My grandmother made some knitted versions of this for my mom in the 50s! (With *very* scratchy wool). I can't wait to make this with a softer yarn and give it to her. She'll love it.
Thanks for this video! My aunt asked me if I had a pattern for a hat like this, but I could find only a knit pattern. I fudged it in Tunisian so she would have a hat. Now I can make another for her! Thank you, thank you, thank you! 😀👍👍👍
Can ya make mine with two or three layers? Ever since I was in Duluth Minnesota waiting for the primary school bus one mornin', in -74°windchill weather that was whipping up to be a blizzard later - which actually buried our three-story School to halfway of the third floor windows* - I really don't like the cold or blustery winds. I didn't get home until 9:30 that night. All the people in charge of such jobs, had to get the snow plows out on extra duty to clear roads to all schools and to the bus barn, as well as dig out any other schools that got buried. * Now that I'm grown, I'm thinking, maybe that was only on the windward side where the snow made a huge drift against the building, but they did say they had to dig us out. Once again, maybe that's the case, and that, coincidentally, is where a main entrance to the school is/was. I do remember leaving through the double doors where I always entered the school. Now I'm wondering about the fire code safety rules about egress/ Escape Routes. Whenever we had fire drills we always went out those doors. Surely those were not the only doors? What do I know I was in 3rd grade, and was governed every minute.
@@kayceegreer4418 , In case of fire, jump out the window and into the snow! I know in harsher climates, everybody has to "suck it up", but it does sound like somebody goofed. You guys should have been off!
I LOVE this pattern!! I think it would be soooo cute with a crochet flower attached to it to!! I’m going to make up some of these for Christmas presents. Thanks for sharing!!
You are SO sweet,The headbands look adorable, I'm kind of a beginner,But I might give this a try, You and I can look good taking the dog for a walk or maybe getting the mail 🙂
My mom crocheted these for my sisters and my self from toddler to the I don’t want to look like a baby age. Covered our ears on the cool fall days. What a wonderful memory
I remember having one of these headbands/hats made with a very soft and somewhat fuzzy white yarn (angora, maybe). P.S. when doing BLO ribbing, I always go through both loops on the first and last stitch for a better looking finish.
So pretty! I walk my dog at a park up the street. It is always so windy and my hair goes everywhere. This is so much more stylish than wearing a ball cap. ❤
I sat mesmerized as I watched your hands creating this beautiful little headband. I can see in different colors with the edging and the center accent in complementary colors. I love the way it comes over the ears and will keep the ears warm. It's great for riding in a car with the top down too. I'm going to make myself a few of these. Thanks for sharing this pattern.
I wore these as a child and always liked them. I was so happy to see a tutorial for it. I used to crochet a lot but I haven't in years. However, this was so easy to do that everything came back to me quickly and I've finished my first one as a gift for a friend that I know will adore it. Thanks for such clear directions.
I remember wearing one of these made from angora when i was a little girl back in the mid-fifties. Always loved that little hat/headband. Kept my ears toasty warm, too! Thanks, Corinna, for that flashback!
Thank you for sharing. I'm thinking of making it just a bit longer to cover my ears while on my morning walks. So much easier than messing with a neck scarf that usually falls off my ears. Thanks again
neat, i have some extra cream aran wool thats incredibly soft and i think i might try this as a break from the thread shawl im making. i just cut my hair for spring and now my pin curls look like a clown wig 😂 i desperately need to cover them up on day 1 after showering
I was just thinking that this would be a good project for Easter. I love lavender or iris purple and yellow together. Then I realized that it would be great for St. Patrick's Day -- green and gold, baby!
Well I just finished crocheting this beautiful headband it took a long time but I did it 😊😊😊thank you so very much for sharing I love ❤️ it 😊😊😊I hope to make more of them 😊😊😊😊
I can remember wearing this style headband. The prettiest ones were angora or mohair blend yarns. In the early sixties they were embellished with giant sequins or faux pearls. You could also tie it under your hair in the back instead of under the chin.
Every Christmas, my Nanny would make one for me and each of my cousins. I always wanted to make it but couldn't find a pattern. I'm so glad you did this video. Thank you so much.
Thank you so, so much for this pattern. I've been looking for this pattern for a while. Living in Michigan my ears get real cold and now I can give them a nice covering.
As a really new newbie this looks like a great project (so many beginner patterns want me to work in a round). The repetitive nature makes it a great practice piece. I can see a young girl making it for that reason. I was about to just give up on crochet
I wore these all the time in late 50's and 60's. It was black with white pearls. Thank you so much for finding this pattern. Can't wait to make one. Have a wonderful day! 😊
My grandmother made these for my sister and I to wear in the cold, windy days of the 1950s. Thank you for the wonderful memories. I will be making these for my great granddaughters, they are a beautiful hat/ headband.
Oh my , my Mother made these for me. I have all her patterns but not this one. I' m 73 and so happy to finally have this. Mithers and daughters alike would wear them. Thank you so much😢
The result of that stitch is so pretty, I'm not sure if I've seen it before (I'm not a big crocheter). When I started knitting I got a big bag of yarn in a charity shop, the wrappers said it was DK weight, when I next bought DK yarn it was like half the thickness!!! Discovering Wraps Per Inch was mind blowing, I now only measure in WPI and I can't help thinking yarn would be easier to pick/understand if the wrappers had the WPI, too, as it would override all the international yarn weight names.
I am just thrilled that I found this channel! I love to find foreign doily patterns that I can’t read and just go by the diagram sometimes even just the picture! So fun and challenging.
I had stared at this pattern for weeks and finally bought it a few weeks ago. Its such a cute and quick make. I cant believe I got a vintage pattern before you! My brain exploded lol. The only thing with this pattern is I find it needs blocking and im not 100% sure how to. Cause it ripples a bit.
I wanna apologize very strongly by asking you first of all. How could I buy that book? I just want to tell you that I’m very happy that you do these tutorials on RUclips. I’m very pleased I’ve done so many pieces you have taught us or taught me how to do them I thank you I appreciate you, and I’m very well pleased of taking time for us for me. Thank you.❣️
I don't have the original book, I got this pattern from a 1982 " Old Time Crochet Patterns&Designs" magazine , I'm verry sorry I could not help, the magazine does not reference the name of the original publication either, And thank you so much for the kind words
I remember seeing my mom and my aunts in photos with this hat/headband on. This is awesome, I will be making one of these for my mom, who is 82 years old, and then she will not have an excuse for not wearing an ear cover in the winter.
I had two of these in the early '60's grade school both in angora, one pink, one in cream. My Mom tied them not under my chin but at the nape of my neck. The cream one had a matching tube to put your hands in.
I'm making this tomorrow! This would be perfect for wearing on long haul international flights. I'm travelling to the U.S. soon, I need this little hat.
This is soooo perfect for people who don't want to wear a hat and yet need something to keep the top of their head and ears warm. There's nothing worse in the world than "hat head," lol! 😂 This is the answer to that! Thank you so much!
I think I'll just call it an earwarmer... because that's what it is. The cool thing about it is that you can add an extra layer inside it because, usually, knitted or crocheted ear warmers are never enough if they are a single layer.
1. I love your voice! 2. I love this pattern and love how it turned out 3. Thank you for posting this! (I’m posting from my husbands account but I’m a woman 😂)
Hello Corrina cute little cap / headband. I had something similar as a child, my sisters and I. But the back portion was a little bit longer coming down closer to the nape of the neck. It was made out of mostly I think red heart yarn but when red heart yarn was a little bit cheaper grade. than it is now Not quite as soft. as some of the red heart yarn is nowadays. Thanks for the video Looking forward to the next one.

