If I had a Nickel in my pocket for every dark time these guys helped me through since the early 80s, I would have about 10 bucks in coins weighing down my trousers.
I can see why Daniel Miller wanted to sign them the first time he saw them. They must have been like a breath of fresh air for him "silicon teens" come alive. Thanks for uploading!
Huge Kraftwerk influences present during Vince Clark era but no surprises there; K were the electronic music gods in early 80's. To put this performance in perspective - this is the same club Joy Division performed not long before - Paradiso was major league; not bad for such a young band in all regards.
I think it was very difficult for many bands of a certain genre not to become influenced by the might JD and Ian in particular in the early 80's. It's still happening to some degree; fortunately emulations usually fall short of IC's tragic demise.
Unique original tunes like this deserves much reeespect..! ;-o ! It's nice to hear this being played because as with you it has had a profound influence on my life, very inspirational stuff! thanks for the upload! It's great to connect :)
There is a quite a few clips with Vince in from the early days. Type in Depeche Mode 1981 on her and you will be surprised. Puppets is worth checking out plus the lo-fi Television Set
Fantastic and ultra rare footage. That 30+ year old tape got digitized just in time before it got disintegrated completely, I guess. Thank's for sharing! (BTW, did you shoot that footage yourself? You must have had strong arms at that time to be able to hold that camera up for such a long time...)
Koffes kanal Thanks for this upload - just discovered it! To update you though re a comment you left re an unnamed / not recognised song. It is in fact Sometimes I Wish I Was Dead. It appeared on the UK version of Speak & Spell, but not on the US version. It was also released on a flexidisc (thin vinyl disc) with a UK magazine called Flexipop (which each month gave away a cover-mounted flexi single) in a slightly different, re-recorded version.
Sorry for the late reply. Thanks for the comment. I am happy that you liked the upload. I have Sometimes I wish I was dead on my Swedish Speak&Spell Vinyl too.
Okay --what are the 2 songs between "Whats Your Name" and "Dreaming of Me" called? Never released by DM best I can tell...and neither of them are "I Like It" :-)
Yeah Brian's the shit! I remember a discussion about this cover tune and how that lead to Brian F. being an artist to follow for Powerful new wave music! -Thanks for the comment! ...pitter-patter pitte- pater...I'm going on a Brian Hunt, a Brian Hunt, I'm goin' on a Brian hunt a Brian Hunt! re: ymca days flashback alla the sudden!! xD

Saw the same concert but in Brussels. Believe it or not, cost me 3 euros. With Vince Clark before Yazoo.

+Martin George David acts pretty much like Ian Curtis, especially the strange dance moves.

I would've loved to have been at that JD show, or this one, for that matter. Those times were Pure Gold. Cheers
