I was the guy in the left seat 25 years ago. At that stage you question if flying is for you. The stubborn guys/gals keep pushing forward and one day it all clicks…. then the learning really starts!
It's not bad at all. I think any person who has flown very forgiving planes before like a PA28 or C172 will first struggle a bit with the Da40 and gusts will definitely not help. It is a very safe plane but you spend your life trimming it to fly level. it's also slick and the landing gear will only flex so much. That thing just wants to glide. If you try to touch down without bleeding off excess speed or touch a bit hard, bounce it will 😂 But landing the Da40 regularly will make you a much better pilot
If an instructor tells you to cover the throttle he does for good reason. So take his advice. You appeared to be reticent to follow him. If you had to close the throttle quickly you cant if you just have a finger on it. Ego has no place in the cockpit matey. Early days so its just an observation we all suffer it at times. Great decision to go around. stick at it.
When that video was made, the stall horn had a habit of sounding a bit earlier (10-15 kts above stall speed) than it was supposed to. After replacing the reed, the warning speed dropped about 5 kts. You will still here it on landing though. The official spec for the horn is it should start sounding 5-10kts above stall speed. Stall speed at Vso is 49kts and the horn now starts squealing right about 59.

Does the DA40 stall horn really go off that early? Or what? on a 172 you would be lucky to hear it while you are flaring almost haha.

I will give that a try. The seatbelt is always around my neck. Maybe that will help.
