The slip slop slap ads were in response to us having the highest counts of skin cancer in the world. generations of Aussies have grown up with that jingle playing constantly during morning cartoons so much that actually doing the whole procedure is second nature. It was a very effective means of educating from an early age on preventing skin cancer. The ads were also followed up with a no hat no play policy in most government funded schools.
You need to see the McCaine "the rains are here" ad, Cadbury "wouldn't it be nice", Cottees Cordial ads, Qantas "still call Australia home", "Where the bloody hell are you" tourism ad, the "happy little vegemites" ad. There are probably a few more great ones, but these are the ones I remember atm.
And, be aware… the current Australia Prime Minister (known as the Liar From The Shire) was the ad man who came up with the ‘Where the bloody hell are you?’ Campaign. It was a failure… and part of the reason he was sacked by the Australian Tourism Board. He was also sacked by the NZ Tourist board too… and now he’s our Prime Minister…. Sigh.
Bananas are full of energy. It's common for new diabetics to have a banana thinking theyre being good to their dietary restrictions and then they end up in a hyper because of all the sugar.
The Rhonda & Katut ad series for AAMI continued and the couple married. They recently revived the characters (who now have a baby) as part of the government vaccination campaign.
The actor in the bank ads is Genevieve Morris. She is great as Carol in the No Activity series (Australian version).
We all love that bananas ad! Banana muffins etc, which is why they weren’t all bananas.
Reminds every 80’s / 90’s kid of their childhood.
'Slip, Slop, Slap' has to be the most remarkable ad campaign Australia has ever seen. I don't know a single person of any age group who can't sing the entirety of this jingle.
the funny thing is, I was with ANZ until i decided to go into a branch one day and was basicicly treated like the customers at 'a Bank'
That Paul's milk video that was about to play is one of the most iconic Australian ads ever, there's also a whole lot of RACQ ads that are classic
7:10 "Are you asking if the ENGLISH came up with the ENGLISH ALPHABET?" I'm laughing so hard. Also I don't know either.
The Rhonda ads were great. Americans often cannot understand really good narrative humour that makes fun of itself and where characters are flawed and are somewhat tragic and ironic, delivering the kind of humour that requires honest self-awareness and the ability to accept and laugh at one's own shortcomings and failures. America likes stereotypical fantasy characters that deliver sarcasm and fast-delivery of one-liners accompanied by a laugh track that tells them when to laugh. This is why your country always says it's no.1, and the rest of the world pisses itself at you (not with you, because you actually believe the BS you're fed and we know you do, which is so funny because it makes the US look like a funny retard that thinks he's top of the class but shits his pants every day and tells everyone it's chocolate - and thinks we're buying it despite the smell of poop filling the room. Other than that, you guys are great. :) And take comfort in the fact that you're definitely top 30 overall in the country rankings, top 50 on the outside.
As an Aussie, I would like to say that ANZ stands for Australian and New Zealand (Banking Group). Just in case y’all didn’t know 🤷♀️
30 years for home loans is the highest most all banks go for paying off your mortgage. You can go less years of course.
Zeta (Zéta or Zēta) is the Greek letter on which the letter Z (zed or zee) is based. The variance in pronunciation was shipped to America with the Irish and Scottish immigrants. While the hard e died out in the UK, it flourished in the USA…. not sure why.
Man I haven't seen those bank ads in ages. I legit was laughing
Great now I'm going to have the banana boat song stuck in my head for another decade 😡.
Slip slop slap has been expanded in recent years to be slip on a shirt slop on sunscreen slap on a hat and slide on a pair of sunglasses as Australia is the sun cancer capital of the world (not particularly a ‘best of award’ we want) I’m 40 and this has been very significant as part of growing up in Australia almost every Australian knows the danger of the sun, the new banana advert is far better than the old one
We enjoy watching guys keep the content coming check out some of the PSA commercials
And my name starts with a Z the Zee/Zed argument was literally constant growing up I was always in trouble for saying Zee because “it’s the American way” be it at home or at school someone pulled me up on it often
The guys should check out some TAC ads

"Are you asking me if the English came up with the English alphabet?" 🤣 You guys are insane 🤣
There is no such thing as the English alphabet
@@mathewkelly9968 yes there is. The English alphabet is one of the many permutations of a Latin script from about 1200-1400 years ago with some additional Greek. It currently consists of 26 letters down from 29 100 odd years ago. Other variations of the Latin script can be found in most European countries with the greatest variations in Scandinavian and Serbo-Croatian areas.
It is the removal of one of these letters, 'thorn', which was sort of a backwards y, and pronounced 'th' which has led to the common mistake of "ye olde" or "hear ye" which was originally pronounced "the old" and "hear thee".
The question was why US pronounce Z as Zee while English etc. pronounce it as Zed.
Probably the same reason US people tend to pronounce or spell many words differently to other regions and that is because all languages are living things that are constantly evolving.
P.S. guess who need an elective for her degree and chose one that looked easy :).
