It's been the Countach for me since I was in my teens..will never change
As I kid I preferred the Countach, as a grownup I now prefer the Testarossa.
When I was a little kid, riding on a long trip in the early 90's, I saw a red Testarosa pass us quickly, with a 75 year old man driving it, with the windows down and a huge smile on his face. It was that moment when I realized being an old person wasn't so bad.
You didn't see the chick in the passengers seat because her head was in his lap - that was why he was so happy.
Countach for me. So gorgeous. Timeless
Agreed. Still looks like a supercar.
Same... love both, but the Countach will always be my fav - and, yes, it still looks awesome!
Absolutely
쿤타치 꼬졌어. 뒤가 안 보임.
@@mjoscifi And sounds awesome.
The first time I saw a Countach parked up I didn't even know what it was. A massive crowd had formed around it. The design was just crazy. I don't think any other car design will ever have the same impact that the Countach did.
I remember seeing a Countach in a showroom in Henley on Thames when I was a child. It was jaw dropping then and still is now.
It's difficult to compare. The Testarossa is a timeless beauty, a work of art. The Countach - well, it's a spaceship. A star destroyer, to be precise. I love both. For everyday use, I would take the Testarossa though.
I fell in love with the Testarossa playing OutRun in 1987.
I love the design as well….but I would say that one might just cry in pain after a couple of days of this car being your daily. I had one borrowed for a short while…and the way your left leg is wedged towards the middle..to operate the clutch literally almost put my hip out of joint. I’m 6’1 210 lbs…and believe me…this could have been a medieval torture device for someone my size. To be fair, in early 1990’s I bought a 1991 SL500 in Houston and drove it to Seattle…and by the second day..when getting gas..people would literally see me crawling out of the car on all fours…the seats were truly designed to cripple if you went farther than getting a Starbucks in your neighborhood. So no car is perfect..no matter how beautiful.
Same, for everyday use, I would take the Testarossa
911.
The Pestarotter a timeless work of art?!! Are you out of your tiny mind? If you have eyes and a heart the Countach wins HANDS DOWN.
The two ultimate dream cars of every 80s kid brought together in a single video. Awesome.
Mine too
I had the posters too brother ✌️
for me the ultimate dream cars of the 80:s were the 959 and the F40
And the 911 turbo with whale fin
I respected the Testerosa, but I love reading the comments to realize that many others like me just LOVED the crap out the Countach design. The car was just plain AWESOME!
Testarossa* (rossa, Ital. = red)
I once walked passed a parked Countach on a mild evening in the city. It was a magical moment, like seeing an art exhibit on another planet. This is not only a car, it is sculpture at the highest level. Its beauty was exhilarating, and I'm not even that much into cars at all.
@@einundsiebenziger5488testarossa= redhead in Italian
The countach had a design that is even today ahead of the time...
This guy read my mind perfectly. I expected his results in the end and wasn't disappointed. Testarossa was always my favorite Italian sports car.
I own both models. A 1986 Testarossa and a 1989 Annv Countach and I 100% agree with you. The Countach is so hard to drive that I end up driving my TR a lot more but if I want to own a local car show or a Cars and Coffee I take the Countach!
Good to know that I had the right conclusion. Two epic cars for sure.
Doug - you find yours that hard to drive? I've practically dailied mine since Monterey, and Jess commented that of all my cars that's the one she falls asleep in the most because it's so comfortable. She slept most of the way back from Half Moon Bay.
Not hard to drive at all. Your car must need some love!
Blah blah blah
Must be nice 😮
The Countach wasn't even challenged until the F40 showed up. I don't think any car really came close for more than a decade, which is impressive. It just looks so cool and was so ahead of it's time. I still rate it as my favorite.
ruclips.net/video/UKm-wcxkl5U/видео.html What about this?
The Ferrari f40 and Porsche 959 in the mid 80s when they came out were and are considered to be the first ever SUPER sports cars. I've heard that although both were awesomely-fast (barely exceeding 200 mph - the first ever street-legal cars to) they, like most extreme sports cars, had 'bone-jarring' rides, predictably and not surprisingly. Supposedly both were great 'track cars' too...
Comparing an F40 to a countach is like comparing a turd to the Mona lisa. The f40 is one of the greatest cars ever made. The countach was horrible to drive and slow. I also love the countach as it's an icon and is really one of the coolest cars ever. However it's a shit car. Comparing it to the likes of f40 is a joke.
@@DexxonGamer77 i gotta agree with you. The F40 is not only a mechanical marvel, its a work of art. It reminds me of the Tinker Hatfield era Jordans. Just super Iconic 80s/90s designs
