COTI or Breach? Which one should you choose?

- This video is intended for the person who owns a PVS-14 and is debating between the COTI or the Breach. I've talked to many folks who are struggling with this decision.
The key points are;
-COTI for a fusion thermal overlay for very rapid thermal detection while using night vision.
-Breach for superior identification and thermal performance.
I hope this video helps those people towards making the best decision for their uses.
If you want the very best in a clip on thermal imager with full warranty & support, then the ECOTI is it, however, it comes with a high price tag.
I have zero affiliation with Euro Optics and bought the COTI at the listed online price. If you're considering the legacy COTI, bear in mind that it is discontinued, hence the low price.
Your videos are reading my mind
lol
@@NITEWALKER-NIGHTVISION Is it just me, or does having the COTI on pretty much just mean you're stuck with having your NVG just a little out of focus?
obligatory comment asking you to review the iray mh25
Good review, and good points made. Hope you can get your hands on an Iray mh25 one of these days and evaluate it. I think it out performs the breach....
Thanks for looking at these.
Am I the only one thinking about machining these adapters and selling them, because 500 seems way to high imo
Very good video. Thank you.

Excellent content.
Thank you 🤙
Great video

Very helpful
Hi @nitewalker. What do I need in tetms of top of the line mounting that would help bridge/overlay a pvs 14 with eventually the armasight thermal moncular that isnt available yet on an ops core bump. As well as what battery compartment/sources would be need to provide extended power to both from the back. Im new to this but I think for hunting a dual pvs and thermal mono with a thermal scope on the gun with a MAWL or Kiji is the most versatile setup.
Good video/information as usual. Still waiting for my bridge/clips. It's been eight weeks, Kristen says no ETA. I'll check back in a month.
Unfortunately, that's correct. No ETA or word from KVC. We honestly have zero info.
@@NITEWALKER-NIGHTVISION Understood. No problem.
The shoe sets will start being shipped in a week or two.
Have you considered building a adapter to use the video signal from the COTI on a monocular oled screen?
Affordable ones (120 to 180$ depending on dealer margin) come in 1024x768.
I think using some gold plated pogo pins in a 3d printed plug will do nicely.
The only custom metal part you would need, is the cupped nut to screw it on.
That’s an interesting idea
The latency would be disorienting and give you motion sickness. Basic analog displays are better for this, but you lose display quality.
@@knd775 I didn't know the COTI uses a analog display internally. Depending on the driver chip a oled is not slower though. It might even be faster depending which phosphor is used in the analog display. Maybe you where thinking about lcd displays?
Would love to see a video on the CQT by steiner and how it could be utilized with NVGs
How would you compare running a breach and PVS 14 on a bridge vs running the COTI on a PVS 14 or other system?
They essentially accomplish different things.
A -14/Breach combo can be very effective but it is not as reliable or effective as a true thermal clip on such as the COTI or ECOTI that provides a true thermal overlay. Where the Breach excels is that if you get a thermal hit, you can use the Breach only to get better identification of what the thermal hit is due to it's superior thermal performance.
The COTI is for very rapid detection that is superior for use with night vision and effective targeting/aiming of IR lasers while using thermal since it's overlaid with NV. You may or may not be able to identify things based on the size, shape, etc. such as yup that's a cow or yup that's a two legged creature, or other times you'll need to close distance, use IR or a thermal scanner, in order to identify what it is.
In a two-way range situation, which device would be more appropriate? Is there significant input lag with either device?
The COTI. It's a true overlay so you can easily target/aim using IR lasers, etc.
Brech all day long baby.👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
Do you think there will be an integral solution? Or is that not possible/practical for some reason I'm not thinking of?
They’re too expensive for non MIL regular folks although some can afford it same as GPNVGs. Most agencies can’t afford them either. It’s a fairly limited retail market so the major manufacturers focus on MIL contracts.