Bank loans here in Aussieland are not too bad, you can pay them off weekly, fortnightly or monthly. The more you pay cuts down on the interest payments. A friend of mine paid his loan
$500,000 in just under 9 yrs.
I paid my 25yr loan off in 7yrs simply by splitting the monthly payment into weekly payments which straight away is an extra months payment , I also rounded up to the nearest 10 dollars aweek and kept the payments the same even after the banks reduced interest rates periodically I was amazed at the fact that my bank didn't offer this option when I took the loan .
@@tomwareham7944 Cool bro, that's why you have the option to shop around :)
Missed out on NOT HAPPY JAN!
We Aussies have Been saying that for years at any inconvenience after that ad aired...
That was in part 1
Dude Bananas give you so much energy
I was hoping to see the life be in it adds with good old Norm
Literally was cracking up in laughter about the lube mobile one!
We grew up watching these on day to day television some played on repeat multiple times throughout the day so it’s definitely good to get a different perspective on them and your thoughts as they are absolutely hilarious! 🤣
There is a follow up ‘Make those Bodies Sing’ banana commercial where it shows the children then, and then now.
I love Barbara, she is my banking retail idol. I modeled myself on Barbara. Im medically retired now.
As said previously, the slip, slop, slap campaign was one of the most successful health campaigns. It changed Australians attitude to sun protection. Although it was in the 80’s we still talk about slip on a shirt, slip on sunscreen & slap on a hat.
Doctor here… bananas are one of the best high energy snacks available- full of complex carbohydrates!
Jane lynch is definitely NOT the mother from sons of anarchy…. Lol that’s Katey Sagal haha 😂
It's like watching dumb and dumber these guys have no idea
We are more like the prequel that no one talks about.
BTW - bananas are a 'fruit' (technically a berry) FYI. It's a healthy food, so you wouldn't like this ad, obviously. But they do kind of look like guns so there's that!
Banana is one of the few fruit/berry grown on a herb
banana is in the same family as ginger I can’t stand the smell I worked on a banana farm for years many of those in the drying sheds cutting up over ripe bananas to be dried into banana chips you can’t escape the smell of banana it permeates every single pore and follicle 🤢I now gag at the smell of banana
Bananas are also the most popular fruit in Australia.
My favourite fun banana fact - they are slightly radioactive due to naturally having potassium-40. Also you shouldn't eat too many in 1 day because you will get sick due to potassium poisoning, limit your intake to 1-2 a day at most.
Loved our Banana Sing ad.. don't understand how they didn't 'get it '
Bananas are absolutely known for energy lol
Oh the first bank teller ad LAUGHED my arse off - the bank line just keeps getting longer.
It may just be nostalgia or the fact that we have ads for fruits but I love the banana ads we have. Especially that 90s one. 😂
Last attempt was British at the accent and this time its South African almost.
I think most of these ads are so bad they stick in your memory, thus are 'good ads' for being hard to forget
Also banana's are known as the best energy fruit :)
The banana ad was literally just an ad to remind people to eat bananas no particular brand just bananas
I like you how said that like there's a a brand of Bananas
@16:19 Actually, it seemed to fit into the ad video quite well (if you're getting paid product placements)
In Australia we can do up to 30 year loans. We can pay the loans off early and can move banks for better deals without fees to move.
1:10 thank you for getting Aussie right 😂😂
Great trip down memory lane 😄 Love all those old ads and still remember all the songs word for word, sometimes the entire ad word for word 🤦♀️🤷♀️😁
Just need to see all The Carlton Draught ads
10:48 yes that's the joke Nasi Goreng Is a food dish
You should check out these other commercials "holeproof underpants getting caught with your pants down"
"Cat chow" &
" help me Rhonda yellow pages "
Waḻpanur ads are a crack up
slip on a shirt, slop on sunscreen and slap on a hat, that was our morning ad for years
6:59 Are you asking if the English came up with English alphabet?
That made me laugh so hard holy shit 😂😂
The banana ad is iconic. How dare you.
The Slip Slop Slap was a sunscreen commercial but also a cancer awareness ad
Ok Bananas are full of potassium, fibre, vitamin C as well as other vitamins, minerals and have antioxidant contents. They are and ideal snack and helps to maintain a healthy blood glucose level. The Slip-Slop-Slap add was to bring awareness to skin cancer and to encourage skin protection.
12:52 Haha the Libra pad add is funny as hell even if it's cringe.
14:55 The Banana boat ad is legendary
7:18 it’s the Roman alphabet with additions - modern English tends to drag other languages into alleys, mug them, and rifle through their pockets for spare words….
Mite Mite is my favourite yeast spread. I believe it is far nicer than Vegemite and is made still by a family owned company in Sydney, 333's. They also make amazing pickles and chutneys
Surprised the Tim Tam Adds didn't rock up also the greatest add of all was not shown. HBA Health Insurance add with the kids describing being ripped apart.
