      According to my sister's psychology professor, fortune tellers read your expression when they tell you things. They goes base off of your expression and make assumptions.

    This is so strangely scary but my father told me that he had a Korean friend who had my fathers fortune told for him in Korea. The guy knew everything. Things even like my his moms death like time and month wise also. He didn't say like your mom will die; but like you will loose a relative in 5 years or sth like that. Even knew that he was gonna have a daughter before getting married. Aaand it's true :D

    I do tarot readings! I get all kinds of reactions when people find out that I give readings(curiosity, disgust, skepticism, I even had one person ask me not to shuffle my decks in front of her). I use them as part of a religious ritual (I'm a practitioner of paganism) Because of the stigma around it, I ended up creating a form that explains everything that I do and clients must sign them to get a reading. I also use a deck that doesn't freak out clients; certain cards names are changed to lessen the impact. I've used that deck for so long that I don't use any other deck for readings.
    I am a intuition-based reader, so each reading is different depending on the reader. It's not just reading the meanings either. Depending on the deck you are using, the symbolism can vary and it's your job to interpret that for your clients. It's very rewarding when my readings have helped a client!
    That was a lot to write, so I hope it helps!

  • @ispyamoose

    I practice tarot myself, and know a little about palm reading. The thing about tarot is that your future changes based upon chance and your own decisions and actions, so no tarot reading is perfectly set in stone. The problem is that people get a reading and feel they must abide by it no matter what, and that's just not the case. When a reading is done, based upon current energies and actions, that is a likely and possible outcome, whatever that may be. You're right also, in that you either have the skill or you don't. On a side note, I wanna come to Korea and get a tarot reading because from what you described, they're stupid cheap! Here in the US on the East Coast, readings range anywhere from $50-$100. Crazy expensive!

    my mom likes to do finger print readings, where as the fingers can be as shaped as maybe a hill like shape, or a circle. I don't know what the other shapes mean but apparently you're lucky if you have a circle finger print. As well as being very artistic and creative, which is pretty weird since apparently I have a circle print on all 10 of my fingers and also major in art.

    Hey Guys!! Love all of your videos. I don't know if you've made a video on Korean movie theaters, but I'd love to see one. I have some questions: Does it look the same as North American movie theaters? Do they have popcorn? What snacks do they have? Do they show North American movies? Is it expensive? What are the seats like? Is there "assigned seating" (ex.Children and teens get the bad spots/Older people get the good spots)? How do people react if your phone rings? Do families bring their kids/babies to the movies? How popular are Korean movie theaters? If I go and the movie is in Korean, are there English subs? Do guys try to make out with girls like they do in America? What are some funny stories you have involving Korean movie theaters?

    I had aura photography done a few months ago. I was a yellow aura, which had enough vague explanations to it that most people would fit into it. The lady also had me throw stones on this board. It was all vague and part of it wasn't right at all. I think she noticed that I wasn't agreeing with everything, and made it even more vague. In general, where I am in the American Midwest, it is just for fun. I do believe there has to be someone truly gifted out there, but I still have Miss Cleo infomercials playing in my head, so I like to think of it as more of a fun thing than actual advice.

    I once went to a Palm reader in Blackpool (UK) with my friends and she pretty much said the same thing to all of us -.-
    I think people in the UK aren't that into astrology etc, just everyday superstitions like it's bad luck to walk under a ladder + signs etc. Also placing your hand on something made of wood and saying "touch wood" to cancel out bad luck or to stop negative things coming true(?) (pssst I'm guilty of doing these things HAHAHA)

      I agree, fortune tellers I think are generally looked down upon as being con artists or just something to do with your friends for a bit of a laugh at a seaside resort/circus. Although my friends did buy a set of palmistry cards which had the things to look for on them and then the explanations of what it says about your personality on the back. I found them to be pretty accurate and was fairly impressed.

