- Reaction To Classic Australian Ads (Part 4)
This is my reaction to classic Australian television adverts. These were interesting videos and include adverts for Tourism Australia, Paul Hogans shrimp on the barbie advert, Carlton Draught, I Am Australian and more.

Yes the Paul Hogan ad was targeted at Americans. That’s why he said ‘shrimp’ and not ‘prawn’. We never say shrimp lol.
A shrimp here is a small person.
@@zalired8925 😅 not something you'd say if you had a shrimp over for a barbie!
@@zalired8925 😂
Makes me remember how lucky I am to be born and bred an Aussie
Amen.
I just came back from living in the US. I can’t express how grateful I am to be an Australia, and back in Australia.
@@daleglenny8253 Welcome home mate 🥳🇦🇺
Yes! Exactly ☺
One very proud Aussie here - these ads make me feel so proud to be an Aussie and realise how lucky I am to have been born in Australia. “I still call Australia home” ads for Qantas always make me tear up and cry .
Those ads really were great to watch. I am proud to be Australian and feel so lucky to be surrounded by such beautiful flora, fauna and landscapes. 🇦🇺 I Still Call Australia Home always hits the heartstrings.
I remember all these ads. I could never and would never be anything but Australian, it's a lifestyle, a love, a spiritual connection with land and every plant, animal and person here ❤🇦🇺❤
I'm not the sort of Aussie to feel patriotic but these ads certainly put a big smile on my face!
Me too! I haven’t even seen half of these ads 👍🇦🇺
Fuck man,it made me tear up!!!!
They took me back to being a kid in the 80s.
The VB and Carlton Draught ads are iconic over here.
And Tooheys!
Ahh yes, I shed a tear. We really do have a beautiful country and these ads swell my chest with pride.
Those ads definitely pull out the patriotic spirit .
Watching your face, as you watch the ads is the best!
As am Aussie living overseas they make me homesick. I bawled like a baby though many of them.
Grateful Aussie here. So glad i live in the lucky country. 🇭🇲
I love Chris Hemsworth! He’s the best example of a great Australian, funny, witty, good actor, great husband and father. 🇦🇺😜👍
Loved it!! Made me feel awesome and quite patriotic. Despite all the crap here at the moment, we really do have a fantastic country. We all are Australian!!!!!!
Thanks, I enjoyed that, and I love your balance of commentary and appreciation - you get it just right by instinct. (Aussies shorten things remember? Adverts = Ads 😄) Cheers!
That last add is my favourite! I remember it being played during the 2004 Olympics. I am Australian is such a beautiful song. It's a shame the video didn't show the whole add though :(
Those old QANTAS ads were damn good!
Yep, we never say shrimp in Oz. Hogan said that for the American market. I remember a lot of these ads. The Victoria Bitter ads used the same music for years. It's iconic 😊 Any ad that uses I Still Call Australia Home makes me teary. Tenterfield Saddler is another one that turns on the waterworks. RIP Peter Allen ❤
The ad companies don't seem to have these huge budgets anymore, what a shame! Some beautiful ads, massive productions! I love the Qantas ads - too much of the money goes to the top management now! I've never seen the Calton Draft one! John Mellion (the Victoria Bitter ad) was an actor friend of my father's! Never seen the Chris Hemsworth one either, or the next ad - there is "nothing like Australia"! Great update of "we are Australian", fantastic! Wow, these are so good! 👍🙋
Apparently not such big pay checks for Qantas CEO’s any more…now they’ve hire a woman for the job. Don’t tell me there’s no glass ceiling. It can’t be performance based. Alan Joyce ran the company and it’s reputation into the ground.
The beer ads are always great and yes, the Carlton Draft ads are always epic!
The music for the VB ad is one of those that you hear the first few bars of, and you know exactly what it is! (For me anyway!)
What about this one. ruclips.net/video/0Xm0HTIf2JY/видео.html
That is the ad the music was originally for, 1964 I believe
And this one. ruclips.net/video/XXHgDWWtVvE/видео.html
the first couple of notes is plenty
All the “I Still Call Australia Home” Qantas ads should be done by the Australian Youth Choirs (have been several different choirs over the last 30 years)…every ad they have ever done has been amazing. The Celeb ones are not as heart stirring. Most of our tourism ads are also amazing….they make us appreciate the wonderful land that we live in.
