The Ferrari f40 and Porsche 959 in the mid 80s when they came out were and are considered to be the first ever SUPER sports cars. I've owned a Testarossa for 24 years. I didn't intend to buy it. I went to a Ferrari dealership expecting to buy a white Countach. One problem though, I'm a big guy. I didn't fit in the Countach. It's such an impractical and uncomfortable car unless you're 5'4" and 150 lbs. I bought the TR because I fit in the drivers seat. It had 9000 miles on it, was 10 years old, and I was the 3rd owner. It now has 40,000 miles and I've loved every one of them. However, hindsight is 20/20. If I had known the future I would have bought the Lambo regardless. In 1999 both those cars were going for around $85,000. Today, the TR hasn't gone up much but the Countach is now over $400,000.
Both cars are awesome and gorgeous, but hands down the countach is my favorite, just like most teenagers. I had the white lamborghini countach poster on my wall. But let's not forget the Ferrari 308 gts in the classic TV show magnum pi.
I remember reading Road and Track Magazine during the 80's and drooling over both of these cars. I always liked the aesthetics of both, but preferred the Testarossa. I've never driven either, but, for those interested, watch Jay Leno's review of his Testarossa. He drove one daily for years and gives a pretty honest assessment of it. If I recall correctly, he said he liked it, but, like this reviewer, said there are better driving cars. Leno described driving the Countach at high speeds as like driving a brick because the aerodynamics aren't particularly good despite it looking like its aerodynamics should be efficient and stable. Actually, I always preferred the Porsche 911 and its variants to both of these cars (particularly the 930 Turbo), and would get one today, if I could afford it - which I can't. When I was 15 I figured I was going to live in a mansion, drive a 930 Turbo and date a series of supermodels until I died. I'm still waiting for that whole process to begin.
Every kid in 80's Poland used to dream about Countach :) watching this video was a trip down the memory lane for me, thank you!. And oh boy, did Testarossa age well... Both are stunning.
Not every kid 😉 I fell in love with Testarossa in early 90s when I got a huge wall poster with Ferrari on it, and in early 2000 I saw it live on the streets of Berlin. Majestic car. will always choose its over Countach
@@michal_PL true, true, I should have phrased it better :) Countach was like the car from the future with its aggressive lines. I prefer Testarossa as well.
LAMBORGHINI COUNTACH as a kid seemed amazing , but as I got older Ferrari was just better and also the best sounding dream car ever for my ears. sort of spider on upwards to F50 best sounding cars
I had a friend who owned a Testarossa. Glorious car, but I always loved the Countach. Personally I think comparing the two is not right, they where not designed for the same purpose and let's face it, the Countach was allready an old car when the Testarossa came out.
In this case (at least to me) the Ferrari TR is cool but only looking from the rear so, that is why the Countach takes the cake on everything is so extreme and amazing very easy to see why is the favorite poster car, but if Countach would have being compared to an F40 the balance switch toward > F40 because imo that is by far the greatest Ferrari ! ;0)
They are both incredible and amazing cars, but the Lambo is, to this day, the most incredible looking car that has ever been made. That being said, I am currently in the market for a 2022 Acura NSX, which will kick the ass of either of these cars. But I may still pick up something from this era in the future.
If there had been an internet in 1985, the Countach QV would have broken it into a million pieces. My Countach poster was two metres long, came from California and was the showpiece of my bedroom as a teenager. I also had Porsche 959, Ferrari Daytona Spider and Koenig Competition Evolution posters. Only the best!
@Alabama Worley Stick with my Acura NSX thankyou very much! Nowhere NEAR the power of these two, but a cool 3.0 V6 and something I can not worry about! GOLD!
Two of my most favorite cars. The Lamborghini Countach and the Lamborghini Countach. I also know where there is a Testarossa sitting in the grass beside the driveway just doing nothing but rotting away. It's quite sad really.
I've never heard what he bought it for, but he said he bought it at a time when stock brokers were jumping off of buildings. He is always great with money it seems.
Countach for me hands down no question. The '85 was one of the first cars I ever fell in love with and I had the anniversary edition as a 1:8 scale model in silver. Was my fave toy.
I'll take the Lambo which can have its engine serviced in the car as opposed to the Ferrari which needs its engine removed to change the cam belts, etc.
I remember right after the Cannonball Run movie came out, Road & Track did a special feature comparing the Countach and the Ferrari Boxer. They concluded that the Lambo was not comfortable, got bad gas mileage and was impractical for driving to work. I remember thinking, “….WHO CARES???” 😂
@@ExMachina70 The Countach was the star at our local little car show that was basically done by the local car dealers. The show ran from Friday to Sunday. Friday afternoon a rich dude showed up, put a pile of money on the table and said "I am taking the Countach with me right now". The remainder of the show there was no star any more ...
