I wasn't following IRL or CART closely at all at the time, but my understanding is that teams had to choose one configuration for both Brands Hatch and Lausitz. Probably a cost-saving measure, but I can't imagine it saved more than (literally) a few dollars.
It was borderline because Dominguez blocked one way then came back halfway across the track again. Bourdais did the same at the end. So it was the CART officials who again are incompetent. My guess is that they didn't want anymore controversy with taking a win off someone after the race had finished. They were already in dire straits.
Watching Alex finish the race was magic.
And with competitive last laps, despite his disability. Amazing! 👍👍
