    The "Lebkuchen Herzen" are a type of souvenir that you buy/give to someone as a gift and they usually hang them on a wall or put them on display on a shelf. They are not really meant to be eaten and taste horrible (we've all been there) because the recipe is designed for longevity and not for taste. After a couple of weeks or months they become hard as stone and last forever. My parent still have Hearts like this from when they were dating, back in the 1960's. Wait for Christmas time to get proper Lebkuchen. So remember, Lebkuchen with a certain shape and stuff written on it with sugar is 99% not meant to be eaten.

    I doubt I’ve ever seen it this busy! And that’s despite the relatively cold weather… It must be because of the two years without it. I hope the Lebkuchen you got wasn’t still from the 2020 stock that needed to be sold off 🤣
    And btw Reibekuchen and Latkes are the same. One is the German and one the Yiddish name for it. When I visited New York, I was surprised to see that a lot of the Jewish food there is just kosher dishes from German and Eastern European cuisine. Also challah bread can be found in any German household, typically around Easter under the name of “Hefezopf” (yeast braid).

    Great that you finally made it. It can be exhausting going there. Love all the huge rides and effort they put into these, but after 2-3 hours, you are happy to walk off to a quieter place;-)
    And as always, I have a fun story to share. At the Augsburger Plaerrer, a way smaller festival, I went into one of those hanging carousels. Well, as I explained in a post a while back, I am getting sick in rides that go around. Well, the inevitable happened and I had to throw up DURING the ride. I leave it up to your imagination how that went;-)

    Hey dude! Cheers from Hannover! This looks like the festivals up here, just more people. Schützenfest is a big one here and the Oktoberfest Hannover was the 2nd largest behind Munich until recently (based on number of visitors). Come up north sometime and see a different Germany! (I also need another trip south sometime, it's been a while)

    • @DerEchteBold
      @DerEchteBold Год назад

      Actually the one in the video is usually called the second biggest fair in the world, I just looked it up and Hannover is ranked the tenth biggest in Germany.
      But interestingly the four biggest in the world are all in Germany, behind Munich the order of Stuttgart, Bremen and Düsseldorf can vary on different lists.

    • @ericderami
      @ericderami Год назад

      @@DerEchteBold what did you look up for that info? What do you consider to be a "fair"? The Hannover Oktoberfest is not even the biggest annual event in Hannover but until I find disputing info, I have read that until recent years it was the 2nd largest Oktoberfest in Germany behind Munich.
      But when I search for the top Volksfeste in Germany, I find the Hannover Schützenfest at number 10 so maybe that is what you are talking about but this list is only in Germany and not the world. But...this lists the Cannstatter at 3 behind Rheinkirmes and Oktoberfest Munich.

    Most of the fairs in the states suck compared to the german ones. It's because the tradition of German Kirmes and Volksfest are ancient and are often started in cities pilgrims went to. It all started with somebody selling good food to the hungry pilgrims and then it grew from there.

  • @apocalypse8886
    @apocalypse8886 2 года назад +2

    Calling one of the largest Volksfests in Germany underrated is sweet. According to 2019 data it was on rank 3 of all Volksfests with 4 million visitors... behind the Muenchner Oktoberfest with 6.2 million visitors and the Duesseldorfer Rheinkirmes with 4.2 million visitors. So.... ahhmmm... it's not THAT MUCH unknown.

    Haha, Trey , you are not supposed to eat the Lebkuchenherz. Its something you get as a gift from a loved one and bring home to put somewhere as decoration. :-) The fresh Lebkuchen to eat is the stuff you get in the paper bags ....:-) To be honest : I am not a fan of these kind of festivals anymore. Too much waste of ressources ( energy, trash, food...)...I think Canstatter Wasen, Oktoberfest, etc. really need to rethink their festival concepts..

      Mostly the Wiesn ist the biggest rip-off of all. Most expensive beer, food and ride prices. Riding one carnival ride is 20-40% more expensive than the exact same ride standing on a fair/fest in any other city. Surely, a sight to see but not a sight to spend money on.

    You'd need to get yourself into one of those tents. Its not easy though. You need to book a year in advance or you know ppl. But please do not be mistaken - i'm from the middle of Germany and you would actually have to pay me a lot of money to enter one of those tents. I have been there. I do not want to go there ever again. So yeah, its a great festival. But - its also ok not to like it! I am German, i hate that stuff, but we are all cool.