Check this out. Pretty awesome ruclips.net/video/-FMDJDlYb3o/видео.html
I'm curious, is the COTI compatible with PVS-15/18 housings? If so I'm buying a COTI with my stimy lol
It is. There is a -15/-18 specific bracket so make sure you can get it with the kit because they are damn expensive by themselves
Any leads on the KVC bridge? I've had one on order for 4 months and haven't seen one in stock at all.
Unfortunately that’s a negative.
Any industry rumor mills about FLIR coming out with a 640 breach?
Nothing at this time
I really wanna know: how much more do you get when you go with something like a NOX-18 or a MH-25
Those are 640 thermals so quite a bit more. However it depends on the distance. Although 640 is better at shorter ranges they pretty much perform the same. Longer distances the 640 will be superior
@@NITEWALKER-NIGHTVISION would love to see that side by side
@@spldrong I’ll do it if I get my hands on either one. 👍
@@NITEWALKER-NIGHTVISION That's good to know. I'm interested in any thermal monocular that has max positive identification ranges.
So far, I like the RH25 over the NOX, but if the market is going to push past the iRay and give us better detection ranges, I'll wait.
The ECOTI seems (to me) to be a better option than the Jerry (iRay's COTI).
Off the top of my head, a "gucci" option might be the pvs-14 (white phosphor) + ECOTI x RH25. Reason being, you get the huge detection range of the ECOTI and the Positive ID of the RH25 with its 640, while still having a high-quality pvs-14. As long as my brain can transition, this might work for me. :) I also love the flexibility of the RH25 as a standalone or in front of day-optic scope, handheld, etc.
While I love the Breach, and originally wanted it, I'm eager to see what can compete with iRay and round out this kind of setup.
Bottom line is, I want to be able to detect targets as far away as possible, while being able to ethically ID my quarry, while re-using my day optic (EXPS-4 or my LPVO)
Thanks for doing the compare! Reallly helps!
Based on this video, I'd like to pick up the Flir Breach and a PVS 14 along with a helmet mount. Can you tell me where to purchase? There are just too many places that offer it, but too many scams. Plz help!

Ive read some negative comments re: QA/QC issues out of FLIR recently and a lack of customer service which has kept me from dropping the money on Breach. Are these overblown?
In my experience yes it’s overblown. I’ve personally owned two FLIR devices (PTS233 & the Breach) with zero issues. I’ve dealt with FLIR support in aiding customers and they were on top of it and took care of the customers.
It’s true...I had problems w my Breach immediately. Had to send it in. Months to get it back. Didn’t work the second time...had to send it back...and WAIT for a replacement breach for another 4 months. The only thing I can say is the Breach they replaced my original one with has soft buttons as opposed to stiff ones. My replacement Breach has been solid up to this point, but buyer beware.
@@marcuslaker5876 That sucks to hear. Hopefully those issues have been resolved and their turn around is quicker. So far, I’ve only had or seen good customer service.
Question, I don't think you anyone could answer this better..
Whats the most flexible/best rig, in your opinion, for combining two Pvs 14s, I don't want to get binos as I want a tube for both my wife and myself..
If you don’t need QD functionally I’d go with the TNVC NPBM-D. Reason being that the locating rings serve as a lanyard of sorts, in that if the screw loosened up, they aren’t going to fall off. However, measure your infinity lock rings! We’ve discovered an issue where the diameters aren’t consistent. The measurements are on the product page.
Now, if you want QD functionality, or semi QD functionality, there are several options available varying in price. On the high end is KVC but they are seriously backed up and it’s anyone’s guess when they’ll be readily available. That leaves Wilcox next in price, then the Integrated Components D-14 bridges.
An alternative to consider is going with a Mod3B. It’ll give you a proper binocular but with the ability to split one off.
@@NITEWALKER-NIGHTVISION do a video feature length of the mod 3. that what i want. asap as my 1400 comes through. what are the lead times for l3 thin film green tnvc website only shows lead times for white
@@oliverrouse2593 If I get my hands on one I'll for sure do a video. Lead time on filmed GP is on the product page. Lead times can fluctuate and especially now with the high level of demand so I don't want to post it in the comments. The best bet is to check with us when you're ready so you get the most current info.
