September. Now I am on CD38. I took a pregnancy test on CD33 that was negative. I did not use first morning urine though. I had irregular, long cycles prior to BCP. I only got 8-9 periods a year as opposed to 12. Every other month was the norm. I was a teen & in my early 20s though. I am very concerned.
It has been 8 days since my last active birth control pill. My husband and I would like to begin trying to get pregnant. When I first got my period at 12 years old it was very irregular. I would only get a period every 3 months. At 15 I had extremely heavy bleeding over the course of 2 days and was put on birth control pills for a few months. Afterwards my bleeding was less heavy, but my periods were still about 70 days apart. As I got into my 20's my periods became shorter, not 28 days by
Just found this site. Dr Green is amazing. He seems down to earth and I understand more about certain topics he discussed, than I have for years now. Thank you.
Yes, cycle length is variable among women and even with the same woman throughout her life. It is very likely that you will get pregnant even with long cycles.
It is common for teenagers to have irregular cycles and for them to become more regular as women age. Your story sounds fairly typical in that regards. I would guess that you will get pregnant on your own with nothing more than regular intercourse. Take a prenatal vitamin every day, have sex at least 2-3 times per week, and try not to worry. You will most likely be pregnant before the year is over.

I would like to get pregnant. Are long cycles okay? Can a woman naturally have longer cycles?
