  • A few of you have asked for a more in depth walk about of our 1956 Flat Fender Dodge Power Wagon, so here you go. The first half of the video is the techno-babble description about tires, engines and the good stuff, the last half is a 10 minute or so ride to our local fair where you can struggle to hear me talk going 30 miles per hour. I hope you enjoy this. If you did, please leave a comment and give it a thumbs up!
    Thank you.

    Beautiful truck and I love how you modified the oil filter system makes very good sense. I am planning on doing exactly the same thing you did with your brake reservoir the first time I saw how EXTREMELY limited the access was to the original I thought this has to be changed. The overdrive unit is sure nice, I have seen them before but am not adding one to my truck. The rear PTO pulley, IF and EVER you can find one they are truly like GOLD, I dont think I have ever seen one in person its really special your truck has one, that would I am sure be the talk of the any show your at!
    I bought a 50 FFPW that had 18K original miles on it and the only tids of rust were on the stake pockets in the box, replace a little metal in the questionable areas. When I tore the truck down to bare frame and got that powder coated and during reassembly and rebuilding of the differentials the rings and pinions had some pitting I ended up replacing both ring and pinions and all the bearings, unfortunately that also held true for the transfer case and transmission, full rebuilds required on all of it. The engine was overhauled and bored .040 over but went back together beautifully. When reassembling of course I powder coated the full driveline, of course all brake and fuel lines I went stainless steel on it all. When I had the entire chassis together I fired up the engine with the truck on blocks and went through all the gears, went into 4 wd and everything checked out perfect (what a relief)! The truck is now at the body shop and they are mounting the cab and the bed which are all freshly painted and then I will mount the rebuilt and powdercoated winch and complete the wiring! Your truck is an inspiration to get mine done! its beautiful and you should be proud!

    That’s a real beautiful flat fender truck! I wish my 1952 PW was as sharp as yours,mine starts and drives,when in 2nd gear, sounds like a jackhammer in tranny lol. I got gear oil leaking from every thing that holds it.mine has 20,000 lb. Tulsa winch on front and a telescopic type B Derrick boom that can be mounted on back or the front.it hasn’t touched pavement in years,just put put around farm.thanks for keeping that classic alive !

      Dave, sounds like your truck is still a work truck. Mine retired 10 years ago and lives the life of luxury inside my shop! The trans is not hard to rebuild, my guess is you have at least one bad bearing. I had one that pretty much lost all it's balls....!!! Thanks for subscribing!

    You did a very nice job on your truck and a very nice video the rims are split ring rims which are different from split rims a true split rim splits in the center of the rim and makes two halves of the rim which were outlawed many many years ago I just thought maybe you would like to know

    Soon as I finish my 1947 power wagon I will have to send you a picture and leave it to me. I’m not a stock man. I put a Dana 60 in the front Dana 80 in the back and LS three supercharge engine with a 6L 80 E transmission. i’ve got three years into it and probably a couple more to go. I would love to be able to get it on the road. Also have a 17,500 pound witch that I’m putting on it I got a new fenders new runningboards new bed still not sure what I’m gonna put in it yet but I’m sure not gonna paint it black! You have a very nice truck and I’m very envious.

    Excellent work. The power take off governor is a needle in a hay stack and a great addition to a rare option.
    I thought the rear PTO assembly I found in my hunt throughout the years was rare. Thanks for the great showcase of your build.
    Did you consider doing a power steering option ?

    • @WaynesWorldGarage
      @WaynesWorldGarage  5 месяцев назад +1

      Hi. Thanks for the comments! I put power steering on it! Steering this tank without it is crazy. And I'm an old man!
      Regarding the governor.... You are spot on. I see the PTO's come up all the time. As far as I know the only one who knows how they work is Clint Dixon. He helped me a lot. I have seen one other truck the governor. It was a pierce governor, not a King Sealey. And.... it is located three miles from my house!!! here is a short ruclips.net/user/shortsIM7L3M027nU?feature=share

    Hello Wayne, I love the video and the truck. Ive never owned an older truck and recently started looking into these trucks. They are very pricy however Im hoping to acquire one and am trying to speak with people that own one how much they paid and the cost of rebuilding one. I dont really want to spend 200k plus however it seems that the market is set for these old machines. Thanks in advance.

    • @WaynesWorldGarage
      @WaynesWorldGarage  5 месяцев назад

      Thanks for the comment. The Dodge Power Wagon's were expensive when new... They were 4WD, had a two speed transfer case, six drive shafts (if you have a front winch and rear PTO) and generally were a lot more complicated than the 2WD Ford and Chevy trucks. So to do it right costs a lot of time... Many of the parts are available, but they were meant to be heavy duty industrial trucks. And that means $$!! Sadly, just the paint to paint one cost 300-400 per gallon! And prep time? So a lot depends on what you want. My neighbor has a newly restored 52 PW. It is concours quality restoration. Absolutely perfect. Even the bolts, nuts and washers were plated!!

  • @blueduck9409

    Thats a nice truck. Maybe when that engine wears out you could look at putting a 318 or 360 engine in there? I dont know if it would make much difference tho. That old dodge is geared pretty low.

    • @WaynesWorldGarage
      @WaynesWorldGarage  8 месяцев назад

      I don't think this truck ever came with a V8! The L6 Flathead is barely 100 HP... People put 4BT's in them all the time. They fit well, and have 50-60 more HP. But.... then the entire drive train and suspension is designed for a farm truck.... so the transfer case gets hot, the transmission gets hot, etc. I rebuilt this 8 years ago... hopefully won't have to go inside it again!

    whats the stock tire size for an original power wagon

    • @WaynesWorldGarage
      @WaynesWorldGarage  2 года назад

      pretty sure it's 9x16. The split rims are 16" diamter, stock wheels I think are about 35" tall. The radials are 37" tall. Thanks!

      It's getting worse than that. I had a tow truck driver (dispatched by AAA from a large local tow company) come to pickup my 1965 C10 because of 2 issues that made it very unsafe to chance driving it back to the shop. The twenty-something young man driving the tow truck looked in the window at the column, after I drove it up on the flatbed and said, "oh it's an automatic trans?" I said no its a manual, it's a three on the tree. See the clutch pedal? He said what that mean? I've never seen that before! I got really nervous that this was the kid who was gonna be responsible for rolling it off the truck later (into a major intersection near my mechanic's shop) - but he assured me he knows how to drive a clutch/manual; I just had to go through the shift pattern with him since its not stamped anywhere on most every 3 on the tree cars/trucks. He was not a snowflake, but...@@WaynesWorldGarage
