As a student pilot I hit moderate to severe turbulence last night over the some mountains in VA in a DA40. Watching your clip has motivated me to get back out and try it again (I was a little shook up). Well done and thank you!
Love watching this, great teachable moment on maintaining the center line. Reminds me of when I started training with 2 months of crazy winds off Lake Michigan.
I flew a Cessna 172 when first training. When I moved the trainer plane at the new airport was the DiamondDA40. Absolutely beautiful plane! A little strange going from a yolk to a stick, but the plane handles much better than the Cessna. Nice landing!
Just watching the turbulence video and realized you were landing where I am based! My plane is in the hangars there at the end of Runway 6:) Jet Center is no more, they are building some huge hangars for jets there and supposedly a new tower if I remember correctly? I just know it's all torn up on that back road as they are running things and building new things there.
After binge watching all your previous (newer) videos for the past week or so of you in the Cirrus (N172RA and N122SZ) it was really strange to see you behind the controls of a center stick like that. Great job dealing with those winds.
Like my first instructor taught me, "fly the plane, don't let the plane fly you!" Good work man, make that plane your bitch! Good on ya for reporting the windshear too. Reference the AIM 7-1 for turbulence reporting criteria, and how to classify it. looked like some good moderate chop for sure. Again, good job!
Nice job. Trying to learn how to handle winds like this on landing myself - I seem to have to deal with them almost every day! It's tough without a lot of experience.
Would you consider takeoff flaps and a higher final approach speed (say, 80kts) in this situation? The AFM recommends doing so but haven't personally tried it. Thanks for sharing. Your videos led me to rent this very plane and a lesson from Chris at daretodream.
Higher final speed when you know you'll encounter wind sheer is a must. Partial flaps are also a good idea as long as you remember to add 5 knots on your final for every notch of flaps you remove. Chris is a great instructor! Happy Flying.
I'm not a huge fan of the Diamond Stars in wind... That big tail just loves to wag when it gets windy. Kind of cool too, you're flying 644DS and I've been flying 655DS :-) Safe flying!
That got a little hairy nice job. Did you see Steveo1kinevo last video? the weather closed on him I think he was a little nervous . Any videos coming out in the new year?
Great Job Niko! Great job keeping your passengers relaxed as well. There is always an instinct to vocalize when things get interesting. Well done. I have 50 hrs in a DA40 and love the plane. Notice you have a lot of time in the 172. Any reason you haven't flown the Diamond more in Florida?
+Dominic Carpenter Hi there, well I have split my time in Florida between the DA40 and the 182. I do fly the 172 on occasion when nothing else is available. I absolutely love the DA40. Happy Skies!!!
Way to stay cool on that landing! I’m just starting my training in Chicago. Curious how you think the DA40 vs the SR22 handles wind sheer. I’d assume the SR22 would do a little better being heavier but the DA40 is supposed to be narrower specifically for wind sheer.
I think they both handle it nice. You just have to keep the speed a bit higher when you expect it and fly it all the way to touchdown. The Cirrus does feel heavier and not as “feathery” in the wind
hey niko great videos. would you point me in the right direction to BUY a video camera to record my flight lessons with clear audio like in your vids. what cam do you recommend?
Definitely get a GoPro of any kind, even the GoPro hero ($129) is good, but for good nighttime shooting go with the GoPro hero 3 or 4 ($300-$400). For the audio portion you can use either a GoPro that has an audio input or use your phone or other external audio recorder. I use my phone but then I have to join the video and audio tracks which is not easy. To record audio you will need a audio splitter of some sort so go to sporty's and look up some cockpit audio recording products or google some. Hope this helps.
Hey awesome! I don't see many central Florida videos. I know this is a weird question but where can I find disability restrictions for getting a pilot's license? I'm in the north Orlando area
good point Nikos. your a good pilot . i like the plane. so what would be the benefit of going around ? , would the wind not be similar the second time . Very good landing !
hmmm.....whats the maximum crosswind component tolerance for the DA-40? Glad you got her down, very skillful but also a bit of 'luck'. Perhaps better choice to either not takeoff with gusts to 28, or go around and find airport with more favorable winds.
When flying wind is always an issue. Having earned my wings up in the Windy City one needs to deal with crosswinds and everything Mother Nature has up her sleeve. There’s a way to do it and it’s not luck. Being lucky is not part of flying safe, that’s where skills come in.
Wind shear compensation is done by keeping the airspeed at least 10 knots above final speed, so if final for the DA40 is 70, I would do 90. In this case I did 90 because I was expecting more than 10 knots wind shear. Keep the nose down thus reducing the angle of attack and lower the possibility of a stall, you will notice that on the first sound of the stall horn I push forward. That's instinctive for me. Finally, fly the airplane all the way to the ground. I did NOT glide down, I flew it with power all the way before touch down. Hope this helps!
Since youre a Cirrus owner now, what can you say about the flying characteristics of the DA40 vs the Cirrus other than the obvious (i.e. the stick/sideyoke, etc).. i presume you like the Cirrus much more than a Diamond but I always liked the Diamonds. Perhaps its a step up from the trainers at Skill? JW. Love your videos
I'm curious to know as well. I did most of my training in a DA40 after getting out of the miserable 172 which feels like a box on wheels when compared to the aerodynamic low wing Diamond.
Two masses of air at different altitudes moving at different directions or speeds or both. This is very common at various altitudes all the way up to the stratosphere. However, it becomes a concern when it is Low Level Wind Shear (LLWS), which is typically wind shear at less than 1,000 feet when airplanes land or takeoff and they are slow and low.
As a student pilot I hit moderate to severe turbulence last night over the some mountains in VA in a DA40. Watching your clip has motivated me to get back out and try it again (I was a little shook up). Well done and thank you!
Don’t let that stop you and I hope by now you have your license
I loved that budget "Follow me" vehicle at 7:05 :D
Excellent job! Through wind shear and gusts to a smooth, centerline landing. Love it!
Pucker up a bit when you hear that stall warning at 200. Nicely done!
Love watching this, great teachable moment on maintaining the center line. Reminds me of when I started training with 2 months of crazy winds off Lake Michigan.
Outstanding job dealing with that wind shear situation! Excellent video, as usual.
Excellent work! As a currently PPL holder on type DA40, this landing is really something!
I flew a Cessna 172 when first training. When I moved the trainer plane at the new airport was the DiamondDA40. Absolutely beautiful plane! A little strange going from a yolk to a stick, but the plane handles much better than the Cessna. Nice landing!
As an old DA40 flyer...nice job!
Very nice. Wind shear always makes me pucker up. Great job.
was holding my breath - great work.