  • @Anniyah
    @Anniyah 10 лет назад +6

    I live in the American Midwest and fortune telling is very uncommon, mostly used for jokes and pass-times. I do sometimes drive down the street and see signs for a fortune tellers services. The only time I've had a fortune told was from my friend who ordered Tarot cards on Amazon. It was just for fun.

    • @PongoXBongo

      I second this. I've seen a couple of fortune telling shops here and there, but they're usually right next to head shops and/or not in the best parts of town. It's not uncommon to see one at like the state fair or other such fun gathering.

    • @nannybannany
      @nannybannany 10 лет назад

      I live in New England and every time that I see a little shop set up for fortune telling or a tarot card reading it ends up going out of business within a year. I also live in a rural area (read: Vermont) so that could be a major reason as well.

    • @magpies.6370

      I live in the same section of the US but in a place where I don't see even that. I've heard about a couple of fortune tellers here and there but never actually met one. Actually, according to some people, tarot cards and the like are considered evil. I think that is ridiculous for various reasons but because of that belief, those who practice it are shunned or even outright feared.

    Loved this TL DR, it's so interesting! For me (from the Netherlands) this is a very common thing. Specially tarot card readings is a very common thing I see, (though not in the streets) my mum is very interested in shamanism and spiritual things and has been for a realy long time, so I kind of grew up with hearing/knowing about stuff like this.
    In the Netherlands you actualy have to start going to spiritual-themed fairs or exhibitions in order to find things like fortune tellers or shamans.
    It's realy cool that Koreans still have (sort of) traditional shamans, we don't have those in the Netherlands. It's probably all burned out through witchhunting in the past. There's an annual gathering in the Netherlands where 5-6 shamans from different countries (Mexico, Siberia, Malaysia, (Native) North America a.o.) give short teachings and workshops. There is a lot of interest for these things in the Netherlands. If anyone is interested in shamanism or just into reading a good book I can recommend: Entering the Circle by Olga Kharitidi or Dutch version: Het Pad naar de Sjamaan.

    I'm from Vancouver Island in BC (Canada's west coast hippie central) and here fortune telling is mostly palm reading but 100% for hippies, gullibles, and teens on a lark. They're usually set up in temporary stalls in malls or at craft fairs. You can also get Tarot card readings but people mostly do it for themselves or close friends only because there's a superstition that your cards absorb the energy of whomever is having their fortune told so they get cloudy or less accurate or something. No one other than the owner is supposed to touch the cards for the same reason. I once had my palm read when I was a teenager and she told me that I was a little bit psychic and that I could be a palm reader with training. I knew she was going to say that.

    The most important thing about face reading (gwansang) is that it is not physical features but a person's inner thoughts that shows up through your face and attitude/demeanor that influences people who see it that will eventually influence/determine your fate. For example, if you look/behave like being scared people will not respect you and you may become fated to find a person who will bully you. Face reading is an interesting mixture of ancient religion/philosophy and psychology/statistics of human behavior.

    I read your blog post and I was really intrigued by the whole shaman thing. I watched kdrama a few months ago (The Moon That Embraces the Sun) and shamans had quite an important part in the whole drama but I thought they were made up because it all seemed pretty unreal but now I'm guessing that they just over exaggerated it all a bit for the drama. The whole video was super interesting, I love fortune telling!

    In the middle east we have 3 main types of Fortune telling :
    - coffee cups which is the most popular ! You are offered a cup of coffee , first you intend to know about a specific thing without saying it out loud , you drink it , then you turn the cup upside down and leave it for 5 mins , arabic/Turkish coffee is thick so when you turn the cup upside down the left overs will leak on the inside of the cup creating patterns that will give you answers
    -another type is pebbles , I have no idea how they do it ! And finally hand reading
    You can also learn about how a near future event will turn out with a specific card game (played alone) , if you manage to open all the cards the event will turn out positive , if not you should give up on it