@@DexxonGamer77 a turd has the same value as that lame ass painting. what youre saying is just an opinion, not fact. f40 looks cool but compared to the F1 the f40 is a shit box and loses in every single department imaginable.
Take any high end super cars from the 1980's to the present day and you will ALWAYS get more looks with the Countach. It's just a badass looking piece of machinery.
11:46 "You can't drive a continent in this car"
Canonball Run: Hold my rear wing.
It has always been the Countach for me, even today. The design was just so far ahead of its time, even now it looks contemporary. Strictly speaking, if my memory serves me right, the Testarossa wasn't the Countach's direct competitor, it was in fact the 512 BB. Whether it was the 512 BB or the Testarossa, I always saw Lamborghini as being way ahead in its forwardness in design.
Truth is, the Countach was head to head with the BB512... Then, it slid to the 2nd generation Testarossa,
While the Ferrari slid to the Diablo when it became the 512 TR...
365BB and 512BB were supercars
the Testarossa was relegated to sports cars category
well the testarossa was more of a GT, more comfortable way easier to drive than the countach.
Yeah but not engineering
@@pescetv8371 May be not back then. But, the modern day Lamborghini is perfectly fine.
As we (as young boys in the 70s) saw the Countach first, we were blown away. Till today for me it is the most futuristic looking car of all times. The Ferrari is much more traditional. Beautiful are both.
The Countach is better suited fer the track, and the Testarossa is much better on the streets...
Remember the vector w8 poster? Even more futuristic.
Tada jd i Amerika bila Amerika
The testarossa is a traditionally way better looking car but the countach is a much cooler looking car.
I believe that the interior of the testarosa and such improved over subsequent years. I saw another video of that model elsewhere; the gear shift looked a lot different and the driver commented as to how easy it was to shift and drive. I hear your experience and wondered why, but I can see why. Thanks for the nostalgia.
I’m gonna have to go with the Countach, it’s just so outrageous and insane. Could you imagine being in the ‘70s when this thing came out? Unbelievable. Interesting decision for me because I have always preferred the Ferrari brand overall.
The Countach styling still jumps out. Uniquely ballsy. I prefer the first version with no flares.
@@liamgross7217 Yes I agree with you, the original periscope Countach’s were gorgeous.
@@liamgross7217 The Lp400
I would choose the Countach
Hey, lotsa GREAT things came outta the 70's, so its NO suprise at all!
The Countach was in a league of its own. Nothing like we'd ever seen before so much that I had a problem remembering all the complex details of its design back in '87. Maybe it's personal bias but the Countach was love at first sight.
The Countach *was* a SpaceShip in the 80's for sure. Not a daily driver for sure either.
I grew up in the 80's, so I grew up with both these cars...it was a great time, they are just awesome machines to behold!
If there had been an internet in 1985, the Countach QV would have broken it into a million pieces. My Countach poster was two metres long, came from California and was the showpiece of my bedroom as a teenager. I also had Porsche 959, Ferrari Daytona Spider and Koenig Competition Evolution posters. Only the best!
I have driven both. The redhead is much easier to drive and therefore faster in the real world, but the Countach is the real super car.
Funny story about the Miami vice Testarossa. Jay Leno said he was talking to Michael Mann, (Miami Vice creator) & Mann told Jay that the 1st Testarossa they used was a fake because the show was low budget. Somehow Enzo Ferrari found out about the show & found out that Mann was using a fake Ferrari. Mann said Enzo called him & said "why aren't u using a real Ferrari? Why the fake one?"
Mann replied that it made sense because it looked like a Ferrari, but was 1/4 the price. "Plus who cares. The viewer can't tell the difference & it's still been a great boost for your company Enzo, right?"
Enzo replied, "I know your viewer can't tell the difference & yes it's been a great advertisement for all of us here at Ferrari motors, but the problem is I can it's a fake & the idea of anyone using a fake Ferrari is killing me. Look. I'll give u a real Testarossa to use on your show. Just stop using that fake one"
Mann (very surprised but thrilled) agreed & next day Mann told his writers & other staff that on the next Miami vice episode, they HAVE to blow up the fake Ferrari. He told them to start coming up with ideas as to how we can blow up the car for the next episode"
On the next episode the car was blown up.
And he never told them why he wanted the car blown up until Enzo shipped the new Testarossa a few days later & Mann drove it onto the film set while the crew & actors were shooting the very next Miami Vice episode.
@@flaccidego4291 They never used a fake Testarossa. The original Miami Vice Ferrari was a Daytona Spyder kit car.

