I watch your channel because my wife won't let me throw this much money and time into something that is simultaneously so awesome and so pointless. I love it so much!
Get divorce
Haha thanks for that!
Watching your videos is a truly relaxing experience, non of that 'shouty US' style or blaring music, thanks. And another beautiful build to boot.
Cheers Paul!
What a beauty of bicycle! I'd like to make a full service on one of this... and maybe upgrade the rear suspension with an air.
The next video i'll watch is the one on the 752. Thanks!
Outstanding! Nice to see such a clean proflex in HD lol. Even if it’s missing the Girvin stem, still amazing, great job
Glorious. The paint and decal work are especially worthy of respect, and my favourite part has to be the pressing of the pivot bushings. I haven't had time to watch restoration films for ages, let alone make any, and the half-finished projects in my workshop are piling up. This has inspired me to get back on it.
Thanks! Look forward to seeing what you've got in store. That hate bike looks.... like a lot of work!
Great video! I remember how ProFlex was the hot bike in the 90’s. I fulfilled a dream and just resto-modded a ProFlex Beast. Other than the proprietary cable stops, the build and the ride is absolutely fantastic. That’s a great looking bike, especially with the sexy black LX groupset. Definitely a bike to be proud of.
Thanks! Appreciate the kind words.
OMG...that crazy brake pivot thing. How to make cantilevers more complicated. Awesome and ty!
Haha yeah it's a little wacky. Takes a bit of power away from the canti's too I believe.
Yeah where did you even find that pivot thing?! It looks like such a niche part.
cracking job - the paint is lovely
don't know if you've seen his videos, but Buff's Vintage Bikes is well worth a watch. He's based in S Africa and does some incredible restoration work
Buff is fantastic, second that recommendation
Thanks!
beautiful job, I like the use of good quality parts and the attention to details.
Thanks Bruce.
perfect resto! truly a special bike. love the red on the frame!
Thanks!
Nice retro bike bought back to life . Worth the wait.
Thanks Nick!
Square taper bbˋs shouldn't be greased. The LX cranks won't have a problem, they are very tough. But if you use RaceFace or other "boutique" Aluminium cranks of that era, you will overtighten them and they might widen or crack at the taper. The reason is, that the same torque will make the cranks glide onto the bb axle further if grease is used.
Great job on the rest if the bike. Looks really neat. And the paint job looks very good!
Yeah I know. I've never greased them before. BUT. I've had a nightmare with M560 cranks specifically "seizing" on to the axle and developing weak extractor threads. A bit of grease won't hurt them.
Very nice dude. Nice to see you back too !. I managed to rebuild that carbon wheel I messaged you about. Thanks for replying !. I will do a video on it when it's done.
Thanks bud! Glad that worked out for you.
que restauración tan increíble, preservar joyas del mtb es un trabajo muy bello, y pensar que las gravel van justo en esta direccion "reinventado" el mtb
Nice to see this completed!
Thanks. Hope it was worth the wait!
Nice paint patience pays off😎
Definitely did this time. It looks so clean and fresh now!
I've been using a ridge I got as a gift for over two years now. Took me awhile to but I'm to the point where I'm sure I'll never go back to a "normal" wallet.
They definitely keep the clutter down! I like that about them.
Super cool bike and perfect restoration. Take it for a spin and please make a video of the elastomer suspenssion working. Pretty curious about it.
Thanks! I actually filmed the 752 I cleaned up last month yesterday. Close ups of the front and rear suspension.
Turned out very nice. Interesting design.
Thanks!
NIce work. I am curious about the rear brake. It's the first time I see that system.... (No, I don't mean the cantilever brakes :) )
Yeah it’s a weird system huh? They used that pivot as a way of getting round the seat tube.
Lovely paint job.
Cheers John!
Ive been waiting for like a year for this
Hope it was worth the wait.
@15:41 Nice edit
Thanks!
Another great build!
Thanks!
looks like you didn't use any sort of protection for the front derailleur, where it clamps onto the frame. I'm building up a bike now and was thinking on if I want to try to protect it or not. Would be interested in your thoughts.
Just to protect the paint from the clamp? I guess you could but some of those clamp tolerances are tight and using a rubber strip or something might mean you have to step up to the next band size maybe.
@@MonkeyShred yeah I’ve never actually done it myself but seen it done in videos occasionally
I would really love to know how long those elastomers will last. I recently did a bike build and the elastomers just disintegrated in my hands. The bike (at least for now) looks amazing! Especially good job on the paintwork.
They will be good for 5 to 10 Years, depending on the climate and how much sun and frost they are exposed to.
Ah damn. Sounds like the elastomer I had on the Vector I used for my 853. Crumbled away and then melted in the sun on my drive.
Ace job 👌
17:35 So THAT’S why wide-range 1x-chain ring drive trains were developed 🤔
Because on this bike the swing arm obstructs the limit screws?
Thanks for sharing. ...👍
Thanks for watching!
great build love it apart from the frickin actual sticker were they that bad ? are they from retro decals ?
The original decals? No they weren’t that bad but the paint was. The chainstay decals were pretty bad though. Yup. Decals from Retrodecals.
cant find the ;link to the strip-down of the bike? edit... found it 😀
Hopefully that's helped show the transformation more!
@@MonkeyShred yeah, nice job
how much does that rear isolator squish? Can you feel it while riding?
Without filming it.... I couldn't say. It's a "firm" elastomer. I did film the workings of the 752 the other day though and should be releasing that next week. I can't say I felt the rear but it was definitely moving. Especially when pedaling.
I worked at a bike shop in Toronto, called Duke's Cycle. We sold those pro flex bikes, one of our young racers used one in the then-arising sport of mountain bike racing, which Duke's got into in 1986, after being involved in BMX.
I always wanted to try a pro flex bike.
I loved the approach to the suspension. I have no idea what the plusses or minuses would be. Maybe, softer descents on downhill single track?
Loss of energy while climbing?
Well I've done a bit of filming with one of my other Proflex to show the elastomers in action so once I review that, I guess we can work that out!
Wow thats a fantastic job, gotta love an old proflex 👍👌👌….. do you have a link for retro decals
Cheers buddy
Thanks! RetroDecals (Gil) doesn't have a specific site that I know of but he's on Facebook & Instagram. This link might work: facebook.com/retrodecals/
@@MonkeyShred perfect thank you 👌👍
Team Aluminum - Tiki 💯
Love the Tiki!
Is it a real Proflex? Cos I saw Cannondale on the frame, I have a Proflex Enduro 788 all original Great bike
Very smart indeed. Big tickle to Torvi.
Thanks!
Can you please tell me what piece that is that you’re using on the rear cantilever post.
It's a pivot/cable guide. It doesn't relaly have a specific name because it's just for Proflex frames.
Does anyone have tips for proflex 552
tovi cut, instant fan :)
I've got to at least try to show her properly supervising ;)
Hi I’m going to build a 1991 off-road Proflex 950 could you tell me where I can get the rear suspension elastomers from please?
Hi Mark I have the same question. Any luck finding them?
They should pop up if you Google them. I think the site is called Suspension Fork Parts
Fart noise! I have a 750 one!
Fart noise?
@@MonkeyShred Yeah. I have one with 700c wheels.
@@MonkeyShred yeah, come closer