My choir sang some of the vocals for the "still call australia home" original ad for qantas back in the 90's. So my voice is in the background of that somewhere lol. Was an awesome experience for a young kid.
Get teary, especially the Qantas adverts. The very talented Peter Allen wrote that song (look him up, he was "discovered" by Judy Garland, married Liza Minelli and wrote the most heart wrenching songs for himself and a lot of other singers).
This was a great collection. Patriotic inspiring at our natural beauty and our awesome way of life. Not much drama, not much Police action, minimal shootings (we were happy to give up our gun rights for the sake of the whole damn nation), and also happy to allow random breath testing to keep our roads free of drunk drivers and the issues that causes. We are a happy and safe place to live, with a great relatively free health care system for the good of all - funded by our Govt and our taxation. We have 4 weeks vacation leave per year plus public holidays which enables us to get out and see our beautiful country - and yes we do refer to many as mate, and we do say G'day! Thanks for the vid and the reaction. Come on over mate, you won't regret it!
The second ad with the little boy singing in his language is my favourite. QANTAS made one almost every year but they stopped for Covid. They are still making them because they have always treated Peter Allen’s song with respect, the scenery is magic. There is a 14 minute video on here of all of them except the new one. They are all so beautiful and QANTAS do not do anything except put their name at the end. We know who they are.
They always used the Australian girl’s and boys choir’s. I got two phone calls one day telling me my youngest had been chosen for the State and National Choir’s. I told her when I picked her up. Her response, “oh Mama, tell them to get real. I have to go to school, I am Triple Threat in the Australian Broadway Chorus and I belong to David Jaanz’s voice school. Where would they like me to fit them in? I have already fired my agent for getting me a TV show.” She was 11.😂 Thank you.
Proud, always proud. It is home and it always will be no matter where I have been or go. No matter how great that place was, the best part is coming in to land at home. Australia always calls us home and you don’t have to be Australian to become Australian.
Pretentious much? The kid too.
Kalau lagau ya
love seeing aus tourist ads, its interesting to see what we are showing other countries to get them to visit!
For a few years we used to make some bloody good beer ads………..
Heres one. ruclips.net/video/XXHgDWWtVvE/видео.html
And another. ruclips.net/video/0Xm0HTIf2JY/видео.html
The ads by the Mojo Agency tap into the culture, especially the cricket and beer ones. They did a few of these. Pretty sure they also did the Qantas as well. They have a channel here.
We Are One was so awesome to sing in choir. One of my fave memories from childhood. ❤
These are pretty epic for sure.
I know Australia isn't perfect, but I am proud to be an Aussie:)
It is perfect hahaha!!
@@ingridclare7411 he he
Made me feel awfully proud and patriotic 🇦🇺 😊 not bias but Australia is diverse and beautiful
I am another lucky Aussie and watching those ads again makes me feel so proud all over again, I am even luckier than a lot of Aussies as I am a country girl. The last ad you watched has a song that has almost become another National anthem after 'Advance Australia Fair' ( official anthem) and 'I still call Australia home' ( unofficial anthem).
I love how you don’t ramble on like other RUclipsrs. Straight to the point 🍺🍺
2nd ad gave me chills, always does.
YAS 🙌🙌 The Telstra version of ‘We are One’ originally by The Seekers.
'The lucky country' rings true, we all feel blessed to wake up, go to a fair workplace, know if we get sick we will survive, celebrate over our soil and serve as the meeting place for cultures around the world 🥰🥰
I’ve never seen half of these ads and I was born in Aus. Yes we had TV lol. Was I out riding my blue Malvern Star bike with a bell and a basket or playing cubbies in the trees out the back yard eating vegemite sangers ? 😂
They don't really make me feel proud.
I'm already proud.
We know what we got and we how lucky we are.
