As a Gen X-er who watched these on TV with the Three Stooges before school. I’m glad y’all still enjoyed them in spite of the poor quality. Many of these cartoons haven’t been seen in good quality for decades! It’s good to know that there’s a younger interest in these cartoons!
The black bars were there to censor the paramount logo and technicolor text because they did not want their image shown on tv when UM&M bought the Fleischer and Famous cartoons in the mid 1950s. Prints with original titles are very rare since the tv prints circulated.
Well, there are no longer the large department stores that we used to have with the few exceptions such as Macy's in Herald Square in New York and Eaton's in Toronto. Back in the day, these stores projected an atmosphere of elegance, and each level had a "Floor Walker," who was responsible for overseeing the sales and supervised the sales force on each floor. They also served as a sort of store representative. Movies tended to portray Floor Walkers as implied Homosexual men with their controlled gentile manner and gestures. You pick up on that in the way that Jackson Beck reads the lines for the Floor Walker character in this cartoon.
The little lulu series is public domain, so nobody actually has the copyright to these films. I admit, Steve did an amazing job restoring the picture and audio
This animated short was and is now always my 3rd favorite one of "A Bout With A Trout", and "Chick And Double Chick". It had its parts. Like when Lulu kept bothering the toy store Salesman about what to trade her doll for. But then she didn't want to. Not to spoil it for anyone, either. But it made me laugh so hard, too. Like when the Salesman was imitating a baby. That was my favorite part and it always is.
It's good, but it's nothing you haven't seen before. Famous Studios' formula was to have Lulu annoy the hell out of some adult figure- and virtually drive them to the point of insanity.
Yeah, the formula is okay since this already worked well before with many cartoon characters annoying and heckling a people around using their jokes and tricks, such as Bugs Bunny,Daffy Duck,Woody Woodpecker,The Warner Trio(Yakko,Wakko, and Dot),Heckle and Jeckle,Screwy Squirrel, and others.
This is one of the few LULU cartoons that will pass muster today. The unfortunate reality is that several of the other entries contain Black Stereotypes that are not acceptable today in spite of the otherwise entertaining aspects. I recall that LOOS IN A CABOOSE cut the Stephen Fecthit Porter from the print shown on Detroit television. The rest of the cartoon was "safe."
This was supposed to be the Paramount closing title: static.wikia.nocookie.net/logopedia/images/8/81/ParamountCartoons1943Closing.png/revision/latest?cb=20160406013720
The original titles had to be cut at the request of Paramount, saying that they didn't want their logo and copyrights shown, so when UM&M bought the Fleischer/Famous library in 1955, they cut the titles and replaced them with a shield with yellow text on a red backdrop. And since AI and After Effects exist, it is now possible to restore and recreate all original titles and credits.
That little brat Lulu has been causing lots of trouble at the department store and this makes the manager really angry 😠💢😡. She should have been banned from the department store for csiinng/causing mischiefs, y'know.
This was a staple on all those crappy public domain VHS tapes that we had growing up. A real treat to see it with nice colour!
True. None of the washed-out colors I had to see it as 40 years ago.

I had one of those to as a kid
Took me all my life to see it this way, thank you!
I like that when Little Lulu print with no black bars.

I only just noticed that there was a small sample of an audio track that doesn't belong there before the paramount mountain appears on screen.
For anybody that has worked in retail, this cartoon has aged like wine.

Now if only Universal Pictures can notice you and remaster this masterpiece. 😃
Actually, Paramount owns this cartoon. Universal just owns the 1930's-40's Paramount features.

@@ChristopherSobieniak Famous Studios cartoons are super formulaic by classic cartoon standards to the point even dioluage is repeated.
Not only that, but the design of the adult figure got reused a lot in her cartoons (even as her father), many filling those same roles.
@@jonathanwilson5011 Pretty much. I'm sure he was meant to be Mr. Moppet from the original comics.

I only now just got that Lulu is the precursor to Dennis the Menace
2:11 the part I remembered when I watched this on VHS when I was a kid. Lol
As Seen on Toon In with Me
Ideal for recreating title. But this needs a better colour for this classic.
7:07 What’s wrong with the manager?
He’s completely lost his mind.
5:27 Here's a How-dee-do, You're an Horse's butt!
One of classic pieces of gags Looney Tunes have.
Lulu is cool!
😁So kind little girl that..SHE DESTROYED EVERYTHING!!!!
The Little Lulu Made by Paramount? 🤨
Temper, temper.

@@fromthesidelines Wrong link. There should be the 1945 closing logo.