Missing some great ones there, would defo be interested in more of these type of videos 😁
omg my childhood slip slop slap 40 years later im tell my kids this lol thats gold ..
I just want an ad that tastes like real milk
Miles you need to call Phezz "Hey, Pancho".
4 of the most profitable banks in the world are Australian. One, NAB just declared their annual profit of $6.5 Billion!
Banana Boat is beyond iconic 😍
A lot of ads are not of Australian origin. With international companies, only the voice overs are local. The visuals come from somewhere else (usually the U.S.)
I went to a Supanova expo (anime, games, etc) in Brisbane and saw a guy who made a similar generic superhero cosplay using only pads.
Slip slop slap slide is the latest version, and just like the grim reaper add it worked
6:46 finally someone who finally get it speaking UK english is the correct way US is the wrong way and the US people always speak to us like WE are talking wrong the english speak better english then the US i hate how they tend to think there the english country
its colour not color
phone not fone
mum not mom
Aeroplane not airplane
cheque not check
theatre not theater
grey not gray
i could go on
these days a lot of mortgages are 30yr, but for a while 25 years was more common. But as others have mentioned, most people aim to pay them off sooner
I remember alot of these from my childhood and teen years. Lube mobile are still around I saw one drive past me the other day 😆
She wasn’t in Glee, she’s an Aussie comedienne, Genevieve Morris.
He was saying she reminded him of the actress Jane lynch that was in Glee
English originated in England , good on you Phez. This fact seems to allude many Americans🤣
Hit us with some Kogz, another fire Australian rapper.
KOGZ - Drown in Spit Pt 3 (older drop)
Kogz - Rappertag #14 | Season 2 (new release)
I think whoever sent this picked most of the worst ads we had back then...lol 🤣
Chicken Tonight is so simple it has no flavour.
Missing so many greta ads = Cottees, Vegemite, Qantas, Golden Valley
That invisible pads ad made every male from the age of 10+ do it
ANZ is Australia and New Zealand bank. And, we say "zed".
Have you guys reacted to the 1980s Franco Cozzo ad yet?
I'd like to reccomened some of our Car safety ads.
5:00 she's not the mother on Sons of Anarchy wtf 😂😂
Nooooo not the rabbit ad 🤤🤤🙃😱🇭🇲😂😂
You paused it just before the best milk commercial!
Thirteen thirty thirty two lume mobile …still catchy
If you don’t slip slop slap your an idiot 🤣
4:30 I know exactly who he's talking about and I agree she does look like Jane Lynch
9:42 😂💀
Think OZZIE for Aussie not OSSY....also English language came from England and in OZ we pronounce Z as ZED just like the English do....somehow ZED became Zee where you are.
Miles some words you so pronounce okay with an Aussie accent but for the most part it's pretty bad, you need to practice lol, but you're definitely amusing..... try saying mate with the ma sounding like may and the te being a hard t. Aussies are lazy when it comes to speaking. Keep up the good work guys..... love your vids. P.S. great to see the Broncos get a win today Phezz 👏
Australia and New Zealand bank ( ANZ)
"Bugga"
They'll fix the car!!!
Not happy Jan become a part of Australian language.
And yes, we say Zed, not Zee like Americans
Where's the old XXXX ads and Bundy Bear ads?
I hate Telstra but I loved the Great Wall of China part.
Check out 1992 Chicken tonight advertisement and parody.
so many better adverts argh... If I find them I will send you them.
Goggomobile ads
Hey Boys just a little heads up will be sending you 2 new Shapes biscuit flavors they will be the KFC chicken flavor and the Vegimite flavor you will probably get them early new year due to the holiday period.
Thank you!
@@TheCommodity LOL YW
30+ sun screen these days don't work well here in AUS most nowadays are 50+ sun screen
I think only a couple of these are funny or quintessential Aussie ads. I'm not sure where this list came from, but i think many Aussies will agree, the rabbit proof fence, the suncare, erm... I think that's it, they're pretty good. Katut!? Where is Katut? Not happy, Jan? It's a big ad, expensive ad? By Carlton Draught? The reading and writing hotline that we all know the number of? This was not the best of Australian ads. I know that sounds silly, and even if/ when you watch the ones suggested, you might not find those funny either, but, let's just make clear, not many Aussies rate these ads as the best, so, please, if you have to, look down on us for what we are actually proud of. Which, i think, include my hints....
The likes were 666 so I was tempted (ironically) to leave it...but I gave it a thumbs up after all.
I didn’t watch those and I live in Australia. Why aren’t you watching the one’s that won world awards?
Some of those ad's are either from the 80's or just slightly updated for the 90's. They make me cringe so hard.
Long sleeve shirt
American English was made by a brit and British English is made up of 3 languages and evolved over time
Some of these might be a bit humurous to Australians but for anyone else they are just plain ridiculous. Not really the right subject to recommend for our international friends to react to.
From south Australia 🇦🇺 you Aussie accent is pretty bad 😂🤣😂🤣
I'm Australian but I find most of our ads totally cringeworthy
