Thank you so much! I loved this tutorial. Its "bite sized" length was nice and I like the fact that you actually explained a specific technique. Most animation tutorials say draw a line here, here and here but, you actually explained why and elaborated on how you can use the technique in different ways.
I literally cannot thank you enough for how much this helped me. For years I’ve been trying to figure out how to animate a tail, and today I finally did it. Thank you so much!!
I'm a young self-thought artist and animator and i search about how to make smooth flows and when i saw this i learn how! thank you gor this useful video you created uwu (sorry for my bad spelling and grammar qwq)
Dang I needed this like 2 days ago when I was animating a tail! Now that I know the principles behind it the next time I do it, should be easier! Glad to have found your channel, subbed!
Very nice. I would like to see you create a detailed tutorial of a waving flag. I understand what you say about the wave principle, but, as a beginner, it is very difficult to actually apply it when trying to animate, for example, a waving flag or a stormy sea. I am sure you could make a brilliant tutorial of such things.
That's a great idea. Maybe I'll do a "Part 2" exploring those types of things in more depth. Would be a good learning experience for me, since I'm still learning!
I set out on youtube for exactly this not knowing at all what it would be called. I'm so happy searching "wavy lines animation tutorial" brought me straight here to a video whose existence I accurately guessed at. Thank you!
very good tutorial! Easy to understand and explains all the basic stuff! I have been studying 2d anime and one of the first exercise I have done was a flag animation.
Thanks! Oh cool, are you going to school for animation or teaching yourself? I love that anime has stayed focused on 2d animation, even though western animated films gravitate towards CGI. It's nice to have variety.
oooooo this is such a perfect lesson!!!! Thanks to this video, hundreds of my followers on DA LOVE my GIFS! they call them "so in depth", and "will feeling"!! Thanks so much for this vid!
I animated them that way frame by frame. It would be smoother and less jittery to pan a single drawing across the screen, which now that I think about it would have been a faster option to use.
@@MicahBuzanANIMATION Great, man! Did you also listen to my newer tracks? I really want to learn how to draw, but I can't find a start. I have a wacom graphics tablet here, just collecting dust. I need (free?) tutorials for the absolute beginner, how to draw cartoon characters, simple coloring and shading, nothing fancy, but learning babysteps by babysteps, how to get used to perspective, proportions, and so on! Any tips for me?
I'm animating on Flipaclip (An Animation app) And I'm a Beginner trying to Improve On animating And I'm trying to Do This Wave Principle of Clothes, Long Hair, Dresses, Curtains And Flags.
hey i just started studying animation and just wanted to say that you are one of the people that i look up to and isnpire me thank you for your videos . ps: your animation videos are my favorite thing to watch when i get high
Woah this is wild and I am not even an animator! As a fan of sound design it makes me wonder what would happen if you animated to a saw wave or something strange 🤔
If you are confused on how to draw a wave use a pipe cleaner (I think that's how its called) and fold it to a position you want it really helps..well for me
This is one of those things that's easy to understand when it's being said to you (it's explained fantastically in this video) But when you're sat there, putting it into practice, it feels like a goddamn logic puzzle. Especially when the subject is moving in a more 3D-feeling space.
Oh my gosh thankyou so much for making this video its really helped me make more realistic tail movements!!! thankyou so much!!! would it be different for the movement of ears?

me : This dosent even look like a tail
haha we all struggle with something. I can't really draw humans so I usually animate trippy stuff.

unless you're professionally animating
Yea but idk how even to animate a wavy line

Thanks! Super happy to hear it helped you :)
One way I remember this is this: every part of the object/limb hits a certain high point before relaxing/ starting the loop over again.
That is a really helpful tip.

I’m watching this because I’m making an animation of l’manburg and I can’t animate flags flowing. this actually really helped me! Thankyou :)
This is the first tutorial I found about a year ago that showed me how to make a proper tail movement thank you so much for making this!

you should do a detailed tutorial on cloth wave movement like in anime
Great suggestion. Thank you!
No problem man
1:39 if you pay attention it looks like the waves are just sliding through the screen...
I animated them that way frame by frame. It would be smoother and less jittery to pan a single drawing across the screen, which now that I think about it would have been a faster option to use.
