  • Building our 700cc 2 Stroke Dirt Bike was the most ambitious project we have ever attempted. But just how costly was it really? In this video we go into the gritty details on just how expensive it truly is to build a 700cc two stroke MX machine! What was the final price tag on the Megalodon? and were we able to build it cheaper than an Maico 700? Let's find out! :-)
Thanks for watching guys, like I said Project 700 was by far the biggest, scariest gamble we've ever taken on this channel. So thanks for you awesome support throughout! It was a wild ride for sure and we are certainly game for some more build projects in the future. What other mad hat motocross machines would you like to see us build next? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below!
Become a member of the Megalodon family by grabbing some of this exclusive merch! We are only selling 700 units across the entire range so be quick about it :-) All money raised from merch sales will be ploughed back into the project to make sure that the Megalodon is the best damn 700cc 2 Stroke in the whole wide world!

Hats off & Congratulations Max! You have accomplished the seemingly impossible task of creating the Megalodon 700!!! You have inspired us to order the new Maico 685 and undoubtedly created a path others will follow to create the ultimate monster worlds fastest 2 stroke 700cc!! ML&R

2- stroke dirtbikes will never come bk in a large production capacity. Emission standards won't let it. Its sad but reality.

    • @dirtbikedave
      @dirtbikedave 2 года назад +1

@@Davido50 that's not entirely true. Although we dont have all of the models that we had a couple decades ago, several companies have actually expanded their 2-stroke lines in that time span. There are still a plethora of 2-strokes in large scale production and the injected models are burning significantly cleaner. Interest is on the rise, too. As demand goes up, so will supplies.
But, really, the future is battery powered. So I would agree that we probably have seen the peak of the 2-stroke reign. But make no mistake: there will still be large production numbers of 2-strokes for years to come. Plus, we have decades of used bikes that are easy and inexpensive to recommission, and although the market doesn't always show it, that number grows each year too. Besides, as this video exhibits, you can always save some money and build your own!
      😎👍

you have built the monster 2 stroke, but now you need to build a monster 4 stroke to go against it. Something like 650 cc
or even 700cc. The 450 honda is pretty fast , so a 700cc 4 stroke would be an absolute monster.

Bikes can be a black hole money pit without a plan. I have been working on building a RC500 replica works bike out of my '88 CR500 for a long while. I have several thousand dollars invested allready, and I still have work to do. I estimate, not including the cost of the bike, I allready have around $5K into it, and Ive done most everything myself that I can do, farming out things beyond my skill level. Finding period-correct items are tough too. Since I still have to adapt inverted forks to it (as were the norm for works bikes them) I have to hunt down suspension, and a fabricator for the custom swingarm, as well as notes from a friend that worked on the Honda RC500 US program.
We all have a passion for bikes, and we prove it with blood sweat and money when we work on them and keep 'em going. When it is finally done, and the teething problems are ironed out, I'll see you at the 500 shootout!

@@dr.hugog.hackenbush9443 500cc is big enough for me. Banshee engines are a very high 350cc in stock trim. I'd like to build just the engine as a 500cc and fit it into a later model chassis with twin stainless expansion chambers. Don't think I'll have the money for custom plastics and wheels like the Megolodon 700 but I could get all the adrenaline I need from my own powerful 2 stroke creation.

Cool, stick it on the dyno let's see what she makes. Show the graph to the pipe builder, let him match it to the porting for clean pull,
All the way to Red line. By the way what is Red line? LOL, a good running open class motocross bike, should scare the living s*** out of anyone, that's why nobody knows what the red line is, rev limiter, it's a myth.

Once you allow for all of the favors you cashed in I think you would have been better off buying new. BTW I bet that bike totally sucks on the track. A wore out late 80's 250 will probably cut faster lap times. Don’t be too surprised if the lights go off and the closed sign goes up when they see you coming next time.

I’m a little disappointed. I really wish you had built a 701. Fondly remembering the old Maico 501.

Not really 100% custom since you used a Husaberg chassis

Fantastic insight but honest feedback, too wordy too long too much face. All that to say "we were given a bunch of freebies". Get to the point.
