Got my blue about 4 weeks ago. Same thing happened to me! No pressure to get a blue belt so I am now just on the mat rolling. Have gotten multiple comments on how much my game has gotten better.
Was rolling with a purple on sat and took him by surprise the first half of the roll before he turned up the beast mode dial up a little more. After our roll he said to me, “I see you are going to be a problem in the future.”

Feeling this right now. Had been in a really great "feeling no pressure" place as a blue belt. Recently I rolled with our head instructor and when we finished he smiled and said "Man, you're really coming along!" and then the upper belt who "adopted" me as a white belt offhandedly said "You're probably pretty close to your purple". Now i have to keep shaking off "expectation" and pressure and just keep things playful- but it's harder now than it was two weeks ago.

I had this exact feeling. I just got my purple late March. Towards the end of blue, when I knew I was getting close to purple, I felt loads of pressure. All self imposed, of course. Scared to make any mistakes.
Last few months since getting my purple have been the most enjoyable time I can remember.
Still a touch of imposter syndrome, but I knew to expect that, so it's fine. The pressure I felt towards the end of blue lifted instantly and I've just been surfing a wave since.
      It's been great.
Sounds like you'll be there soon as well. Good luck 👍

I just got my Blue Belt a couple of weeks ago, and I feel like I’m rolling better. I think it has also given me a little more confidence to trust what I have learned so far and really try to apply it without second guessing myself as much. I am also probably a little more relaxed… I’m loving the BJJ journey so far. Thanks for the video!

Pretty much everything you said -3 stripe blue belt here. In the last couple months my progress has really clicked because I really quit caring if I lose during rolling. I put myself in worse spots and sometimes it fails miserably, but other times I see sub openings I’ve never noticed before. Ironically my coaches have noticed and commented on it as well.

I've had a lot of problems with this, making winning so important that I end up not paying attention and losing the lesson. Then on those days where you're carefree (for the most part) you end up doing better and learning more. Preach it Chew

Really informative video thank you sir. I’ll save that for my own mental development. It has been my own experience also that the days when I’m relaxed and not trying too hard are the days I nail techniques and move in a more fluid, effortless manner. It definitely starts up top.

This is awesome man. I’ve been trying to focus on this type of mantra when I compete, mainly trying to stay in a calm but focused state versus an amped and rage/kill state. The mind thinks a lot clearly when you’re calm and decisions can be made at much quicker intervals. Anyway, cool to see you attesting to this mindset and seeing the results in your students. Love the channel! Osuuu

what I remember about the belt promotions is now the knuckle heads at lower belts have something to prove.

I’ve been experiencing this moment as well. Just got my blue belt 3 weeks ago. And the first session after I felt great, was dominating and wasn’t getting subbed. I felt more fluid.

This is really helpful, I just started about a month ago, so obviously a white belt here. Had a roll last night where we started from closed guard and I didn’t try very hard to hold the closed guard to I could practice my open guard defense and did not do so hot. I left class last night and took it hard.

This happened to me too. My game jumped way up because I felt like losing or tapping didn't matter anymore. Now I'm judo nikyu (2nd degree brown) as well and nothing bothers me at all, I can literally walk into any gym and play my C and D game, tap to a bunch of strangers, and still have the time of my life

Weirdly didn’t happen to me at blue belt, but definitely noticed it at purple belt. I was really in my head about being good enough to earn it. After I had it, I opened up alot and had more fun. Sometimes I still play the A game and try to perform the best in the round, and sometimes I try stuff and find myself totally comfortable with it failing.

Flow. It's what video games use to keep you playing. It's not too easy and not too hard. Problem with BJJ is, it's always hard. But I love it. And with my third stripe on my Bluebelt I also started to relax.

The first day after I got my blue belt I got like 6 submissions, including a mounted triangle that I never go for. I really thought the blue belt was magical until I went back to being smashed again a few weeks later lol

@@tededo I’ve been training BJJ for about 8 Years Now and Ive received my Black Belt. Being a Blue Belt was a nostalgic time when most of what I was learning was new.
Whereas now at Black Belt I spend most of my time refining things that I already know pretty well and so there isn’t this one tweak that can change your whole game.
I miss training with High Belts and gaining that confidence after holding my own. Now I’m the higher belt in the Academy and guys are using me to gain confidence. Sometimes those rolls can be anxiety inducing.

Cory Sandhagen in the UFC talked about flow state a lot on Joe Rogans show, he was really intrested in the idea of being in a 5 round fight and trying to just take the pressure off and to be in a mediative flow state he's almost described that expirience with his fighting style being like an out of body experience

I'm so focussed on getting my blue belt, that part of me just wants it so that I can stop thinking about it, not so much nervousness but just hyper focus but it takes some enjoyment out of it.

I found its not the worry of failing or losing from your own exptation, you already know roughly how the rolls going to go. You worry worry what other people will think of you if you get tapped by a someone. If you we to ask those people what they thought, they probably couldnt give a damn who tapped you. Once you remove the false exptations of others that you made up in your own mind, you are feel to explore and learn much faster though failure. Even when snowboarding I found that I wasnt improving unless I was pushing hard enough to wipeout.

I'm a 10th planet white belt and my coaches feel like I'm on the edge of blue and everything is starting to click and I'm doing way better in every tournament but it's intresting that this guy lost the sense of pressure when he got his blue I hope I can figure that out

Dojo is the place to learn, make mistakes and corrected it. Make chain of techniques that works and learn from the failing chains. That is what I told my kids when they train Judo and BJJ. Dont pursue winning in the gym, pursue the fun of chaining techniques. Let it flow. And the kids winning Judo tournaments more often now. The daughter have 5 medals and the son have 3 medals.

Hey chewie white belt here! Started about 3 weeks ago and my gi is starting to have a bit of discoloration… what are some secrets to keep my gi white like the day I got it?

    • @ColinMcRaeVIT
      @ColinMcRaeVIT 2 месяца назад +2

If you are having discolouration after only three weeks that’s a real problem. Hopefully you were washing it after every training session.
Also, don’t hang it on one of those wooden hangers, it seems like it leeches the dye off wooden hangers so it looks like your collar is always dirty.
Also, wherever the discolouration is occurring most, like if it’s on for example the hips, and you’re probably spending a lot of time on your back as a new white belt, maybe your gym just needs a proper cleaning like maybe their floors are bad. You shouldn’t be getting discolouration after three weeks at least if the fabric is let’s say, better quality and not sort of a $30 Amazon knock off type product.
On the upside, it makes you look more seasoned :-)

Spray stains with Shout when you get home.
      Hang dry only.
After washing and once dry, dab or spray blood stains with hydrogen peroxide to completely remove them.
Wash with Mrs Stewart’s Liquid Bluing when they need brightening.
Wash with Defense Soap laundry booster if bacteria and smells are a concern.

For me, it has been different. I've experienced this with higher belts, but with the white belts, I'm feeling the pressure to 'defend' the belt, which is causing my rolls with the white belts not to be the best

Is that a dermoid cyst on your eyebrow? They try to convince you to remove it, just curious. They claim it will cause problems, and I don't want to have surgery for it
