@@antonsedits This and "Puppets", I think. That song seems to be about one person controlling another, obviously, although some believe that it's about addiction, which would make it even more DM-like. And maybe "Photographic" is also a bit like what we normally think of as DM. So Vince was already sort of doing DM before he left, while Martin's earliest songs "Tora Tora Tora", "Big Muff", "The Meaning Of Love", and "See You" were ironically rather un-DM-like.
@@rbrtck Martin and Vince are very different composers, I think it's those early synths that make the early songs sound quite similar, even if they are not.
@@antonsedits I'm talking about the moods and themes of the songs, not the synths. "Puppets" isn't very much like "Dreaming of Me", and I've come across DM fans who didn't realize that Vince had written "Ice Machine" and "Any Second Now" (the version with lyrics sung by Martin).
I believe this is the most melancholy piece Vince Clarke ever wrote for Dépêche Mode which I find mesmerizing and I stay focused while I listen and don't want to be interrupted!
A я в 15 лет(1986) гонял их альбом синглов 1981-1985. И вот,в 51 год открываю для себя заново,слушая все альбомы целиком. Это замечательно! Ice machine похоже лучшая из ранних Депешей.

I don't know what it is, but no digital VST can live recreate the raw, unmitigated, electricity-through-wire sound of analogue synthesizers. More so if it's manhandled by relentless music pioneers like Vince Clarke.
I discovered this song after 40 years even though I've been listening to DM for more than 20 years. This song is exceptional. I wonder when was the last time they played it during a concert. DM, please add it to the setlist.
I recently bought an American CD pressing of "Speak And Spell", on the Mute/Rhino label, and was extremely disappointed that "Ice Machine" and "Just Can't Get Enough (Schizo Mix)" weren't included like a British CD Import I owned years ago! I'm now trying to find that illusive Import!!!
Nice demonstration that pirating is sometimes also useful, if all the laws were respected this incredible footage would not exist, the proliferation of mp3 and DivX in the early 2000s either, and today's companies which sell movies and music on the Internet weighing billions either. You also owe your billions to pioneers of piracy.
Fantastic. If you were at one of these early shows to experience this, consider yourself one of the luckiest humans on planet Earth.
As a depche mode member, this was definitely Vince Clarke’s best song.
Mr Anderson member of boot 👢
His most Depeche mode song :)

So raw. The essence of punk morphed into New Romantic. Classic early mode. What I wouldn't give to have been there.
Vince Clarke's masterpiece. What a fantastic song!!!!!!!
The future of synth pop.

I believe these lads will be around for a long time, despite all the bollocks the press is saying about them being just a novelty act.
Still one their best songs!
19 yr old my god...
Showed that Vince Clarke did have a dark side to his songs!
This is the best strong voice I've ever heard in my life .
Love the rawness of analogue synths in tracks like this
The key changes and harmonies are just mesmerising

How you can't fall in love for a voice like that? And what music!!! At least 20 years forward all the others
This is absolutely every bit of 20 years ahead of all the rest if not more. Absolute forerunners

Мне одному этот лайф показался бодрее что ли, энергичнее альбомной версии. То, что не хватает "чистовику", тут есть. Спасибо выложившему за это видео!