I remember an anti ad for VB:
“You can get it riding a cow,
Matter a fact I’ve got it now, VD” 😂😂
The Paul hogan show is right up your alley a legend of a show
The VB ads were hilarious. They were just thinking up things that rhyme. And John Mellion's voice (from Crocodile Dundee) so dramatic. "Matter of fact, I've got it now".
The Carlton Draught skydiving ad was filmed with 30 skydivers that was made to look like 300 with CGI, so it wasn't all computer generated, they did indeed have a lot of people jumping out of a plane for the ad.
I Still Call Australia Home was written by Peter Allen in 1980, about exptriates' longing for home; always listed in the top 100 iconic Australian songs, used by Qantas ads which stirs nostalgic patriotism.
The "I Still Call Australia Home" ad series for Qantas Airways has featured three Australian children's choirs, because Qantas sponsored them. Not sure if they still do now though. The ad series started in 1987 and has been running since then with newer versions of it each time.
They definitely make me feel more patriotic 😊 we are blessed to live in this beautiful country ❤❤❤
I loved this so much. Sitting here drinking Carlton Draught and singing along. Thanks mate.
lol, same here
I still think the Barossa Valley red right hand commercial is one of the best👍🏼 . Yet it's always overlooked.
Being Australian is amazing. Best country in the world, according to many that live here. Always love these ads.
Tens of millions were spent on some ad campaigns with internet, that stopped.
There was a tongue that flips and flops to bring a beer back for the sleeeper dragging beer home and into mouth like a baby bottle. Mixed feelings because we all know our tongues have tasted like they’ve been licking the road when we wake up🇦🇺👏🏼👍🏼🍺.
Your not the only one who would like to go back to the 80's and for me the 70's. When you could surf with just your mates ,camp on the beach with a fire and catch a bucket of fish to supplement the week's groceries. When the internet tech didn't rule our lives( yes l do see the irony🤓) Simpler days and happier
Love them. Aussie to the core. That's us down under.
My husband was in the the skydiving Carlton Draught ad!
The "shrimp" bit makes most Aussies cringe. Great ads including some I'd never seen.
Writen by Peter Allen ( married to Liza Minelli) it's based on " I Still Call Australia Home"- a beautiful , patriotic sond for all people who live or want to live here. You've lived in Melbourne , you know about beer etc. Matt I'm sure you'd love it here. You have a good sense of humour - a must Downunder. You'll do okay. I guess it's your job keeping you in Malaysia- been there, not much fun. Like Singapore they take things seriously.
Definitely love the tourism ads, There's Nothing Like Australia is a good one, I Still Call Australia Home and I Am Australian (any version for both songs) always nailing it though.
Dam how good would it be if the son of Dundee was actually a movie, that'd funny as. 😊
I am an Aussie & when I actually see what a GREAT country I come from makes me bloody PROUD to be an TRUE BLUE DINKUM Aussie 😊!
I don’t know if RUclips would allow it but the Australian 80s adds about AIDS and condoms are worth a look!
If it’s not on, it’s not on!
He has seen the Grim Reaper one in another ad reaction, I think.
The Qantas ad is sung in one of the 5 languages of the Torres strait.
I have to admit I'd never seen that particular Carlton draught ad,
Neither have I. I've seen all the others.
The Optus Australian Open 2012 ad is worth a look
Mate I'm so lucky to be Australian. Live in a very patriotic family. As I'm in a defence family. But alot of us Aussies love Australia.
G'day mate , i'm a boomer and i remember them all, Oz is truely another planet , to be born here you've already won the lottery!!
Yes, because America calls them shrimp, but to us, shrimp are the tiny ones you buy frozen from Asia. We call them prawns. “Shrimp” is also an Aussie slang word for short or small.
You can usually tell when the ads are from 70s and 80s because of the big moustaches and men wearing very short "stubbies" shorts! 😂
I've never seen the last two ads.
Goosebumps! 🎉
Shrimp on the bloody barby... SERIOUSLY... We don't even call them shrimp here.
The one with Chris Hemsworth was a Super Bowl ad.
I don't particularly want to be 'patriotic', I just think we are a lucky country, and I love the fact that we encompass SO many nationalities from all over the world, has made this land an interesting place to live. But I have great respect for our original Australians that cared for this continent for so long.
