- The greatest trick/tip ever to get an engine to start. In this video I show you how to get your stubborn gy6 150cc scooter to start up after it has sat too long unused.
all i did was remove the filter and it started up first try.

I love how you're protecting your Joshua Tree!!! my 50 cc taotao is doing that now! only has 400 miles on it! running fine one day and then the next just did not want to start! my last taotaol which I still do have had over 6500 miles on it before it had its first major no start problem! but this stupid pony I bought had to have the exhaust gasket replaced at only 45 miles! and now this no start issue I'm going to try this in a few minutes I hope it works happy weekend! and if you ever hear a scooter honk honk beep beep up and around your hills you know it's me haha! PS I'm down the hill from you in Lancaster :)
Hello scooter friend! On my Gy6 the kick stand is a direct cut off to the engine. When the kickstand is down like yours is it wont egnite. If you have it on the central stand on the other hand it allways starts. The kick stand is a safety precaution in case if would fall down when driving since it can hook on to stuff. Best regards.
This really works!! Have a scooter that was insane, tried starting fluid right in the carb pluss plug, nothing. But this made it start right up

Kim I am familiar with anti start kick stand sensors but I usually notice them on more expensive scooters or non chinese scooters. My gy6 doesn't have one and all the others I have worked on so far.
this actually worked, i picked up a 49cc jonway that started using this method however when i take my hand away for any amount of time it starts to die. Dirty carb or is it a vaccume leak? I'm just a shade tree lmao. Any help or advice is appreciated
Clogged up carb......They are really hard to clean....."pilot jets" are really tiny.......At the time, a replacement carb was $20 and the carb in the video is fairly new and starting to clog up.......Good luck Bud
@@nitebirdscuffle4213 still better than dumpin more $$ into it, i have an old spare moped with a busted rear end that has a descent carb on her, i wonder how feasable it'd be to swap carbs? Also is it possible to check the e choke, or would a clogged carb cos it to seem abnormal?
.....All moped carbs are interchangeable, even with different size motors......=)......if you can fit it, it will spit gas =).......If the e-choke fails it will be on all the time....it's not causing the hard starts =) E-choke isnt a real choke to the carb.....its just an extra idle jet that gets closed off after certain amount of time from 12v .......Blow compressed air thru the carb and see if it spits misty gas out

So i tried cleaning the carb and got the main jet ultra clean but the pilot seems to be either clogged or just made that way i aint sure which but the 2 holes towards the bottom are clear yet the scooter still runs on the choke method shown in this video, so i jerked the one out of my other moped and got the exact same results.......wtf lol i have no idea whats wrong, bad gas maybe? i have no effin clue HELP!!!!!! lmao thanks......well finally cleared the pilot jet and she's runnin now, just gotta get all the crap gas out now, ty for the info and help have a good one
Cool! Is this the fix if you had some bad (old) gas in the tank? I flushed the tank and replaced with good gas, but the scooter won't start. Will give this a shot.
=) The gas was fresh .....The carb was a little gummed up even though it is almost new.......I have another video where you can soak a rag in gas and hold it over the air filter.....If your scooter will not start with that method you probably have a bad spark plug =)
Can it be the battery
Hi I hope you are still active i tried this and once I remove my hand it runs for 3 seconds then stops
You will have to clean out the carb or get a new one..........Most times you can blow compressed air through the carb and unclog it but Gy 6 has super small low speed jets.......
Hey man how are you? I have a scooter and it was sounding like that at first but then it just does a knock sound when I press on the start button

The gy6 has a lot of compression......A weak battery will lose a full charge in a short time.......11v on a compression stroke could be enough for the starter to knock/tick......you could try and kick start it past the compression stroke.....
@@nitebirdscuffle4213 I have a chinese scooter, it doesn't look like yours at, it was grinding like it wanted to start at first and then once I tried a few more times, i heard this tick tick sound, only when I press the start, if I leave my finger on it nothing will happen but if I press it, it does this tick tick or tok tok
It sounds like a weak battery or starter......the scooter in the vid needed a new starter and behaved similarly.....A weak starter will do that.......You can try jumping it with a car battery....if the motor doesnt turn over the starter is probably too weak and almost completely burned out......

Yep......really bad chinese carbs and fuel lines......The carb in the vid was nearly new but kept clogging......There are extremely small jets\veturi in the carb body in front of the butterfly that clog up.....fuel ines will hold dissolved rubber and reform into a clog at the jets......=)

Seems like your e choke is bad, not hooked up or just a cheapo. I would replace the complete carb.
I put a new carb on mine still won't start think it will be a vacuum line
soak a rag in gas and hold it over the intake .......if it starts the carb is clogged......if it does not start look for spark then check compression 175 to 200 ....anything less needs a rebuild

Sounds like the low speed or main jet might be clogged.....A good place to start is with the spark plug.....check for spark, gap and condition.........Next would be clean the carb.......Checking compression is a little different then normal with a gy6 but you should have 150-175 in first couple turns and up to 200 after once it gets some fuel.......Good luck......carbs used to be $20 for a new one.....

I put a new carb on mine still not trying to start spark plug got fire but seem like no fuel getting to it is it a vacuum
My gy6 150cc is hard to start after sitting for ~ more than two weeks. After it’s been sitting I usually try to start it and it won’t ignite so keep trying until the battery runs down, then charge the battery for 20 mins or so then it starts. If i ride it at least one day a week or so it starts up easily. It died on me once while riding so and the gas cap is not vented so i leave it semi loose now, not sure if that is why but it hasn’t died again, i might drill a couple of very small holes in the gas cap.