    It's actually ironic that this was posted on the 13th as that's my birthday, aaand, a year before this video, I had my tarot cards read for free at this restaurant I ended up at with my friends for celebratory dinner. Super spontaneous, SO RANDOM. But it was shocking. He did a 9(?) card reading about my life as a whole, and the things that he picked up were incredibly accurate to my life at the time. Even down to something he said about the place I'm living not being suitable to my character, which is something that had been very heavy on my mind at the time. He also then pulled me back for another reading based on the time I was born, and he hit it on the nail a second time. This guy was a very ordinary person as well, but everything he said really kind of grounded me in my decisions as a human. My friend got a reading right after I did, and she let me sit in on it (she sat in on mine), and we both said that we got chills listening to each other's readings as the man vaguely brought up things that nobody outside of our inner circle would know about or have any instinct on without asking. It was incredible.
    I picked up a deck of tarot cards for myself after that, and sometimes I pull a set for a reading by myself. My own readings are never anything special, but it helps me make decisions sometimes, and focus my energy a little bit on issues. Even if it's only because I took the time to make it an important, stand-out issue for myself.
    (Aside from that, I went to a "psychic" when I was on vacation in Miami because one of our friends wanted to, and it was just okay. Nothing super special. But I'm much more weary of psychics and I feel like even if they are great to one person, they really have to be in tune with your aura in the moment in order to tell you anything. Out of legit psychics, I don't think a lot of them have the ability to just get in tune with someone like that at the snap of your fingers. And I obviously believe it's more of an aura, vibe reading situation than someone looking into the future. Similar to reading someone's face, but with energies instead, and energies are less permanent obviously)

That's what she said when I said I wanted to have my palm read and that made me shut up about it… Maybe she said it to keep me quiet but it really scared me. I'm from the Philippines. :)

    When I was in Taiwan, there was this thing where you write down your birthday and time of birth and they basically can determine everything about you from, past, present, to future, including personality, strengths, weaknesses, types of relationships, work, etc. It was weird because they were even able to tell me the exact age when I got into an accident when I was little and how that affected the relationships I had with other people in my life.

    I'm from Hamilton, so my experience with fortune tellers is the typical "sketchy house/building with a cheap sign outside" that you guys are probably familiar with being from Toronto, but I've still always wanted to go to one! If I ever get to go to South Korea, I'll definitely be sure to go get my fortune read somewhere, it's on my bucket list! :)

    When I was visiting in Seoul, I had my fortune read by a saju lady. She asked for my birth date and time and then used them to look up some stuff in these books. She said that if I didn't get married in 2013 than I should get married after age 30. She also said my future husband would be involved in finance and that I would meet him at some sort of organization. It was pretty fun and I think about her predictions every once in a while.

    I wanted to know about eating disorders and dieting in Korea. My friend from Hong Kong told me that when she visited family there she could hear girls purging in public bathrooms like it was nothing. I might be going to Korea next year and want to know everything I can about this since I'm currently a year into my recovery from a 5 year eating disorder. I would really hate to be triggered badly while being there after I worked hard to get where I am now. Thank you ♡♡♡

I know Martina loves Coffee Prince, but I'm sure you guys have watched tons more other korean dramas (a.k.a. the Heirs, My love of the Star, etc....). Also, like do you guys watch entertainment shows like RunningMan, or like Roommate? Can you guys plzzzzz do a TLDR on this, it would mean a lot to me. Thnks, luv you guys :)! Fighting!!!

It was really interesting to watch. He told her what her financial situation was going to be like, how many kids she was going to have, etc.

    Here in Dallas , TX the first Saturday of every month they hold a psyhic fare. Mediums, taro card readers, etc all come together to read your furture, or past or whatever, in a hotel ballroom. You go up to a black board pick a name , time, pay and get your fourtune read. So if you are in the DFW area of North Texas, on the first weekened of the month, there you go, one stop shopping. Enjoy.

