  • In today's video I share an idea on transitioning to mount from side control as you're attacking with a Kimura. This was one of my favorite transitions as a BJJ White Belt and I've continued to use it well into my Black Belt phase of Brazilian Jiu-jitsu.
    If you've watched the videos on the channel, then you know I'm a kimura person through and through.
    Now, even if you don't like this particular transition, no worries. You can use the ideas I talk about in the video and tailor them to your game. The big idea here is to focus on having the next technique or move in your game ready to go.
    Hope the video helps you and your BJJ training.

    I'm a 17 year old girl and just completed my first month of jiu jitsu. It's also the first "sport"(?) I've really been in and it's so fun! I'm out of shape but getting much better at exercise and I'm going to practice 4 times a week. I already see a huge change in my level of fitness. I love learning new things in jiu jitsu that I can use in rolls. Just being able to escape side control and mount and do simple things is so fun because I use what I learn.
    I've been doing exercises at home and practicing basic movements like shrimps and rolls to improve my movement. I'm so excited to see where my journey goes.

    As a new blue belt, it's easy to start getting lured into the flashy moves and think that an advanced game has to revolve around them. It's great to see that your go to game is just simple and and effective moves. Way to bring me back down to Earth. Great content! Keep up the great work.

      Yeh like I'm always adding and trying new moves but then I keep finding ways to refine and link up my fundamentals and then I'm like Dam the possibilities just keep growing

      Nothing wrong with playing with flashy moves. As a purple belt and one of the coaches at my gym, I do flashy stuff! it can help you think of new subs, passes etc. You should just keep refining an "A game" and leave the flashy stuff for when you feel like experimenting.

      He mentioned in a previous video that he doesn’t charge mat fees so anyone passing through the area can drop in on a class for free. I thought that was pretty cool. I need to plan a vacation that takes me through Kentucky now.

    Super helpful. As a white belt, transitioning between positions and not getting subbed is what I'm focused on right now, so this is right up my alley.

      Hang in there, it gets better. I’m only 6 months in but it has definitely been an emotional roller coaster ride between frustration and excitement.
      The best advice I was given was “just keep showing up”. Eventually you aren’t getting crushed as much so the pain and soreness start going down.

    Hey man I recently found your channel and have been watching a ton of your content and now really want to start jiu jitsu. My question is what’s the difference between bjj and Gracie jiu jitsu and if it really makes much of a difference. If it does which would you recommend/prefer?

    • @77stephani77
      @77stephani77 2 года назад +2

      Was checking out comments, Hope this clarifies, The main difference between BJJ and Gracie Jiu-Jitsu is that many BJJ schools focus more on sport while GJJ focuses on self-defense. Both BJJ and GJJ come from the same origin and art and were developed by the Gracie family. But Gracie jiu-jitsu is stricter about keeping to the original style passed down by the Gracie family more than a BJJ school has to. I train no gi jiu jitsu (10th planet) more of a sports/combat style. 🤓👍

    INTERESTING- I heard the question and thought, “He wants defensive transitions, what to do when guard is getting passed or preventing mount.” But then the video rolls into offensive transitions 🤔