Look up the seeker's I am Australian
The guy who starts the song wrote it
They are the originals and by fare the best
It's our history in a song
Should be our anthem everyone included
Peter allen was a legend.beautifull song.
I am from Australia and it is the best country in the world.
Love your channel mate, great videos. We need you to get your ass to Australia because as an Aussie born and bred I can't wait to see your reaction to the real thing. Like everything it is always better in the flesh. See you when you get here. 🥂
How to make an Australian tear up:
Play this song. . .
Yes, the shrimp thing was for Americans. We have never called them "shrimp". They are prawns. Of course the ads are designed to evoke that feeling of longing for the beauty of the country. It is a good place. There are bad things, too. But in general if you are relatively middle class, you can have the best in the world here. One thing that is never shown, and it irritates me, is the snow. Why don't you do some videos re the Australian snowfields?
funny thing shrimp and prawns arent even the same animal.
@@DrMedicsGameSurgery That is a technicality, and the crustaceans that we have over here, that look 95% the same, they have heaps of little legs, you rip the head off and peel the body, and they are bent and turn orange when cooked. We don't have shrimp over here, but I guess they are our version. I reckon if you cooked and peeled one of each for a Pepsi Challenge - you would be hard-pressed telling the difference.
@@muzzaball they have different flavour, i find prawn to be stronger tasting
@@DrMedicsGameSurgery They are both cockroaches of the sea.
Makes me so proud to be an Australian.
I think the most Australian thing you can say about any of them is "I know that person" at some point.
Those vb ads are legend
Hearing I still call Australia home sung in a native Aussie tongue brought tears to my eyes. It was so very beautiful! Our native people are so amazing and I’m so happy to see hear their language being represented even if it is just one of the hundreds spoken throughout our wonderful country.
That qantas add really was awesome!
All of the young peoples voices were beautiful!
Edit: the video where everyone sang “There’s nothing like Australia” had me crying, seeing Melbourne in the background of the people rowing and seeing the twelve apostles really brought a tear to my eyes. I love our great country so much and seeing this video just made me so happy. Knowing I live about an hour away from both of these wonderful places makes me so happy. Australia is amazing and I feel so blessed to have been born here.
3:27 I saw a guy at Supanova cosplaying as this guy 😂
I am Australian and my wife's family is Scottish. We spent 3 weeks in Scotland in 2016. Now that is just stunning. All you need is marketing like ours. Our choice for regular holidays... not Australia - we go to Thailand for many reasons and one being how expensive it is here.
I knew one of the girls in the throw another shrimp on the barbie add, she was a top chic.
yep we can blame Paul for the shrimp on the barbie! (we don't call them shrimp but prawns)
Ads here n there but the songs always give me tingles
There's another one to that pad add he plays with the cat with tampon mousie mousie mousie!
My Great, Great, Great grandmother was transported to Sydney. Innocent of theft of course.😊😮😢❤
The one thing that puzzled me was why ads targeted at Americans were shown on Australian TV.
F sake. Those bloody Aussies really know how to do ads. Love ‘em all
Ohh the children chior and the quantas ad the only 90s ad I could stand 😂
as an aussie i can inform you that the only bad add is one the featuring PAUL HOGAN Due to it spreading misinformation to americans about what we call prawns!
yeah id forgotten half of these im australian born in 77 so was prob in primary school. a few classics in there. poor brits imprisoning us here hehe
Yeah I think there's 3 or 4 versions now of the Qantas ad and I still like the 1st one the best. The one shown I'd say could of been the 2nd one. The one with all the celebs is the last one they have done.
Come to Aus Matt you will love it. I remember all these adds
I can’t listen to “I Still Call Australia Home” unless it’s been sung by Peter Allen.
of course QANTAS said yes we will have a minute of kids singing before we show an A380 on screen. (i thought i heard this on a QANTAS flight before)
Your humour is changing.
Keep telling ya, search Baby wipes number threes, funniest ad I’ve ever seen😊
Oi MSTV.
Come down for a visit cobber.
You won't regret it.
Shrimps and Prawns are different things
Shrimp on the barbie was wholly for Yanks...