Yer, I watched something similar about 4 years ago. I have always been a Ferrari person and when I first saw the Countach, sure I was impressed but I just got the impression they were going more for the street appeal. Turns out after all these years, that's pretty much what it came down to. The Testarossa was a more refined sports car.
I am a 80's kid but i seem to remember the F40 also being the poster car Ferrari alongside the Testarossa due to its even more striking styling. Love all of them but i am definitely a Lambo fan.
The prototype Countach LP500 was unveiled at the Geneva motorshow in 1971, then released in 1974. I'd consider it to be more of a 70s-era car as the 80s ones were largely the same.
The Countach is easily the sexiest supercar that ever existed. Period, full stop. However, i would rather drive around in a 308. It might not have the dynamic styling of the Countach, but it is a beautiful car!
Yeah - the 308 is the sweetest looking car ever. Ferrari should just keep producing them but with modernized build quality and road manners. Whoever uses 700bhp, all wheel drive, active suspension, hybrid bla, bla, bla on the road anyway?
The Countach is without a doubt the ultimate dream super car to own. It’s a fighter jet for the road. Just looking at it gets your heart racing. Must own one before you die.
I'll bet that the Lambo fuse/electric boxes last longer! Had no idea that any car company used traces on their fuse/electrical boxes instead of conventional wiring until I saw a Car Wizard video on the Testarossa. Ferarri has done this with other models also and replacement , not repair, is required most of the time-John in Texas
Countach was a leap in futuristic design that snapped everyone into attention. I love those massive tires too. It just looks so beefy and muscled up like a body builder.
The Countach is the all-time most beautiful car of all time. I had a poster on my wall growing up as a kid of the Lamborghini Countach and I always wanted to have one and still to this day, even with all of the hyper cars out there it is still the most beautiful car ever made Ferrari not even close.
@1:15, you say that the Testarossa was powered by a flat 12 engine which implies this was a boxer engine, which it wasn’t. Ferrari used a 180deg V12 which although flat like a boxer engine, isn’t the same. Semantics you’ll say but I just wanted to clarify. A great video overall btw
I've always thought the Countach looked kinda goofy. Cool but goofy. The Testarossa, however, has a beautiful timeless look that still looks incredible today. Probably the coolest designed car of all time.
When I clicked on this, I thought there would be a drag race. He is right. These cars are fragile. Ever wonder what an engine swap would cost in a Testarossa or a Countach? I believe that if you launched these car the transmissions would end up on the side of the road! The Countach looks way better from behind! 🤤
Well that was fun!! I've loved the Countach from a young, impressionable 5 year old - and it owes a lot to Cannonball Run! It sounded amazing, looked incredible - to hell with practicality! Supercars weren't/didn't have to be 'practical'. I loved the Testarossa too. Ferrari has always made beautiful cars! Posters for both of these were on my wall, but my #1 favourite at the time was always the Porsche 911. This was all changed in 1985 when I was introduced to the 959...now THAT became THE car for me! Still loved the others, but my early love of engineering & innovation had me hooked with the Porsche - AND getting nearly 450 hp out of a 6 cylinder engine boggled my mind when the Italians need 12 to do the same!!
@@xiphias2997you might think that, but it certainly didn't go over my head the attractiveness of Adrienne Barbeau & Tara Buckman even at that age, that 'awakening' came later, but I knew enough to give credit where it's due, especially to the lovely Farrah Fawcett! The real attraction then was definitely the cars though.
Great video, but it would have been more accurate to compare the Countach with the F40. The Testarossa was a GT, and the Countach and the F40 were supercars.
I disagree. The Countach and Testarossa were direct competitors in the 1980's. The F40 was a special 'race car' although we will review an F40 at some point.
The Countach with the wing over the front bumper was my number one favorite supercar back then but my 2nd choice was never the Testerossa. The 1985 Buick Wildcat took the number 2 spot. Now my all time favorite is the Porsche 918 Spyder.
It has always been said "you never want to meet you're hero's, cause they'll let you down'.. no matter what it is, and even with it's fault's I'll take a Lamborghini Countach 5000s Quatrovalve all day long!! PS...in Black!
I remember a few years back, taking out the 89 anniversary edition Countach and coming up behind a Testarossa, it was such a great ride up through parts of Connecticut and New York through all the winding roads, then just came to a point where we went our separate ways just beeped and waved. But it was a great memorable ride. But I do have to say when that Countach was parked it always drew a crowd, even when it was parked next to Ferraris excetera everyone always hovered around the Countach! If you go back in the video to around 3:19 the one I was driving is almost exactly the same color and everything except without that ugly wing and front bumper, lol thank you so much for the video! And if anyone wants to buy an 89 anniversary Countach, let me know. Definitely needs a makeover though
Although at one time they may have been competitors (in the 1980's), today you can buy 3 x Testarossa for the price of 1 x Countach, so they are not really in the same league anymore. Having said that, for me I'd have the Countach, please.

