Several years ago, I lost about half of my hair due to stress. There was hair everywhere -- in my crochet, on the floor, on the dog, in the shower. You name it. It was hard as a woman in my twenties to be dealing with hair loss and nobody to really talk to about it in a way that wasn't "Oh gosh. Are you ok?" I really appreciate you speaking up and normalizing this very real, very common even that occurs. I hope all is well for you and love your content.
Thank you so much for that! I appreciate you telling us your story too, it helps to make these conversations normal , and that yes! it's ok to lose your hair, life goes on and in a way it's easier to manage , and with wigs your hair always look like you know what the hell you're doing in front of a mirror lol , Im not embarrassed or afraid , just just a new chapter :) it's part of the story of me
My older brother lost a lot of hair at one point in college. He has a Master's degree in physics, so he had some very tough classes. It was definitely due to stress. He is 70 now with a full head of hair.
I lost my hair when I was in 7th or 8th grade and again my freshman year of hs because of stress. I had a hard time accepting it at first, but found my confidence eventually, and now I actually prefer my hair really short. I look at the experience now as a blessing in disguise.
I'm 2 months away from 78 and I'm loosing a lot of hair, too. Like you said, my hair is now everywhere. I'm so glad I found your channel and specially your pattern. Also glad you advised what would be the best yarn for it. I was kind of wandering what yarn to use. I'm making me a few in different colors if my first one comes out nice. Hopefully it will. Thank you so much for providing or sharing your finding with us. Once I'll do it I willl share a picture. Have a very blessed weekend.
At 12:02 I stopped to download the pattern! I'm saving the rest of the video until I get the yarn chosen. I'm intrigued by the stitch pattern, and my chemo-neuropathic head will enjoy the stylish warmth. thank you Corinna, I'm loving your videos even if I don't do every project.
I lost about 1/3 of my hair a couple years ago from taking Prednisone and also my wonderful dog died and one of my daughters had a traumatic event. I'm not sure which one did it, but the doctor said it could be just the meds or the stress. My hair was all over the house and in the canister of the vacuum cleaner. I had a lot of hair to begin with, so I don't think it was very noticeable to others. Most of it came back. I love your style and way of presenting the patterns. Don't know why, but it is very grounding and comforting to me to watch your videos, so I'm glad I found your channel. Thank you.
I lost half my hair at age 19 due to cancer. I am now 54 and still find it difficult to deal with. I appreciate this tutorial and your frankness about your own struggles.
I have alopecia universalis. It was adult onset several years ago. I used to love my hair. I did full on Farrah Fawcett hair back in the day! Now, I couldn't care less. Lol. What hair I do have, I buzz 1/4" long every couple of months. It is so much easier not to have bad hair days for me. I really had trouble with it at first. Then I realized just how easy it made life, and I haven't looked back. Lol. I bought a wig but it was too annoying. I wear a scarf or bandana sometimes, but mostly I just rock my bare or nearly bare head. 😊 people don't really seem too bothered by it now. Actually for me the bigger loss was my eyebrows and eyelashes. That weirds me out even now to see those bald face bits. Lol. That weirds other people out more too. The eyes look naked without brows and lashes framing them, and I do see people looking away in discomfort sometimes. I feel bad for them, not me. Kids are hilariously curious though. Luckily eyebrows are easy to draw in, using a stencil, and eyeliner helps make up for the no lashes. My brows, scalp hair, and lashes do come back sometimes, but then leave me again. It's actually annoying when they do because it is less comfortable. Lol. My sister in law with alopecia all her life used to try to arrange what hair she had to cover the bald spots, now she shaves it like me. She crochets as well, and has lots of pretty hats, but doesn't bother to cover it a lot of times anymore. I am sorry you are losing your hair. It really does suck, especially if it is so much a part of our identity. I hope you can gain confidence and move forward without letting it bother you too much. You do lots of lovely crochet so I am sure you will have all kinds of beautiful headwear. I am looking for pretty things to wear on my head sometimes for some occasions. I wore a beautiful ruffley organza hat for less than $20 off ebay for my daughter's wedding. There are lots of different styles of those, too. They make anyone look extra put together, and no one knows there's no hair under them. :) Hugs and best of luck on your hair loss. I love watching your videos. I have just got back into crochet after many years without. Seeing those mystery crochet projects you do is so fun! So many lovely classic patterns.
I have Alopecia. I started losing my hair when I was 18 and pregnant with my first child. I just turned 55. I started wearing wigs 2 weeks ago. I love it. Because I can change the color and style any time I want to. I basically let Alopecia consume me. I hardly ever went to any family get togethers. I hardly ever went anywhere. I used to cry all the time. But now. it doesn't bother me anymore. I go everywhere now.