    Here in America there's still a lot of skepticism since the fact that a lot of people can trick you for your money. I don't know if you have heard of the show Long Island Medium, but Teresa is a Medium, and she does readings to heal the broken soul. I myself can read into people's past lives, but I get dizziness and blurred vision if I do it for too long (x.x)

    Hey Simon and Martina!
    You guys have made a ton of videos about kpop idols and how hard their jobs are. But I've always wondered about their back up dancers, do they also have to go through the same stress and hardship compared to the singers? Do back up dancers have to go through intense auditions and years of training before they can perform? I know they play silent role in the kpop industry but I bet they go through some abuse too.
    I think this would a great idea for a future tl;dr!

    Well I'm from turkey and there are also palm reading and also Turkish coffee. You drink Turkish coffee , turn the cup down on the coffee plate and wait till it's getting cold. After that u take it and look in cup and the left over coffee things tell your future. My mom she has a friend and she did this and everything she said was true.

    I'm from Manitoba, Canada and I've had my fortune told here. It's mostly Tarot Cards, but we also have Egyptian Sand and some kind of stone reading. The Tarot Cards though, don't only tell you about the near future, but also about yourself. Like if you have a leader personality and stuff like that. It tells you your element(s) and if animals like you and blah blah blah.

    I live in Zagre, Croatia, and those kind of things basically don't exist here. But there is sometimes some of creepy old ladies that you sometimes pass by without even a glance at their way and as you pass by they just tell you something like 'there is a dark force surrounding you' which is too creepy to bare with, I know from several personal experiences, and other people I know have encountered it as well. What's even creepier is that they mostly turn out to be true.
    Other then that, a lot of people do card reading as a personal hobby so they teach their friends to do it too sometimes, but that's about it.

    In from MI, USA. Here, it's just kind of a thing. Not everyone does it, but it's not frowned upon by most. It just exists, and most people believe that it's not a true thing. Myself, I think it can be real, but obviously there are false readers out there who are only in it for the money. Never have I paid for a reading to be done, but, one night (while I was loopy on pain meds) at work, a gentleman came in to give me a reading. It was a face and a palm reading. He told me that I would one day be successful, but it was up to me to pull the opportunities that pass my way together to make it happen. He also told me that my love life would be solid, and I would live long with a large family. He came in again the next night to share with me that I would also lose a good chunk of my current family members, but that loss would propel me into the position I needed to be in in order to achieve my goals. Then, I never saw him again. From that point until now (two years), I'm being recognized for my video work, and called upon for projects. I've gotten a raise at work with the increased productivity levels. But, I've lost two of my Aunts, my Uncle divorced his wife and lost the parental right of both children, as well as my Grandmother and Grandfather have stopped talking to me. As for the growing family: my brother married a beautiful woman that has two sisters and a very family orientated mother, my 2-month strong boyfriend has me over regularly and has me join in family activities, it's like I'm part of his family as well. Overall, his reading seemed accurate, but at the same time it wasn't too far out.

    alright i just stumbled across this video and i want to highlight something important. These "readings" do have some sort of accuracy though im not talking about the palm reading part, but having a specific number or some sort (along the kinds of saju) is pretty accurate. Based on my experience, my grandfather loves to visit these places and most of the time, they were able to predict specific dates of when my cousin would be born, jobs and money, etc. Though i know there might be a chance it is purely coincidence, but these readings were spot on that we feel its almost impossible for it to be a coincidence.