Wow! That was a truly a work of aviation art! Great flying Nikko!

Glad to see you still makin vids with that housemusic. love it. Great quality. We should go flying sometime!
Nice, classic example of windshear!
What a landing!! You nailed it perfectly on the centerline. And so relaxt. well done !
Would have been interesting to see that from outside the plane. Great job. I love flying the DA40. Im out of FXE. Cheers!
Any landing you can walk away from is a good one, and if you can use the plane the next day it is a great one.
Like my first instructor taught me, "fly the plane, don't let the plane fly you!" Good work man, make that plane your bitch! Good on ya for reporting the windshear too.

Nice job. Trying to learn how to handle winds like this on landing myself - I seem to have to deal with them almost every day! It's tough without a lot of experience.
It’s not easy, you just ride the wave and keep flying until the ground.
Great landing! I was holding my breath just watching lol
Nice flying, buddy!
Nice landing Cap!! You are cool pilot, I wish you a lot of safe takeoffs and landings man!
Amazing control. Nice work!
nice job on that landing. Looking forward to seeing the new SR22 videos.
Nice landing in those conditions. Very smooth.
You had a great landing. The DA40 is not the easiest plane to land in turbulent weather. Nice job
Rock star. Beautiful flying.
Well done, and good centerline discipline!
Very well flown Niko!
Niko’s an awesome pilot Blessings 🥇👍🏼👍🏼
I’ve been in this same plane to the Bahamas. Fun times!
Great landing!
Whoa! That was epic crazy reflexes
great job niko,fly safe
I did my first solo in 644DS a couple months after you recorded this.
Stall warning and all stuff we need to feel challenged. Wish I can fly one of those single engine Diamonds some day
Love the intro great video.
A very nice and controled landing!!

