That's Tex Beneke whistling! He was a famous saxophone player in his own right. He's quite a whistler and singer too!

This was the cool music- the equivalent of rock music today, for the youth of the 30s and 40s. Excellent stuff, and as hard as they may try, today's big bands (trying to emulate this classic sound), just don't have the production, groove, sincerity, style, and soul! It was a completely different time!! Today's big bands (trying to sound like this), sound as though they are just going through the motions; are grossly over-produced in the studio, sounding stale, using too much reverb, treble and techniques that can't possibly recapture the sound and feeling of that unique era. Not to mention young musicians in said big band tribute orchestras, not sounding as though they are very enthusiastic or energetic about playing for old folks at retirement homes and seniors dances. The original big bands from the 30s and 40s were great for those old folks when they were in their teens, twenties and thirties back then. But the tribute big bands now can't possibly capture that great sound. Thankfully, there are still albums and some movies (like the above) that still exist!

    Introduction:
Hi there Tex, what you say
    Step aside partner,
    it's my day
Bend an ear and listen to my version
Of a really solid Tennessee excursion
    Lyrics:
    Pardon me, boy
Is that the Chattanooga choo choo?
    Track twenty-nine
Boy, you can gimme a shine
    Can You afford
To board a Chattanooga choo choo
    I've got my fare
And just a trifle to spare
You leave the Pennsylvania Station 'bout a quarter to four
Read a magazine and then you're in Baltimore
    Dinner in the diner
    Nothing could be finer
Than to have your ham an' eggs in Carolina
When you hear the whistle blowin' eight to the bar
Then you know that Tennessee is not very far
    Shovel all the coal in
    Gotta keep it rollin'
Woo, woo, Chattanooga there you are
    There's gonna be
A certain party at the station
    Satin and lace
I used to call "funny face"
    She's gonna cry
Until I tell her that I'll never roam
    So Chattanooga choo choo
    Won't you choo-choo me home?
    Chattanooga choo choo
    Won't you choo-choo me home?

      Прекрасный фильм. В 1941г. когда
он вышел и появился в Союзе, был
      фурор, ходили по несколько раз.
      Чу-ча здорово, танец двух негров
      поразил.

Happiest music I've ever heard. Along with I Got A Gal. Carefree. Everything's working in your life. Things swing. Man, I'm jealous. And homesick for a time I never lived in.

The guys on bass and the drums on Chattanooga were a bit extra high. Enjoyed every second.

"FEG Alain" hits the nail - unsurpassed! The 'new' GMO under Wil Salden ist really good - but i prefere the 'old' recordings. Unfortunately, Salden has No Tex Beneke - AND worse --> NO Paula Kelly! :( shes acoustically (and visually!! ) a real asset!

The GMO in Sweden is fairly close to Glenn’s sound but it’s just not it.