    Where I am in the US, fortune telling is looked down on. I am lucky to be in an area with a few occult and wiccan shops that offer fortune telling services; palm reading, tarot spreads and past life regressions. The prices are pretty harsh through; a tarot reading is $40 + tax. It shows the low demand for these services. :(
    Fun story; I had my tarot read a few years ago (first time and my BFF treated me). She had several decks and asked me to pick whichever I felt drawn to. I selected one and as she was shuffling I said "That was your first tarot deck, right?" She froze and looked at me shocked before confirming that yes, it was her first tarot deck. Since I was little I've always been pretty intuitive so the occult is almost second-nature and I kind of mentioned it without thinking. ^^;
    I myself can do playing card spread, Russian fortune telling cards and coffee readings. However, I only do readings and such for others. I had a friend who ran an antique shop who was very gifted in the occult. She somewhat unofficially mentored me and the first thing she told me was to never do your own reading; you will look into it and see what you want to see instead of what you need to know. She's been at rest for 5 years now... I miss her. She was like a second mother. Her nephew and I keep in contact though.
    I'd love to officially have a past life regression session, but they're around $150 for an hour!@-@ Overall, it available in my area but frowned upon and is expensive due to low demand.

    When I was young I had actual psychic powers that didn't need any tarot cards or numbers or astrology. My mom often tells me that I predicted random events like my grandma's death, my twin brothers, and my aunt's pregancy. I was a weirdly spiritual child and would often speak of playing with Marie's child (aka Jesus). Even recently I had a nightmare that my mom was really sick and it upset me so much (that after wrestling with myself abt how fucking weird it would sound) I told her to go to the doctor's and get herself checked even specifying her "chest area". Idk if she actually did it but a few months later they found a tumor on her breast (which they surgically removed and now she's fine thank God). Totally gave me goosebumps when I remembered my dream. Anyway for this reason I do sorta believe in mediums bc I kinda am one myself lol. I think mediums are just people that for some reason or another are born with or have harnessed an increased intuition. All humans have this natural intuition but it is either underdeveloped or we are taught early on to reject it. If I ever meet a medium that can guess my weird past about me than I will consider them the real thing. I'm not overly concerned about knowing my future but it would be neat to talk to someone about how I should deal with this little "gift" of mine. (The ultimate irony here being I actually dont like being told my future bc i feel it takes the sense of control away from you but I somehow have the random ability to know it ha.)

    • @Frainist99
      @Frainist99 10 лет назад

      That's cool and scary. 2 of my mum's friend ( they r a married couple ) can also predict these kind of things and they are shamans too so when I told my friend about them they usually get freaked out. But I've been listening to these types of things since young so I can actually understand how you feel, but when you dream do the events happen like a few week or months later? Cuz I had a dream when I was 4 and it actually happen to me when I was 13.

    • @MesRevesEnRose
      @MesRevesEnRose 10 лет назад

      Frainist99 The dream about my mom happened months before they discovered the tumour. But as a young kid, I just "knew" things. I didn't dream about it. Like I would just randomly say "thank you, Jesus for Auntie's child" during prayer before my Aunt even knew she was pregnant. Yeahhh.... I was weird.

    • @Frainist99
      @Frainist99 10 лет назад

      MesRevesEnRose ohh.Thx for replying,but do you still like know now,like know wat will happen or not?

    • @MesRevesEnRose
      @MesRevesEnRose 10 лет назад

      Not as much. The latest thing was the dream about my mom (a few months ago) and even that surprised me bc something like that hadn't happened in years. As I grew older as a kid, I realized the things I said/saw weren't normal so I grew scared of it and prayed hard that they'd go away. That's one reason I think it went away. Also maybe my mind isn't as pure and I learned to stifle my instincts. That's why I said sometimes we as humans have a natural ability as children but as we grow older we reject it bc we are thought it's illogical.

    Some people change their names to change their fortune as well. My mom told me that the more you get your face/palm read or go saju (if translate from chinese: "count life" lol), your life will actually get worse. What's important is actually the birthday and time. It will set your fate. For the marriage part, we call it the "eight word" in chinese. The chinese character for eight has 2 strokes. One represents the male, another represents the female. If their "eight word" don't match, it means they are not fated to be (you can't write the character with only 1 stroke. To express it in another way, it's like writing a word with different font for each letter). I don't believe in such stuff but it's kinda like a chinese tradition.