WELL DONE...
Nice work, that stall warning was squealing like a stuck pig :-)

Nicely done man!
Way to hang in there on the approach and landing!
Well done!! Scary AF
If you like what you see, 644DS is now for sale at controller.com. Da-40 is a fine aircraft!
Ben Eidson I attest to that, great airplane!
Congratulations sir! That was neat!
+laskartrece Thank you for watching!
Excelent landing ..! Are you Nico or Brad Pitt?
I’m Niko, but I wish I had Brads money lol 😂
@@NikosWings Nevertheless you are much better pilot ...and this is very important too !
Crazy good, could hear the stall horn going off on approach. How do you like the DA40
Nice landing!
I landed in Dallas one time and the Down Draft on approach maxed out the slack in my seat belts! Scary!
Oh wow...

Whew! Nicely done!
Cool as a fu&^ing cucumber my man! That was some nice A-1 piloting right there, gratz on a job well done.
Well controlled!
That was some pretty bad turbulence on short final - but you did very well!
Very well done Sir
Very well flown. Way to put her on the centerline.
That was very impressive.

@@NikosWings thanks!
Very good pilot
Nicely done
I would call for a go around. It’s nerve racking hearing the stall warning at final
well done!
Great job. Correct on flying to ground, not smacking the ground
You make look easy.
Nice work no go around there!
Good ole da-40 glider wing!
You know it…
hey Niko what song is that, that you use for your intro. Thanks for the videos.
great piloting
what song is that at the beginning and end of the video.....BTW nice approach
Thanks, the music is royalty free music I purchased to use on my videos!
Great job! What's in the windshear report in addition to the height?
The -10 I referred to was the wind speed drop at 200'. It turned out it was -15 but at the time I thought it was -10
+Niko's Wings thanks. There's always something to learn :) keep on with your videos! Love them! More in the 182!
As a DA40 pilot, do you come in for a landing at around 72 Kts like I do. It seems to want to stall early if I don't.
I don’t remember the exact speed but I think it’s 75 at full flaps
Was that technique roll to rigth and rudder to left, having wing fron the rigth side?
The wind was all over, left right left right
@@NikosWings O.K. anuway, congratulations, you are a great pilot.
good landing

Last week we landed at 20 knots

Bredaxe hmmm... that's a good question. I think you should talk to the FAA or go and talk to a local flight school about what's possible.
Thanks and great white knuckle landing!
I would have gone around. Especially with the family on board, flying a single engine and so close to the ground.
With the family or not action should be the same friend...
good point Nikos. your a good pilot . i like the plane. so what would be the benefit of going around ? , would the wind not be similar the second time . Very good landing !

Can you describe what you did to handle the wind shear? Looks like you bumped up the throttle to compensate against a stall and kept it level?
Wind shear compensation is done by keeping the airspeed at least 10 knots above final speed, so if final for the DA40 is 70, I would do 90. if you have wind shear, would you normally go around?
Probably not, just deal with it, higher final speed and fly the wing...
The stall warning sounds like a baby fox haha

To experience that hell again? It would not get any better on this one
CONGRATS FOR THIS LANDING. IRON. HEHEHE!
Ride 'em kowboy...
You made that plane your bi%%$ and made it get down. Nicely done.
Nice
I would have needed a change of . . . pants? (I go commando . . .)
I can't believe it's not butter. I mean wind shear.
👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Got you to 700, lol.
Dang.
Very good Pilot. I want to be the pilot Niko is. Follow his channel👌🏼