I read the same magazines. I also would have the 911. Or one of the 3 on your list, but alas.....
Awesome video. The Italians sure know how to make beautiful cars.
Loved the video 😍😍😍
Thanks! Yes they do!
Every kid in 80's Poland used to dream about Countach :) watching this video was a trip down the memory lane for me, thank you!. And oh boy, did Testarossa age well... Both are stunning.
We did in America to... that was my dream car
Any fan of the original Cannonball Run will never pass up a Countach. It practically trademarked presence.
These were two of the cars I had on my bedroom wall growing up.
They're still fantastic looking cars 30 plus years on 😍
Same here....
I had the Countach on my wall. Took me a very long time to drive one!
Nothing like a Countach! Incredible to drive once you get a bit of seat time behind the wheel! Amazing video thx
Thanks! It was a fantastic experience.
The best Testarossa was definitely the 512TR. Absolutely love both and I had both on my Bedroom wall back in 85.
The 512TR benefited from a lot of improvements over the original Testarossa yet retained the same look, so it is much sought after.
How rich are you bro?
@Alabama Worley Stick with my Acura NSX thankyou very much! Nowhere NEAR the power of these two, but a cool 3.0 V6 and something I can not worry about! GOLD!
There's only one way to be sure... own both. Countach still my poster car. That wing and scoops!
I agree. You need both!
Anyone watching in 2024 and like me, still dreaming about owning these timeless classics :)
I’d rather them do this thing on an oval race track, not on the street.
Yep.
Two of my most favorite cars. The Lamborghini Countach and the Lamborghini Countach.
I also know where there is a Testarossa sitting in the grass beside the driveway just doing nothing but rotting away. It's quite sad really.
One looks like a car, one doesn't. I want the one that looks otherworldly.
Fun fact: Jay Leno drove his Countach in the 80's as a everyday car, for years. . .😎👌💯
Amazing
Is that fun?
He stated the secret is letting it warm up to operating temperature and it's actually pretty reliable. He covers it on his channel.
Bet that was comfortable 🤠😂
I've never heard what he bought it for, but he said he bought it at a time when stock brokers were jumping off of buildings. He is always great with money it seems.
Countach first then Testarossa as 2 coolest cars ever produced!
I agree, they are both iconic Italian supercars.
@@888mf4 Just needed to throw in a Lotus Esprit turbo and you would have had the Holy trifecta of 80's Super cars
Countach for me hands down no question. The '85 was one of the first cars I ever fell in love with and I had the anniversary edition as a 1:8 scale model in silver. Was my fave toy.
thank you to the owners, and thank you to YOU; very mutch thank´s .... for this nice video with this best cars ever ❤❤❤
you are welcome. From the Countach owner. 😊
I'll take the Lambo which can have its engine serviced in the car as opposed to the Ferrari which needs its engine removed to change the cam belts, etc.
The Coutach is amazing, but the TR is the one I would really love to have if it was simply which one I like the best.
Times were so much more fun back then. I'd go to the LA car show in awe of these supercars.
8 miles to the gallon. Worth it.
As if anyone who owns a Countach would have a day job.
Testarossa is definitely the better car (in most things), however - if I think of a 80s super car (my youth) - the Countach wins hands down.
I remember Road & Track's story on the 5000 Quattrovalvole - "Ferrari upped the anti with the Testarossa, now Lamborghini sweetens the pot."
I am a 80's kid but i seem to remember the F40 also being the poster car Ferrari alongside the Testarossa due to its even more striking styling. Love all of them but i am definitely a Lambo fan.
Lamborghini make more dramatic cars for sure!
The prototype Countach LP500 was unveiled at the Geneva motorshow in 1971, then released in 1974. I'd consider it to be more of a 70s-era car as the 80s ones were largely the same.
It might suck to drive, but goddam, the Countach is still an amazing looking car!!
It drives great. I know. It’s mine 😀
Growing up these were the two hottest cars on the planet. Legendary. This is an awesome, honest review. Thank you 🙏
Both are AMAZING. Hard to forget the Testarossa on Miami Vice!
The Countach is without a doubt the ultimate dream super car to own. It’s a fighter jet for the road. Just looking at it gets your heart racing. Must own one before you die.
Well untill you realize that it is actually a pretty bad car for driving.
"Fighter jet" that drives like a tractor. But lambo has always made tractors so it's no surprise lmao 😂😂😂
Takes you straight back to the 80s, watching this video! Thanks Mark!
Thanks for the positive feedback!
And yet even today the countach next to any newer super car's and the countach still gets more thumbs up than anything else
That 24- cylinder symphony at the start was absolutely euphoric!
A lovely duo to compare.