One looks like a car, one doesn't. I want the one that looks otherworldly.
The Countach still looks insane in 2023. And he didn’t even talk about those doors!!!
I don't care what came before, what came after, or what will ever come, the Countach is the god of super cars. It's a privilege to even look at it.
Fun fact: Jay Leno drove his Countach in the 80's as a everyday car, for years. . .😎👌💯
Amazing
Is that fun?
He stated the secret is letting it warm up to operating temperature and it's actually pretty reliable. He covers it on his channel.
Bet that was comfortable 🤠😂
I remember reading Road and Track Magazine during the 80's and drooling over both of these cars. I always liked the aesthetics of both, but preferred the Testarossa. I've never driven either, but, for those interested, watch Jay Leno's review of his Testarossa. He drove one daily for years and gives a pretty honest assessment of it. If I recall correctly, he said he liked it, but, like this reviewer, said there are better driving cars. Leno described driving the Countach at high speeds as like driving a brick because the aerodynamics aren't particularly good despite it looking like its aerodynamics should be efficient and stable. Actually, I always preferred the Porsche 911 and its variants to both of these cars (particularly the 930 Turbo), and would get one today, if I could afford it - which I can't. When I was 15 I figured I was going to live in a mansion, drive a 930 Turbo and date a series of supermodels until I died. I'm still waiting for that whole process to begin.
I read the same magazines. I also would have the 911. Or one of the 3 on your list, but alas.....
Fun fact;
In the late '80s Lamborghini built one Countach as a carbon fibre monocoque, rather than a steel spaceframe chassis. It did the rounds of the car magazines at the time.
And then they crashed it. Deliberately, to see how a carbon fibre structure would behave in an accident.
At that time no manufacturer was producing carbon fibre chassis road cars, it had only become routine in F1 a few years earlier.
Loved this video. I have a turbo Esprit from 1985 which although not in the same league as these beauties does share some of the things from this era. Low and wedgie the lotus steering heavy at slow speeds, visibility from the rear through the slats is difficult. Worse in the dark as being so low everyone's headlights from behind are on eye level and going over any bump in the road means they get cutout but the slats so its like they are constantly flashing you from behind.
I remember right after the Cannonball Run movie came out, Road & Track did a special feature comparing the Countach and the Ferrari Boxer. They concluded that the Lambo was not comfortable, got bad gas mileage and was impractical for driving to work. I remember thinking, “….WHO CARES???” 😂
Times were so much more fun back then. I'd go to the LA car show in awe of these supercars.
@@ExMachina70 The Countach was the star at our local little car show that was basically done by the local car dealers. The show ran from Friday to Sunday. Friday afternoon a rich dude showed up, put a pile of money on the table and said "I am taking the Countach with me right now".
The remainder of the show there was no star any more ...
Yer, I watched something similar about 4 years ago. I have always been a Ferrari person and when I first saw the Countach, sure I was impressed but I just got the impression they were going more for the street appeal. Turns out after all these years, that's pretty much what it came down to. The Testarossa was a more refined sports car.
8 miles to the gallon. Worth it.
As if anyone who owns a Countach would have a day job.
I'd take Countach anyday. Just because it looks like it came from another planet. I wish all cars were designed like that
The Countach is a lot more money so I guess a lot of people agree with you. They are also rarer which has helped used values.
nice choices. All in my pantheon of most beautiful cars, but the Jaguar e-type (XK-E) roadster is still my no.1.
Well spoken.
I took my just-purchased 348TS out for an evening drive on quiet roads a few weeks back and this exact Testarossa TES7Y - I assume piloted by Richard - out of nowhere appeared next to us. Felt like being visited by a unicorn, drove in formation for some time. Very cool memory to begin owning such a cool car. One thing that I think people often forget to mention about cars is how different they can look at night, and a Testarossa looks incredible, especially one as pristine as this.
As a kid in the `80 , I loved both cars, I spend hours looking at them in magazines. Also had them in my collection of toy cars. Such iconic cars.❤
Both are AMAZING. Hard to forget the Testarossa on Miami Vice!
Both very cool poster cars of the 80's. I can appreciate the Countach and it is obviously cool, but it's never really done it for me. The Testarossa never used to do it for me but in recent years, it has aged so so well and in my eyes is mega cool and would be my choice. Thanks Mark for the great vid 👍

