    Honestly, this car is the absolute best king of all hot hatches. Its got one of the most beautiful rears I have ever seen on any car, it can corner like no other hot hatch, it sounds amazing, its the fastest FWD on the Nürburgring, its a great family car. This car literally ticks all boxes

    I absolutely love my Meg 300 Trophy - I went for the manual model as I just couldn't transition to flappy paddles just yet - Long Live the Manual!!

    4:40 it depends on the view angles, really. Tbh, the front look it could be a sleeper. But the REAR view is something else. Idk for me when first time i discovered this car without knowing it stats, i knew this is a very good hot hatch or very fast car. Cuz i can tell by its fancy looking rear light and also its magnificent rims. To me the Rear design of the Megane is an absolute beast. Definitely much better looking than other hot hatch like civic typer R and golf gti, Much better.

    We looked at a number of cars before getting into the 300 Trophy, and yes those vents are real, they actually work.
    Looked for an S1 Audi, and an RS3. No Manual. Too small in the cockpit area to move legs. Test drove the last manual in a used version, but could not come to it.
    Looked at the 308GTi. Unfortunately, no dealer in Adelaide would get one in, unless we were going to buy it. Booked a flight to Sydney, but it was sold the day before we left. Still trying to use flights thanks to the virus. A motor sport friend has one, and she loves it. Rarer than the trophy.
    Tried to get a Civic. 4 month wait, and you could not test drive one as all were sold. (who buys without a test drive???) Then they did an upgrade but the older models still on the water were coming in and you could not be guaranteed what model version would be received. They fixed the dash controls with knobs. Something they are doing in the upgrade to the Megane.
    Absolutely loathed the Hyundai. Smelt funny, and the seating position was not good. Seats were too small.
    We ordered our manual Trophy in June 2019. We watched it leave the factory via the link sent to us at the end of September, and tracked it on the ship. It arrived at the dealer in January 2020. We started looking for a new car in January 2019.
    Other than the cup holders being too small, and a slow media screen, we love it.
    Not that many in the country, and not many in Adelaide. A shame we are restricted to 4 colours in Australia with a few options offered in other countries. Heads up display would have been good. We would have loved it in Red which other countries get. Always being asked about it when getting fuel, or stopping on a drive into the country. It just attracts looks and interest.
    The 4 control does take some getting used to, but when it hooks up, it has a firmly planted feel.
    A shame the 2020 upgrade due later is only available in the auto. Oh well, we will be keeping ours for a few years yet.

    I'm only running an RS280 but with nearly all the options including Cup Chassis and 2 piece Brembos.
    I came from a troubled and anxiety inducing relationship with a mk3 Focus RS and test drove the i30N, Civic Type R and the Megane all in the same morning. The deposit went on the Megane the following day. Its a great alrounder, quality of fit and finish both in and out are way higher than the Focus which was a huge surprise having only ever heard opinion of Renault and driven dodgey rentals.

    I love the Megane RS Trophy, I actually work for Renault as a technician and I know these cars well. You raised some really fair points and for one thing completely agree about the climate control I think they should have just stuck to buttons amd dials would have been fine. There was one point you made about the dampeners not being adjustable and thats not strictly true. The Megane RS has electronic controlled dampeners meaning it can be adjusted for a smoother ride. This is only done through selecting what driving mode you would like ie. Race mode is firm and Comfort is softer. Its difficult to feel these changes unless driving for a long time like owning the car a few weeks. So no they cannot be adjusted manually like some other manufacturers offer but its not strictly true to say they cant be adjusted at all. Very fair review but if your in the market for a toy hatch. You would be foolish not to at least test drive an RS Trophy

      @vMaxHeadroom Год назад +1

      Having just a couple of weeks back picked up a one owner 24K miles RS 280 Cup manual/stick, I thought the comfort mode had nothing to do with actually changing the suspension though it always felt a tad more easier on the rougher roads here in the UK but I put that down to it playing tricks on my mind or the fact I was not blasting down the roads! I absolutely love the car and it just puts a huge smile on my face and just such a fantastic driving experience down twisty roads. Third Renault I have owned with a Renault 5 GT Turbo all the way back in the 80's, a RS 250 a couple of years back which was a joy and then traded it in for the 280 Cup...yes an extended mid life crisis that Renault is making enjoyable...oh and I just cannot stand driving the family car!

    Yeah, as stated a couple of times there is a facelift model now available. In the UK, the face lift has tweaked front and rear Led lights, new interior screen/dash combo. The Sport has been dropped and all cars come with 300hp. The manual option for the Trophy has now been dropped, and some different wheel choices and the side skirt is now a different design and body coloured. I prefer the pre facelift :D
    Ps the dash Screen shown in this video, can be modified. So you complain about the Aircon controls. If you hold your finger on the screen it gives you the option to add/remove apps and move them around into different pages and to change the layout.

      Can't speak for other markets mate, here in Australia this is still all that's available! Must say the changes from what I've seen are pretty minimal, but maybe now is the time to get the manual while you can new 😁

    One setting only in the trophy, rock hard, that becomes an issue out of town or in South Australia and I think it's a huge oversight by Renault who want to make a more Golf like hot hatch. Other reviewers have found the sport model with softer dampers and springs to be more enjoyable on road. Should be adjustable.
    The 4-wheel steering does the job of making the car more nimble around the streets, but in the hills the system can cause too much turn in or make the rear of the car nervous. This effect can unsettle people and having an option to disable it would be very useful.

    • @CarSauce
      @CarSauce  4 года назад +1

      Thanks Tim! But to this I say, to each their own. Absolutely would be all for removing the 4 wheel steering for adaptive dampers, but as it stands I'm totally happy with the setup. For me 0 learning curve (which is impressive, I can be as thick as a plank!) And the suspensions while definitely stiff was alright in every day use! But as I said, to each their own 🙂

I would buy one as it is and just have aftermarket leather done, but I have a back issue and it's far too low for me. In a low hatch (if I could drive one comfrotably at my age now), I can handle front wheel drive though, I got very used to that with a couple GTI over the years.

    Already looking at options for after my Leon Cupra and was prob going for a Golf TCR or Clubsport but I'm swaying towards one of these now. Yes it's expensive for a French car that will likely have many problems down the line but I think it's the best looking hot hatch just now and Renault have always done the very best handling hatches. Starting to think it'll be one of these next.

      @@CarSauce I think that's right, but you would have sounded way classier by responding to this by starting with an admission you screwed up. These details do have an impact on how people perceive your knowledge of cars and therefore how valuable your opinion is on them. I enjoyed the video though so keep it up! Just perhaps google car pronunciations in future.

      @@muteroberto thanks Paul, of course will do. The issue lay originally with how Anthony commented on another person's comment suggesting I made no reference to the cars flaws, which I most certainly did - and dismissing someone else's ownership experiences! I think Anthony is just a bit of a pessimist on this video 😉

    • @earth2baz

      It's alcantara not velour. It's a performance car, they put this stuff in supercars too because it has more grip than leather.

    • @teddym2808
      @teddym2808 Год назад

      @@earth2baz And by the way, I don't slip at all in the leather, cause the seats are properly designed to hold you in. It's called being cheap, that's the actual reason Renault sold their performance flagship without leather. The REAL reason. I always had an affinity for fast FWD cars but I couldn't get past that, then again, it's really nice being able to take off even in the wet without slipping in the Cupra. I already took it to stage 1+ (chip and gearbox) and will do stage 2 next year. Already a low 4 second 0-100. Out of the box, so to speak, I got 4.78. The Renault would be able to do the same if it was AWD and simply had more grip in a straight line. But it doesn't.
