When i double click on the node to open in putty, it says "network error - connection refused". however, if i open putty separately and enter IP address of eve-ng, I can gain access to the CLI. however, i am not able to gain access to the fortigate firewall :-(....any advice?

I did exactly the same as what you showed but when starting the firewall, it automatically stopped after a few seconds. Will you guess what the issue is? Please let me share if you have any fixes.

In Eve ng, I have clicked Firewall and it starts but within few seconds it goes off. Putty error! (Network Error:Connection Refused). please help

Fortinet is company and Fortigate is Firewall products from Fortinet.

2. On Platform select KVM images.