Testarossa for me. Love the soundtrack too!
Thanks SP
Yes, the soundtrack suits perfect to this content and I'm wondering where I can find and listen this track..? Great job!
Countach was a leap in futuristic design that snapped everyone into attention. I love those massive tires too. It just looks so beefy and muscled up like a body builder.
You like muscular men, do you....
Both beautiful, and were posters on my wall as a child. If i had to pick, it would be the tessi
Two of the most iconic cars in the world if not the most iconic cars.
Lamborghini always felt more "exotic" to me, something you will not see as often as a Ferrari.
They made a lot more Testarossa's
Iconic super cars unlike today's computers on wheels
I had the Testarossa on my wall, and my brother had the Countach on his. He still likes the Lambos and I still like the Ferraris.
The Countach is the all-time most beautiful car of all time. I had a poster on my wall growing up as a kid of the Lamborghini Countach and I always wanted to have one and still to this day, even with all of the hyper cars out there it is still the most beautiful car ever made Ferrari not even close.
Deux icônes des années 80💖💖🥰🥰 Toutefois dommage que la Testorrossa n'est pas une première version ( à un seul rétro )😉
5:05 shoddy Italian craftsmanship? No sir, you are mistaken, a loose shifter knob is a luxury feature, not a flaw
Great video. Loved it 👏
Thanks Tom.
Yes Very Good Review!!!!!!!!
The Countach still makes your head turn today it is so exotic
Ferrari not? cmon 🤣
Yeah the boxer engine would have a journal for each opposed piston whereas the 180 degree v12 would have one journal for each pair.
@@hoobaguy Few people know the difference, glad to see some do :)
@@hoobaguy *"...whereas the 180 degree v12..."*
A 180-degree V12?
@@bricaaron3978 Yep. Questions?
@@hoobaguy Well, a 180-degree angle and a 'V' are two different things, right?
I used to have the Lamborghini on my wall back in the day. Hands down still my favorite car.
I've always thought the Countach looked kinda goofy. Cool but goofy. The Testarossa, however, has a beautiful timeless look that still looks incredible today. Probably the coolest designed car of all time.
That intro music alone brings me back to that era. Truly badass video and truly badass cars.
Thanks
what is that intro song called?
When I clicked on this, I thought there would be a drag race. He is right. These cars are fragile. Ever wonder what an engine swap would cost in a Testarossa or a Countach? I believe that if you launched these car the transmissions would end up on the side of the road! The Countach looks way better from behind! 🤤
Ask Harry.
testarossa has aged better and is more user friendly by today's standards but the countach was the car that made me a car guy for life
Two cars, two proper supercars, two absolutely gorgeous machinery. The Testarossa, if I ever had a choice.
And countach is maybe one of the most iconic cars of all times...
The Countach now a days still amazing
... nowadays* ...
Two lovely 80’s icons. Love both ❤️
Good video. Thanks for taking the time to make it.
Thanks for the positive feedback
At age 5 you probably were REALLY only seeing the Countach and not what it carried on the Cannonball run.
The Countach is the most beautiful car that has ever been made.
Most iconic maybe but not most beautiful, no way. That's coming from someone who had a Countach poster on my wall as a kid.
The Countach is timeless. It could pass for a 2022 today.
As a kid in the `80 , I loved both cars, I spend hours looking at them in magazines. Also had them in my collection of toy cars. Such iconic cars.❤
They are both beautiful but if you do research being a Lamborghini owner is so much less difficult than owning a Ferrari..myself I'm a 911 guy
It has always been said "you never want to meet you're hero's, cause they'll let you down'.. no matter what it is, and even with it's fault's I'll take a Lamborghini Countach 5000s Quatrovalve all day long!! PS...in Black!
The two super cars of my dreams when I was little..
I tend to agree. The Countach still looks dramatic in 2021.
Umm how much?
@@michaelvoorhees5978 290
@@eeezzztolv $290‽ that's way too cheap. That thing is worth ALOT!!! PLEASE don't sell it for $290! It's worth that for scrap price.
@@michaelvoorhees5978 Thanks so much for the concern!! But it needs some restoration, like paint and some small stuff
Lambo looks like a fighter Jet and looks pure speed. Testy looks fast with class
The Countach remains to be an inspiration, and the only car that has come close to compare, is the Ferrari F40.
Although at one time they may have been competitors (in the 1980's), today you can buy 3 x Testarossa for the price of 1 x Countach, so they are not really in the same league anymore. Having said that, for me I'd have the Countach, please.
Both are some of the coolest cars ever made but the Countach is hands down the most beautiful looking car of all time imho
Only love the Countach. Superb video. Looking forward to more reviews.
Convert that thing to have power steering and give the engine a tune, Countach all day. Ferrari is cool and all, but the Lambo always steals the show.