Where can you get the COTI + eye adapter for $3000?
Lol idk
Can you put a Codi on a PS28-3P? I do sometimes use it as a monocular.
It'll work if the objective lens is close to the same diameter as as a PVS-14 or Anvis objective. At least in terms of using the adapter. Otherwise, you'd have to DIY it in place with a rubber band, etc.
How can I order from online
How does the coti affect passive aiming?
As long as it is mounted up (going towards 12 o’clock) it shouldn’t be an issue for most.
Otherwise, if it’s going towards 6 o’clock it may interfere with getting on the gun. This isn’t an issue with most binos but it can be with monoculars due to the housing (battery compartment) limiting where you can mount it.
You can adjust the RDS brightness levels against the COTI display brightness and thermal signatures in the background.
Is it possible to use IR lights & lasers when using a PVS-14 GEN 3 WPT in unison with the COTI (fusion system) ?
I've looked around and haven't really found a definitive answer. My main purpose for the COTI would be to use it in OUTLINE MODE where I can possibly use both systems to their highest levels of utility in my opinion while still having the advantage of infrared lights and lasers. Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Yes, you can see the IR pointer/illuminator while you’re using the NV device.
@@NITEWALKER-NIGHTVISION Excellent. Thank you for the definitive answer.
you know any night vision with integrated thermal?
I didn't even know that was a thing
I have a question for COTI's and eCOTI's, if I'm running RNVG's do I only need one Coti to get the thermal overlay or would I need a unit on each tube?
You only need one
...the COTI, the E-COTI and the CO-YOTE all making their appearance in this video... ; ) hat to listen carefully in order not to mix things up
Lol
What resolution Breach are you using?
There’s only one Breach model
What is the house of the actinblack made of?
It’s a durable polymer material
The COTI is WAY more expensive, because you still need the NV to attach it to.
Good point. I should have made it more clear that this video is intended for guys who have a PVS-14 and are debating between adding a COTI or getting a Breach. I’ll add it in the video description. 👍
Can you see a vis/ir laser with a breach?
No
Can't see a red dot either because thermals can't see through glass. You can use a red dot on a pistol and a pvs14 will be pretty easy to use with it. Considering most people don't have like 20k to drop it seems like the best option to me. And if you ever do get the funds add an ecoti
Why are these being discontinued?
Because of the ECOTI. These devices ultimately are made for the military and current contracts are for the ECOTI
@@NITEWALKER-NIGHTVISION Do you think the coti could attach to the lobed anvis? I’m assuming focus would be locked when attached as well.
@@Slipknotfanatic89 It’ll work but you have to mount it on the lens and flip the bracket around
@@Slipknotfanatic89 Also will need the rubber spacer
Pitch: a smartwatch screen reflected for a heads-up display transparent lens for one of the tubes. can see a compass, map, speech to text messages, all hands free. you should work with an Android device or app developer to sort out the screen specs to display correctly.
The COTI image looks like the same image from the US military's new night vision systems. Maybe that's why it was discontinued and is primarily for the military. In my opinion.
The original COTI AN/PAS-29A was replaced by a newer version with a 640 sensor which is the AN/PAS-29B aka ECOTI. The ECOTI is available to civilians.
If all thermal companies put only black and white screens they could get much better screen performance.
I know this is an older video and hopefully get an answer. My question is for doing goon stuff lol. Run and gun kind of things. I have a single pvs14. Would it make sense to get a bridged thermal like a stinger or like a clip on thermal to my pvs? I’m not looking to clip anything to the riffle, but I also wouldn’t mind having detection and evasions… superiority.
Run and gun get a clip on thermal.
Head mounted thermal (HMT) IMHO is best if you are doing things where you need to find stuff like hunting.
Otherwise, I’d start with a HMT capable thermal monocular on a neck lanyard. You can get the bridge and accessories later.
