I think there is far too much personification of the ‘Tory Party.’ Sure the government has done a lot wrong over the last 14 years, but it’s been a coalition of people, a few have done reasonable jobs, many haven’t. What however is a very bad thing for everyone is a sort of 1-party Labour run state. Labour will win, and fair enough, they probably are due a go but these comments just annoy me really. Trust me now, Labour will not be perfect, there will be a lot of complaints and who knows, they may well end up being just as bad.

I'm generally quite a cosmopolitan globalist who believes in more open borders. But I think we could quite easily head off that darker nationalism by embracing a more reasonable nationalism. And that immigration policy should primarily be based on what benefits them, both economically and culturally.

One thing I get from all of the middle & upper middle class commentators on immigration is we need it to keep wages down . There seems to be a huge acceptance in the ruling class that the poor working classes should stay poor for the benefit of the country. Establishment parties & commentators really come across as having real contempt for lower paid workers & quickly dismiss any hope of higher wages & improvement in there lives & just shout for more cheap workers from abroad.
Well, it is a trade-off. Migrant labour makes work more affordable. But yes, also undercuts local wages. If we could just be honest about that, then we could debate whether the trade-off is worth it. And help locals stay ahead, either by up-skilling, or through some sort of tax structure which prevents them being undercut too aggressively.

I'm generally quite a cosmopolitan globalist who believes in more open borders. But I think we could quite easily head off that darker nationalism by embracing a more reasonable nationalism. Rather than demonizing all nationalist sentiment as parochial bigotry. Fundamentally it's not unreasonable to believe that a nation state's government should prioritize its own citizens. And that immigration policy should primarily be based on what benefits them, both economically and culturally.

One thing I get from all of the middle & upper middle class commentators on immigration is we need it to keep wages down .
There seems to be a huge acceptance in the ruling class that the poor working classes should stay poor for the benefit of the country.
Establishment parties & commentators really come across as having real contempt for lower paid workers & quickly dismiss any hope of higher wages & improvement in there lives & just shout for more cheap workers from abroad.
Well, it is a trade-off. Migrant labour makes work more affordable. But yes, also undercuts local wages. If we could just be honest about that, then we could debate whether the trade-off is worth it. And help locals stay ahead, either by up-skilling, or through some sort of tax structure which prevents them being undercut too aggressively.

Our economy is not too small. The population is too large. Gross domestic product per head of population is the figure that matters. We need higher levels of productivity, not millions more low skilled jobs.
From the outside in, it's remarkable how much attention and platforming is guven to this guy and his non-party than establshed parties like the Lib Dems. I bet any time they would have been given will be used to let Farage bellow positions that he'll never have to prove.
It's because they are being polled on a higher vote share than the Lib Dems. Happy to help. Not everything is a conspiracy theory.
Same goes for the Greens.
Farage may never have been elected and the new-ish party of Reform may be as you call it a 'non-party' but that's all irrelevant - Nigel Farage has had more influence on British politics in the last three decades than Lib Dems and Greens combined!
I don't vote Reform Party or Nigel Farage, but he cannot be easily dismissed.
No sane person supports either of those except through the cons and labour.
Because when parties keep electing leaders who you can download and print on a Deskjet printer, no one cares what they say. Whether you like him or not, Nigel Farage is the most influential politician since Tony Blair. The other parties should be thinking, how can we get someone that capable to run our party so that people will listen? Just establishing a political party does not mean you have a God given right to people's ears.
