Cool to see Tubby (Fatso) for once! I like much of this cartoon, especially Lulu and Tubby's interaction during the first half. In fact, I like pretty much everything except for the long dream sequence, which is way too clichéed and doesn't explore the real relationship between these two characters at all. Too bad Famous felt the need to resort to such an over-used plot twist.
One wonders if there's some sort of story behind the changing of Tubby's name for this short. Oh well, when Paramount revived this series in the 60's they finally went back to calling him Tubby.
StreamVid7 Technically he was also named Tubby in the comics, that change happened because this character never really had a name to start with. Lulu's creator Marjorie Buell simply had him being this nameless fat kid who Lulu sometimes interacted with in her one-panel cartoons or in subsequent ads for Kleenex tissues. It took the team of John Stanley and Irving Tripp to flesh out Lulu's work in the comics that followed.
Tubby Tompkins was to be called "Fatso" in some of the early cartoons, but hand it to JOHN STANLEY (the original comic book auteur for LL who had to submit his work to LL and Tubby creator MARGE HENDERSON BUELL for approval before it could see the light of day on the comic book racks) to replace with what clearly is an epithet with .....TUBBY. It stuck and stayed that way till the present day.
+eldrick thomas Nya, a A pretty girl who seems kind and gentle who later reveals herself as extremely possessive, sadistic and violent, when the boy she is in love with pays attention to a person who is not her.
In case anyone is wondering, Fatso is voiced by Arnold Stang, who was also the voices of Herman the Mouse and Hanna-Barbera's "Top Cat".
Fifi was no fool, that girl got up and she did GO!!
+Eszra Yup. She was like 'Oh s***! I'm outta here!' when Lulu arrived. XD
That's because she knows that Tubby is only Lulu's love interest.
Fifi sure didn't waste time leaving!
3:04
Lulu's mind while nodding her head: 'Oh that fool."
Fatso must be the human version of the Tramp, because when Lady got angry with him, she said two of his past girlfriends were "LULU _AND_ FIFI!!!!"
Lulu was really upset and we did see her eyes
Man!! The dog gets better treatment at the dinner table than tubby, how humiliating is that?
In case anyone hasn't noticed, Lulu's eye pupils keep changing.
Never knew Tubby was once known as Fatso.
Approved by the Academy of Fun Art
Freud would love this kid.
also popeye cartoons portrayed marriage badly
Popeye & little lulu are my personal favorites
Same here but that's because my dad introduced these to me when I was 4. I'm currently 17 rn.
How did Lulu and Tubby become a couple? They're suppose to be rivals
Apparently love develops where you least expect it
In Marge's daily posts and the Stanley comics there are a couple of times that we can see Lulu and Tuby having feelings for each other.
It nice that they love each other

Christopher Sobieniak True, that makes sense.
Yeah his name was Tubby.
Can Fifi have been Gloria’s prototype?
Possibly
Wasn't his name Tubby?
Lulu is so cute
I like it better when CiNAR made him and Lulu just best friends
That's interesting. Do you know who Gloria( or Fifi as she's called here) is voiced by?
@ParamountCartoons Throughout the whole cartoon?

Tubby became ill with diabetes.
With all that food lulu was feeding tubby he'll probably get a stroke before he makes it to the alter!
Tubby's original name was Fatso?
Lulu could do better than Fatso. What did she ever see in him anyway?
Its not that Lulu is so attractive either.
I think she's cute
Who knows why fools fall in love
Get to work!