Killing two birds with one stone… woman you WAY under value yourself. More like 4+ with one stone: great pattern, great tutorial, great educational, and personality. Get so much out of you effort. 👏 thank you. Glad see you using something you made for YOU. Love this. Great since weather changing. 🧡
The turban is beautiful, you’re beautiful, you’re sentimental to be using and wearing family treasures, and you’re very talented. I love watching your videos! 💕
I LOVE watching the mystery patterns!!! I can't believe how much I've learned about crochet from watching the mystery videos. Like, how yarn hook and most importantly, what you are 'just supposed to know' can combine!!!!!
I had long full wavy hair, below the hip. Then I got several Autoimmunue Diseases. I lost hair like crazy. I was depressed and sick. I know I suggested a few Wig places and you responded. I also wear a lot of hats and scarves. I'll be making this ! Keep the great attitude and GOD Bless you 💜🙏💜
@@justvintagecrochet .... I'm just sorry we had to learn about wigs...but, we do what we can, right? It's great to have people to share with, and I'm so glad I was led to your platform ❤
I know exactly how you feel about your hair , I started loosing mine at about age 38 , I'm 54 now and have a wig , but scarves etc are great , I think your going to look amazing in your new stylings x
Don't worry about the hair lost. You will look beautiful and I will pray it comes back more and very soon. My mom had beautiful hair when he's came back.❤🙏🙏
hiya corinne! jeepers, these were soooooo popular then...all of my aunts had at least 1. you wearing it makes me think of real Hollywood stars. i really like the look of the stitch.
I absolutely adore your new turban, wear it in good health! When going to the barber, ask for a "high and tight," it's what I believe you were describing, and any barber worth his weight in salt will know exactly what that is. When I was in the Army so many moons ago, it's what we all wore. My wife doesn't like my hair to be that short, but it's my head, and I like it, so there's that. Hope all is well.
I'm going to have to make one now. I lost a lot of my hair several years ago from a treatment for MS. When it grew back, it came back with a vengeance! Curly and thick. Hang in there lady!
Love the button idea, I'm old enough to remember these turbans. But ladies would make a loop to hold the folds in place, sometimes with an accent color; I like the button more. Broaches were also a thing in some social circles.
Ill making this for my mom. Shes been loosing hair for a while now, because of age her hair is thinning out, but i thibk she will absolutely love this.
Buzz cuts for women are tres chic these days. I have one myself and it feels wonderful. Very liberating, yet surprisingly feminine as well. The turban is adorable. Clever girl! :)
Yes, I love watching Joan Crawford movies too. Oh the clothes from that era are just Boss. You’re doing a fabulous job with the Vintage crochet, Thank you 😍
Thank you so much. Over 70 here & don't have the energy to futz with my thining hair. My time is for my hubby & the grands. Turbans are the way to go & this stitch is fabulous.
I’m loosing my hair, too. And guess what. I have that same old Caron yarn in my stash. (Different color, but I think we must be related. Except I’m a lot older). Oh! And your nail color is one of my very favorite colors! Love that violet blue, periwinkle color!
God bless you! You did a lovely job and you look beautiful in your turban! In 1963 I gave birth to my third child. In 1969 after they were all in school (mothers rarely worked then) I went to work. The ladies there were crocheting shawls with Dazzle Aire yarn, one of my first crochet projects. I learned to crochet from a Family Circle booklet. That yarn held up, and my shawl looks as nice today as it did then, and I used it a lot. Now I'm an old lady and my hair is falling out - it's everywhere! It's long, worn pinned up in back to hide a bald spot. It makes me sick to know I must soon get it cut, because hair cutting is such an art that few people possess and I'm so afraid of how ridiculous looking I may end up. Maybe I should make a turban and see a barber! Seriously, I wish you all the best, and truly admire your spunk. I love making doilies from antique patterns - and it makes me so happy to know someone so young is interested in the old patterns. I'm subscribing!!! Thank you so very much - I wish you all the success you dream of. 💝
I absolutely love it. My mom loved them when she started losing her hair after chemo. You look absolutely gorgeous in that. Never think your not. Us women are absolutely gorgeous right Ladies.
Hello 🙂, A 60's Turban! awesome and I love that color too. This one is going on my big'ol list of to-do's. I wear Turbans when I'm cooking, keeps my grays out of the food, lol 🤭. $1.39 ! for that yarn, Holy yarn balls !! Batman..😆. Thank you Corinna for another wonderful tutorial. It looks so pretty, great job.
I just told my husband today that I needed a wig but didn’t want to wear one every day I went out. I was thinking of a regular hat that some would call a toboggan. A turban didn’t cross my mind! Plus I love vintage.
