I know there are a lot of people who recently discovered my video. To all of you I'd like to say thank you for your encouragement and kind words. Check out the rest of the videos on my channel when you have a moment. As always lots of love for everyone else that has been following me for a while.
Seriously; the message is deep. Give minorities parts that aren't stereotyped. It's extremely disrespectful and if you knew how much of an impact it makes on a persons daily life, man.
Personally; I've grown up being told I "act" white or "talk white" as if my black skin can't be associated with education. Same goes with Asians, Hispanics, Indians, you name it. Stereotypes are just that, stereotypes. But because you see the same stereotypes of the same minorities, people often begin to believe what they see on a screen, sad.

@Ashley Ramos no it depends on how you were raised and language skills develop at a young age so if someone wasn't exposed to a language from a young age chances are they won't speak it. And not every Latino speaks Spanish which is ok
@Ashley Ramos and it's like you shouldn't be forced or guilt tripped to embrace a culture if you don't want to so in the end just be proud of who you are and it's ok race and identity or whatever aren't that important. At the end of the day it's simply a part of who you are but it doesn't define you as a person. So don't guilt trip yourself.

I’m white, and honestly sometimes I envy a little the other cultures different races have, but I never hate them, in fact I embrace them because they really are amazing. And I hope that everyone else can too💜

I've generally just listened to his songs and wow they're better than Disney mainstream tracks.. I saw two messages in the song, the first one is those average people are getting accepted more than extraordinary or real talented ones.. The second one in the vid that as if his unique self isn't enough, so he need to do the most to make everyone value and appreciate him in society ( another type of wanting normality )

And even then, different Asian ethnicities seem to be used interchangeably! so much respect to will for addressing this issue so creatively, love you will!!

I love this so much, I couldn't even tell you. I really love the Avatar: The Last Airbender cartoon and was excited for the movie but it casted no asian, Inuit, or black leading roles. The show had literally no white people or Europeans like myself yet that's exactly what they did in the movie. Thank you for shining light on a lesser focused issue.

I remember when you talked about how Asians are underappreciated in media and such. This video is an amazing testament to those who lose out on roles because they don't fit the "beauty standard" set by society. Incredible job as always Will. 👏👏👏

1. He looks like a mini Henry Golding; he could totally be a leading man in a movie.
2. I’m an Asian American woman working on earning a graduate degree in the midwest, in a field that’s predominantly white women. I feel like I have to work three times as hard to prove myself. Listening to this song in the morning as I get ready is really giving me a confidence boost.

this spoke stars to me. I worked so hard to make student council this year, putting up posters, making buttons, I wrote an incredible speech for the election. But then again, of course, a white student who was average at best and put in no effort was elected due to the fact that white people are higher up on the food chain at my school.

As an Asian-American trying to make it in musical theatre, I completely understand how hard it is for casting directors to look past what you look like and not how well you sing or dance. Every music video I see, the more clear it becomes to me how much of YOU you put into every piece you release. Your heart and soul into the lyrics and music itself is obvious. But your dance, your other art loves, your directing taste, the storylines you make up in the videos, all of it is so you and there aren't many artists I can name who seem to have so much control and are able to make their personality show through every facet of a music video. I love it so much, and hope I can learn to emulate that in my writing in the future. So that all of it feels like me and even I'm happy with the product.
In regards to representation in the media, I feel that struggle, too. Asians and Asian-Americans, in particular (beat out only by Native peoples and Pacific Islanders), are one of the least represented groups in media right now, and in music alone, I can only think of a handful of English-speaking Asian or Western-born Asian musicians that have careers in the West (meaning I'm excluding kpop, jpop, etc.). There aren't many Asian actors, and Hollywood still hasn't gotten around to the idea that they can have minorities as characters or even protagonists in stories that aren't some kind of tragic "struggle" story related to their race. People can be black and lead movies that aren't all about racism, Hollywood. The same goes for everyone else.
I grew up never seeing black girls as protagonists to anything, and while slowly there are movies and books where the protagonists are black and it ISN'T a "struggle" story, we are still lacking. In the stories I write, I want to include more minority communities (regarding race, sexuality, neurodivergence, etc.) and hopefully by the time they are published, it would be too hard to sell the idea that people want to read a story primarily composed of minorities and that such stories are more commonplace.
Hopefully soon, with you and your music, the same will be happening in the music and performing arts communities.

As an Asian myself I have similar experience. I live in Germany which is similar. When I first moved in, my classmates were bullying me about being "yellow" or a "nerd". My parents putting me in kumon (a math tutoring place) didn't make it better. I moved schools and now I'm in a multiracial school and class now.
