    Max, its been cool to see you come such a long way along with Jeff! The thing is, although i'm 48, and have remodeled several shops and homes of my own, I found myself learning more as you were! Jeff is a great contractor, and because of him, wanting to start my own company, all because of you guys! So thank you for the great years of learning along side you!

      Thanks for the comment. I am on an"on camera" guy but got out of my comfort zone because I thought the message could help empower people. If you end up building it let us know how it goes! Only thing I can suggest is rebar or some sort of re-enforcement in your concrete pad. The shed is still 100% and its been 3.5 years but the pad cracked quite a bit. Thats my only suggestion and best of luck!

    Hey! This story is absolutely great, and this channel was a great help in getting me started on home reno. I started at 17 and finished my mother's attic (Which served as my room) then finished the basement, put in a bathroom, and now I'm working on an addition to the house before I move out! Excellent work Matt. I’m slowly working on my house renovations. Going to have to renovate my garage due to the fact I have the same problem. The bedroom is cold in the winter. What was the cost for that particular Reno & what materials were used ? I need to budget for it. NOT putting them in a credit card !!

    • @SubdivisionAuto
      @SubdivisionAuto 2 года назад +1

      Thanks Bill. That reno was about 1500 canadian. But that Includes the garage door. The old door was just metal but the new ones are insulated at r6.5 or something like that. It's not much but it was enough to stop the frost. Also getting rid of air leaks was huge. Trick to that job is leaving an airspace between the drywall and your insulation. I used 2x4s so that i could add pot lots after. Then under the 2x4 I used 2inch foam that's r 7 or something. Not a huge insulation value but just having that air space and a little insulation made a huge difference. Also upon inspection I noticed the electrical box under the light had zero insulation around it so no wonder it was cold upstairs. Anyways even before doing all this I insulated the rest of the garage and dropped the roof to the same height. The sheet of drywall on the roof near the door had zero insulation on top. So all this work made a huge difference. Only way to make it better would to add a heat sound in the garage but the room is much warmer.

      Jeff is the expert so he would have a better answer but personally I would say your good. This house is an 82 I doubt the tech was much different. From what I've seen the 70s houses are usually pretty solid.

    I like this channel but I dont watch it as much because its a bunch of experienced contractors saying "oh this is easy", but they dont address any of the problems noobs are likely to run into, all these videos are impractical. These projects take way too long for someone who works a full time job and doesnt have experience doing this stuff. Tools? So many tool are one time use, or cost too much to rent; you need a truck to move a lot of this heavy stuff around, what if you have a KIA? I mean really none of these vidoes are truly practical for every day people. This channel is more for people who are already doing this kind of work in their backyard farm.

    Be careful renovating can also kill the price of your house. For example: You’re house was build in the 60/70, a lot of older people want to live in such houses. You renovate it, and higher the price, young people can’t effort it anyways and older people don’t like them. Loose loose situation. (I am an Ingenieur) I know what i am talking about.

      In 1962 my family moved into a newly built ranch house in a great neighborhood that we lived in for the rest of my childhood. While the finishes they chose for this house wouldn't be my personal choices, I would choose it over a 60's look any day. 70's architecture was even worse. I don't know anyone who would rather live in 60's or 70's house than one that has been updated. I am not an ingenier; I'm what you would call an older person.

    Funny title. Most remodeling jobs cost more than they add to the value of the house. Remodels do not make money. The numbers are published everywhere. The returrn on investment is always given as a percentage and it is usually less than 100%. RRemodels do NO make mony. No money in the bank.

      I dont know man all I know is they made our lives a lot better, had an idea to do a renovation for 30k and instead got 4 projects done instead of one. But thats just my experience, yours may be different. Also its not just remodel in the title its DIY remodel. So not just remodelling but doing it yourself will make money in my mind. But its also differnt depending where you may live. CHeers

    Had to give this one a dislike for the misleading title. Not everyone has the aptitude or vision to successfully DIY, regardless of experience level.
    Recently in the market to purchase, saw plenty of DIY rennovation & renodel mistakes that led me to pass on several properties. And those houses are still listed months later, even after owners dropped asking. As a recent buyer, I didn't want to immediately gut & rebuild a poorly-designed kitchen or replace a garage or bathroom just because a seller tried to go the discount route & expected to profit from their DIY. I ended up buying a dated home that only needs a remodel, and nothing immediate. Luckily, my market isn't a major city, so it isn't hot.
    DIY with correct guidance (i.e. Jeff) can be profitable in the right market, but DIY misfires can lower home value or prolong how long a property is listed before selling.

      I think youve slightly misunderstood the point of the video in relation to the title. Yes you are correct about what you said this can happen in instances but the point of this is not "Remodel and youll make money". its "Remodel and youll SAVE money". We had a 30k budget on our kitchen and we planed to fully renovate the space. Instead we spend under 10k and remodelled thus saving us 20k plus. Because of this we had the ability to complete 4 projects instead of 1. Hope that clears it up. Cheers