The best Testarossa was definitely the 512TR. Absolutely love both and I had both on my Bedroom wall back in 85.
The 512TR benefited from a lot of improvements over the original Testarossa yet retained the same look, so it is much sought after.

I had a friend who owned a Testarossa. Glorious car, but I always loved the Countach. Personally I think comparing the two is not right, they where not designed for the same purpose and let's face it, the Countach was allready an old car when the Testarossa came out.
In this case (at least to me) the Ferrari TR is cool but only looking from the rear so, that is why the Countach takes the cake on everything is so extreme and amazing very easy to see why is the favorite poster car, but if Countach would have being compared to an F40 the balance switch toward > F40 because imo that is by far the greatest Ferrari ! ;0)
Those two cars are two of the most beautiful designs in cars history.
Such an honest review thank you.

Lamborghini make more dramatic cars for sure!
I had posters of both cars on my walls of my bedroom as a kid but I always preferred Ferrari’s over Lamborghinis and Ferrari was my favourite car company until Pagani came around putting my old favourite into a close 2nd. Quite ironic that Horatio Pagani used to work for Lamborghini. Both of these 12-cylinder titans are timeless and forever linked.
The prototype Countach LP500 was unveiled at the Geneva motorshow in 1971, then released in 1974. I'd consider it to be more of a 70s-era car as the 80s ones were largely the same.

I remember the local mall had a white Countach on display somewhere around 1986-88. Everyone had posters but seeing it in person and up close back then was like encountering a mythical creature.
Had a neighbor growing up in the 1980s who owned 2 Countachs, a white one and a black one. Parked them on tile floor in his living room LOL. Used to love seeing and hearing those cars when he rarely took them for a drive...
Harry Metcalfe has both and has done big trips in both - the Countach has been to the South of France and Italy many times, the Testarossa went to the south of France carrying an outboard boat engine in its frunk, and has been deep into the Sahara desert... both deceptively usable cars!
I didn't know the trunk was called a 'frunk' in France, lol. Just kidding. : ) I've test driven a Countach 5000S and an Anniversary model - the 5000S was a lot easier to drive than the Anniversary which was like taking a bull by the horns, lol, but I loved it! Have never owned a Lamborghini though, always end up with Porches or BMW M3's.
The Coutach is amazing, but the TR is the one I would really love to have if it was simply which one I like the best.
I own an 87 Testatossa and it’s a joy to drive. I get out of it and into my 2022 AMG C63s and it feels like a school bus.
The Testarossa is such an iconic car. So happy to hear that you’re enjoying it in 2022.
The Countach remains to be an inspiration, and the only car that has come close to compare, is the Ferrari F40.
@1:15, you say that the Testarossa was powered by a flat 12 engine which implies this was a boxer engine, which it wasn’t. Ferrari used a 180deg V12 which although flat like a boxer engine, isn’t the same. Semantics you’ll say but I just wanted to clarify. A great video overall btw

You say that as joke, but as a kid that's what I always imagined -- being able to drive my Countach right into the house (single-storey open-concept bungalow), directly onto a special hard pad in the middle of the carpeted living room. I never considered the issue of fumes and such.

Well that was fun!! I've loved the Countach from a young, impressionable 5 year old - and it owes a lot to Cannonball Run! It sounded amazing, looked incredible - to hell with practicality! Supercars weren't/didn't have to be 'practical'. I loved the Testarossa too. Ferrari has always made beautiful cars! Posters for both of these were on my wall, but my #1 favourite at the time was always the Porsche 911. This was all changed in 1985 when I was introduced to the 959...now THAT became THE car for me! Still loved the others, but my early love of engineering & innovation had me hooked with the Porsche - AND getting nearly 450 hp out of a 6 cylinder engine boggled my mind when the Italians need 12 to do the same!!
At age 5 you probably were REALLY only seeing the Countach and not what it carried on the Cannonball run.
@@xiphias2997you might think that, but it certainly didn't go over my head the attractiveness of Adrienne Barbeau & Tara Buckman even at that age, that 'awakening' came later, but I knew enough to give credit where it's due, especially to the lovely Farrah Fawcett!
The real attraction then was definitely the cars though.
