Totally unessential I’m afraid. His passing had zero impact on the music they make, as he stopped having any musical input around 1982. Arguably his only contribution was antagonising Alan Wilder and forcing him out of the band.

The fact Depeche have refused to play this, Photographic, New Life, Puppets, Leave In Silence, etc in years is the reason I don't waste my money going to see them. They've totally alienated and screwed the fans who made them famous in the 80s. Unlike Erasure who make a point of always playing material from every album. What's funnier is Depeche are actually leaving out their better material. John The Revelator, give me a break!!!

New Life is the first single they ever released, Photographic (Some Bizarre Version)is the first song they ever recorded professionally and Ice Machine is one of the very early demos that Vince would send to record labels hoping to get the band signed to a contract.
Ice Machine actually came from their Composition Of Sound times when Vince was vocalist, so is one of their earliest tracks.
DM is not like the teeney bopper synth pop they used to be....no vince no alan rip andy
This was one of the very first songs Vince Clarke wrote when they were Composition Of Sound. The concert was very much in their "teeny bopper days". This song and all of Vince Clarke's material made them famous and Speak And Spell is superb. Songs like this, Photographic, Shout, Puppets, were not teeny bopper songs. Only for Vince, Depeche wouldn't have existed. They were Fletch's words.