Thank you for this pattern :) I’ve been in remission for 10 year and am mostly bald. It’s hard to find cute stuff to wear that covers my hole head. I’m proud of surviving what I went through.
Your Turban is beautiful, it suits you s well. I am going to make this pattern because it reminds me of my mothers generation during the war years when so many women had to go to work in the factories. Turbans kept their hair tucked away fro dangerous machinery while they worked.
I wish I’d had this pattern when I lost all of my hair due to chemo treatments. I did make several hats to wear, especially since it was winter. My hair grew back, but it’s so thin now and I shed a significant amount every day. I’m sure it’s stress, but it’s something that will resolve with time. Since it is Breast Cancer Awareness month, I will say that I am 7 years cancer free! I had Triple Negative breast cancer, which does not affect my sisters. I was grateful for them! I hope this haircut will help you. You look beautiful in the turban!!
Hi Corinna. I go to a barber. Lol. I have them use a 5 blade all around the sides, neck, and back. I love it. It has to be cut every 6 weeks but it’s so nice.
@@justvintagecrochet imo, I think once you get the perfect cut for you, you’re going to love it. It’s cooler, easier, darling (imo), and unique. Lol I don’t think much of myself-do I? 😉
I have struggled with super fine hair all my life. I love to cover with hats or scarves. It makes me feel more glamorous than having my hair done at a salon!
You are so pretty that anything looks great on you! I thoroughly enjoy you tutorials!! Re vintage!! I always thought of vintage as early 1900s, but now I realize I AM VINTAGE!! I have been crocheting since 1960’s! I know many of these fashion project you have brought back! Excellent! And thank you! Keep going!!
I’m losing my hair due to pernicious anemia, which is an autoimmune disease similar to lupus. Its main symptom is low vitamin B12, but alopecia can also be a symptom as it makes the body attack the hair follicles. Thank you for both giving us free patterns and tutorials, and for helping to normalize hair differences.
I just searched crochet turban on RUclips and found a few more styles...fyi for those who might want to make different turbans. But of course THIS channel is the BEST !!!
I have dazzle. My mother used it in 1980 and i found it in thrift shops. I love the turbin it reminds me of my mother..I like Joan Crawford as an actress. Her private life not so great. I love all old movies.
Oh, that looks super squishy and soft! And it looks great on you! My Dad's cousin started losing her hair ages ago. She had almost nothing left on top when she started wearing wigs. But recently, she's ditched the wigs entirely and just wears turbans because they're more comfortable and less of a hassle. Also, I may have to try this stitch and make myself a nice, cozy scarf! ☺
I have been dealing with alopecia for quite awhile and even though my stylist is treating it, I often wear headwraps and headbands to cover my gray receding temples. Thank you for sharing this pattern. You are not alone in your hair loss journey.
The turban turned out wonderful. I am definitely going through a major hair loss myself. Winter is coming on and this turban will be a great dual purpose hat for me too. Thank you
Love the turban. Love the stitch pattern. Love Joan Crawford the actress (but not the person). IMO men's barbers are better for man-style cuts. You look beautiful in the turban.
It's just beautiful. Love the yarn. Have you tried bone broth? All that protein and collagen will help your hair and nails. It has helped me with my hair loss. I'm not shedding hardly any and it's growing back. Just a thought. You are gorgeous anyway. Live you❤❤❤
That looks so cute on you!❤ good luck with your haircut! Sounds like you are in a good frame of mind. It's just hair, don't let it's change upset or bother your mood. So not worth it! & Thanks for sharing...I LOVE this stitch. I can't believe how fast it works up! Going to try this for my headbands.
I have that exact same yarn and made a blanket. I used some Red Heart discontinued yarn called country blue and some navy along with it. My mom used that same dazzle aire in a colorful varigated color to make a cardigan for me when I was around 11 yrs.
I just made this. I do not usually crochet so I am very pleased that it turned out, fits, and looks nice! 👍. Thank you so much for resurrecting this pattern. ❤
That is a great stitch, and the turban looks great on you. I liked Betty Davis and Joan Crawford in What ever happened to Baby Jane. Crawford was suppose to be in Hush Hush sweet Charlotte, but they hated each, and, Davis didn't want her
Oh my goodness - you have some Dazzle! I was so sad when this yarn was discontinued. I loved working with it back when I first started crocheting and knitting.
I have this pattern and failed at making it two or three times. I just yelled "I WAS UPSIDE DOWN AND BACKWARDS" watching you work. Thank you! I can finally make my own!
