Learn the ac method for factoring and solving a quadratic equation

  • we find two factors of the product of the constant term (the term with no variable) and the coefficient of the squared variable whose sum gives the linear term. These factors are now placed in separate brackets with x to form the factors of the quadratic equation.
    There are other methods that can be used to achive this including the AC, Berry, Box, Grouping, diamond and mental technique. Once we have factored the quadratic equation, we then apply the product property to solve our equation. When solving a quadratic equation we call our solutions the zeros, x-intercept, and roots.

    I love the large X idea to separate everything. It helps me sort what steps I need to take. This whole videos is great. I, too, was confused about why it was 3x+1, but zee Unveil explained below about how you "merge" the two 3x-5's because they're the same factor. So, you're left with one of the (3x-5)'s and the two remainders, which are (3x+1). That's an important step to explain next time. Still...tyvm, good sir! :)

      The quadratic method is super easy in this case and it took me about 60 seconds to find the roots AND plug them into the equation. If A (the coefficient of the x^2 term) is not 1 or 2 then I don't waste time trying to factor it manually. The quadratic formula never fails.

      Oh, for those who don’t know, I figured it out.
      You put into parentheses one of the original expressions you had. In this case: (3x-5)
      Then put into parentheses the two outside terms. This being 3x and 1 to get (3x+1)
      So then you write it as (3x+1)(3x-5)

    Hi Mr Brian M. This equation simply by Factorisation (3X square +1)(3X square -5)=0 then (3X square+1)=0 so 3X= -1= X= -1/3 ; (3X-5)=0 then 3X=5 n X=5/3 Ans is X= -1 or 5/3.

    On the fourth part where you get (3x - 5)(3x + 1) = 0, where did you get the positive 1 from? Isn't it supposed to be (3x - 5)(3x - 5) = 0?

      no try multiplying it back out

    • @Tzuyuuu.
      @Tzuyuuu. 5 лет назад +4

      Ji m what you did was multiply from the inside only. You’re supposed to combine the outside terms then bring down the 3x-5 so in this case, (3x+1) (3x-5) is correct because both the 3 and the 1 is out of the parentheses

      sry i know this is a late reply but 3x-5 is a common factor so they get regrouped as one. and then the term that's outside gets grouped as 3+1. idk if that helped

    amazing video, but one thing. At the end, when you say factor out what they have in common, why do you say (3X - 5)(3X + 1) ??
