How do you measure that
I'm 35 and always end up dating younger girls. I look like I'm in my early 20's so I think it makes it harder for women my age to be into me because they think I'm a kid. That being said, its hard to date young girls. There is a clear mentality difference when I date a 21 year old. I've found 26/27 is a good age because generally people start knowing what they want in life and the partying and childish behavior isn't there...as much.

I've actually dated ten years in each direction. I truly have no preference, the girls who were 10 years older than me when we dated were pretty much using me as a rebound, they wanted to feel young and I knew I was a short term thing. The girls ive dated who were ten years younger were kind of the same to me...It was just superficial. Everyone of my meaningful relationships have been with people a year or two younger or older than me.
I am in my 60s and would not look at a woman under 50 y/o.
I rather be with someone my own age, maybe a couple of years older if they still look and act young.....but I have been with guys and in a couple of relationships that the guys were in their 30's and that would be 10 to 15 years younger than me!
These days the guys my age or older, just don't take care of themselves anymore and look a lot older than they are (lots of grey hair, beards, wrinkles, beer bellies, baggage, old fashion standards) and just don't have the fun spirit and stamina to keep up anymore!
I'm older but people always guess much younger, so I can lie and say I'm 10 or 15 yrs younger and people will believe me, some that are younger actually think they are older than me when we first meet!

When I turned 21 I didn't want to date anyone under 20. I like to go to bars and watch live music a lot and if you weren't 21 or turning 21 anytime soon it was a deal breaker.
I'm 25 now and I'll go four years up or four years down from my age. My mom's 4 years older than my dad so that's where I got my base. Plus I want someone like-minded. I want someone mature enough to talk about world issues and deep topics with, but immature enough to laugh at stupid shit and still go out at 10pm and come home at 3am.

But age doesn't define maturity. I'm just saying that because I'm 19, but the fact people think age is important because it defines knowledge and maturity is beyond me, maturity and knowledge is based upon the person not their age.
BlueLucozade It's not like I dismiss young people's intellect just because they're young. I was a 19yo once, I know how mature and knowledgable that age group can be. I just don't want to *date* anyone from that age group because it's highly unlikely I'd find someone like-minded, who'd want the same things out of life that I want. Who can be immature and mature on the level I find attractive.

It is a bit of a complicated topic though, considering that society uses age as a measure for particular privileges, or use it as a filter, it kind of does matter in some special cases.
However that's society - not my opinion, my opinion is: Screw age, I don't care how many earth rotations ago you were born, I care about your character, your physical attributes, and your personal life =)

It mainly depends on the mindset of the individual. People growing up decades apart, like one who is 40 compared to another being 20 (yeah, big gap there), they really cannot relate on many levels (music, culture, experiences, etc.), typically, so it really doesn't tend to work out. There are exceptions to every rule out there though.
I think that it's best people grow up with each other and stay together at roughly the same age. That is where it's likely the bond will remain strong; they're not strangers to each other then, but feel like life (past and present) partners, not just two strangers who've been through a lot over the last 10-15 years and finally met, yet cannot really relate to them on a deep level. It's just different.
The sooner (high school sweethearts?) you hook up with someone with plans to stay together for life, the better, imo.

i'm 19 so at the moment i have a three year limit. if she is beyond three years older then shes too old, if shes below three years younger then shes too young. I'd rather stick to my generation and date people that i can relate to. maybe when i get past 30 years old i will expand the limit.

I read somewhere that there is a formula for the youngest you should go in age to still be able to get along......take your age, divide it in half, and add 7
Eg: 50 year old divided by 2 = 25 + 7 = 32 youngest you should go
30 divided by 2 = 15 + 7 = 22 youngest you should go .....etc....
40 divided by 2 = 20 + 7 = 27
60 divided by 2 = 30 + 7 = 37
I could go either way, I'm 24 male and would go down to 18 just as long as we connect. Around 30 I would go up to.

I'm 18 and would possibly date someone a year younger than me and I've dated someone who is four years older than me and I would possibly date someone up to seven years older then me depending on their personality and maturity level. Though keep in mind most people think I'm around 21 so those difference don't seem like as big a gap as it might to others.
I thought the general rule for dating someone younger than you was to divide your age by 2 and then add 7. So as a 28 year old (28/2=14. 14+7=21) The absolute youngest person I should date would be 21 years old. Although that seems too young to me personally. I think I would go no younger than 24 and no older than 35.

I think women misinterpret high testosterone levels in men as "immature", but men are like this for a reason: we are the hunters with high energy. We're not typically into boring stuff like sitting around all calm and 'chatting' about things for hours.
Many guys can do it, yes, but most would probably rather do high energy activities if they could. If you were to look at stereotypes then males are way more into sports activities, mountain climbing, doing pranks and etc. We have to release this energy. We're not in our natural habitat in the wild while in this modern society. The wild is where this energy would be put to good use for hours at a time. In this society, it's way too controlled.
Once people look at how we're naturally supposed to live, in the wild, then the answers will be easier to grasp onto for why men and women think and act a certain way.

PHILOSOPHICALLY: There is "Chronological Age", defined as your birth date. "Biologic/Physiologic Age" is how old your body and mind actually is. The latter is your true age. If you are 61, feel in your heart and act like a 40 y/o, and really can "Pass" (Physically) for 40s, then you can say you are 40. 40 IS THE NEW 60. Age is a mind set thing. No person should place a boundary on age when it comes to love, or friendship. There is really nothing as "Time" in the Cosmos. Time is man made. The caveat is NOT TO BREAK THE LAW with respect to minors. A 100 year old man can get with a legal age female of 18, if there is SINCERE mutual CONSENT, and attraction. Socially bizarre , yes, but if works for both who cares. If 80-90 y/o rich wealthy men can marry models in their 20s, then an average man in good health should be able to do the same, Somehow, society hypocritically wants to exempt those men based on power, wealth, or influence, which is BS.
PRACTICALLY: If the guy or woman looks good, and they are both very attracted to each other, they should go for it if they're really drawn to one another unless for some extenuating circumstances it is not practical. Sometimes a young woman may want to start a family and would like both parents to be around to see their great grand children together. So she keeps the age difference narrow. If that is not a concern other factors such as family member objections, and threats of isolation, outcast, etc. get in the way. My inclination is a woman over 40-45 can date/marry any man above her age without limit, and down to any age over 18 for sex, and over mid 20s for companionship, depending on what she wants out of the relationship.
Both sides could use the ages of their children, or parents as guidelines to avoid heated/intense criticisms. For sex, any combination of legal ages b/w 18 to 120 should work as long as everybody is on board. For public socializing it's pretty much do wtf you want based on your particular situation. No "One shoe fits all" type of sh*t here.