I love that idea!
Try alpaca fleece! ;) Synthetics smell weird and will make you too warm and make your hair staticky.
That is adorable. It looks like something from the 50's to keep hair in place in a convertible. So cute
After that crazy amazing purse you deserve doing this easy pattern! It's so cute too!
I wore this type of hats when I was a little girl even my Easter hat was the same shape but woven with ribbons and flowers.
Thanks for this video! My aunt asked me if I had a pattern for a hat like this, but I could find only a knit pattern. I fudged it in Tunisian so she would have a hat. Now I can make another for her! Thank you, thank you, thank you! 😀👍👍👍
I too had several of these growing up in 1960s Canada. Great for warm ears. Thanks for the memories Corinna

The bonnet reminds me of the ones my grandmother and mother made for me as a child 😊🌸. Why I remember them so well is how itchy they were 😊💜

We wore these in the early 60’s they were white mohair and super soft! I am going to make one for my great grand baby for next winter.

My head is already jumping to different versions, with flowers, with a bow... well it would work as facinater probably. On the List.
I wore a headband like this when a 3 in 1963. I wanted to make this for my granddaughter. Thank you. 💜
Thank you so much for showing us this! I really love your added tip for how you turn smoothly! Thumb's up to you.
I wore those when I was a kid in the late 50's and early 60'. Thank you for posting the pattern.
Love this,, thinking about working with a smaller weight yarn for summer windy days.❤️👍
I wore these as a child in the 1960's. I loved them. I remember the last one was white . I'll make one soon.