Going through the same thing 😥 I've bought a few wigs but aren't comfortable wearing them yet. Thank you for sharing this pattern and thank you for being brave and sharing your hair loss story 💞
and thank you too , I just got my 1st wig not long ago, and wore it out for the 1st time last week, no one look at me different, and no one knew it was a wig :) you will find your comfort when your ready, I started by wearing them around the house
@@justvintagecrochet thank you for your kind words and support. The new wigs look so real. And an opportunity to have the hair styles I never had with my bio hair.
I remember these my aunt used to crochet these 😊 Thank you I hear you on the hair. I have 2 fur babies ,and I don't know who sheds more them or me !!😊 It's good, I've already told my husband he's going to have multiple wives every week ! A different colored wig for every week 😊 that's my plan !! That will make life exciting at 67 years of age !!😉😆

Great idea!

@@justvintagecrochet imo, I think once you get the perfect cut for you, you’re going to love it. It’s cooler, easier, darling (imo), and unique. Lol
I don’t think much of myself-do I? 😉
Your not alone with hair loss. Sadly many of us. God bless 🙏❤
I love that yarn. It works great. I wish some stores that yarn. I guess first they need to make it again. 😊
I love it. I’m losing hair too and I’ll be making a couple of these.
Im making myself another one now in dark chocolate , Im gonna use this diamond button I have for the jewel :)
I have struggled with super fine hair all my life. I love to cover with hats or scarves. It makes me feel more glamorous than having my hair done at a salon!
Ooo, Dazzleaire! My very favorite yarn. You'll love this.
Hey Corinna! You look absolutely smashing in that turban!!!🤎
Awesome both video and instructions thanks for your time and work efforts great for 75 yr. Old. Granny who still crochets ❤❤❤❤
That turban is so NORMA DESMOND. "I'm ready for my close up"
omg I love that!

I just searched crochet turban on RUclips and found a few more styles...fyi for those who might want to make different turbans.
But of course THIS channel is the BEST !!!
Loving the turban. Great instructions.
I have dazzle. My mother used it in 1980 and i found it in thrift shops. I love the turbin it reminds me of my mother..I like Joan Crawford as an actress. Her private life not so great. I love all old movies.
Very cool!
You look beautiful, very nice turban, thanks very much ❤️
Oh, that looks super squishy and soft!
❤ your turban with the pearls and lovely story too❣️🤩
Thank you! 😊
Very beautiful , you so good showing how to do, thank you.
Thanks so much 😊
I adore turbans. ❤ Keep shining, you are an inspiration. ❤
I really like the turban. I'm dealing with hair loss from cancer treatments and this caught my eye. I'm going to give it a try. I love your videos!
❤Losing hair do 😢to stress in my job and mourning my father and daughter. Thanks for the pattern.
The turban looks really cute on you!
I have been dealing with alopecia for quite awhile and even though my stylist is treating it, I often wear headwraps and headbands to cover my gray receding temples. Thank you for sharing this pattern. You are not alone in your hair loss journey.
Loved Joan in The Women. Great show. Love your “Joan”
I totally agree!
i'm so sorry about your hair loss, and I love your turban! Nice work.
It's just beautiful. Love the yarn. Have you tried bone broth? All that protein and collagen will help your hair and nails. It has helped me with my hair loss. I'm not shedding hardly any and it's growing back. Just a thought. You are gorgeous anyway. Live you❤❤❤
Love the turban! You are beautiful!
Thank you so much 😀
That pattern would be great for a shawl or scarf. Maybe a hoody
That looks so cute on you!❤ good luck with your haircut! Sounds like you are in a good frame of mind. It's just hair, don't let it's change upset or bother your mood. So not worth it! &
Thanks for sharing...I LOVE this stitch. I can't believe how fast it works up! Going to try this for my headbands.
Thank you so much!!
Good Work...IT fits you..and the Colour Matches to your skin👍🥂🇩🇪greetings from Germany
I have some of that yarn. Woohoo I'm ready. I have long hair, it's everywhere. I tie it up to cook & still it falls out.
You look beautiful with your hat. I love ❤️ it I'm going to make a couple for me. Love your vintage crochet work.
Thank you sweetie
Thank you! 😊
That is a great stitch, and the turban looks great on you. I liked Betty Davis and Joan Crawford in What ever happened to Baby Jane. Crawford was suppose to be in Hush Hush sweet Charlotte, but they hated each, and, Davis didn't want her
I love the colour and think you look beautiful in it.
Going through the same thing 😥
I've bought a few wigs but aren't comfortable wearing them yet.
I remember these my aunt used to crochet these 😊
Thank you
I hear you on the hair.
I have 2 fur babies ,and I don't know who sheds more them or me !!😊
It's good, I've already told my husband he's going to have multiple wives every week ! A different colored wig for every week 😊 that's my plan !!
That will make life exciting at 67 years of age !!😉😆
