I'm a Coke Zero guy now. I can't even go back to regular Coke, it's too sweet.
Drink Mexican coke that is sweetened with real sugar, instead of high fructose corn syrup or aspartame, both of which are poison
I love coke zero, but artificial sweeteners are hundreds to thousands of times sweeter than sugar
@@nathanlee1161 the actual fact about aspartame is it is only dangerous if you have like 20 cans of diet soda daily.
and if you have that much obviously youre not healthy and deserve the ill effects. try water more often.
Same dude. Same
After drinking Coke Zero and Diet Coke for years, Coca-Cola Classic tastes like syrup.
"not the kind of weight loss people wanted" That was savage af 🤣😆
When Diet Coke Lime first came out, I drank an entire two liter bottle.
I didn't sleep all night.
My weird story about Diet Coke with lime is that there was an odd can of it kicking around my house. I decided to try it one night. I liked it better than regular Diet Coke. My then-boyfriend was drinking - of all things - tawny port. I asked for a sip of it, after I'd had a sip of Diet Coke with lime, because I wanted to try a bit of this new bottle of his. The combination of the two flavors was wild! It made the port taste like raisins!
We used to be part of the Diet Coke Cult. Then we left and joined the Coke Zero Cult. I just can’t go back to Diet Coke now 😂
Same, Diet Coke doesn't hit the spot anymore
I don’t blame you; CZ has a more profound taste to it.
I now drink the off brand zero sugar sodas. We have always drank off brand. With the zero sugars coming to market far better we have 100% switched.
Truth!!!
I'm fine switching back between either
I recently had a Coke Zero for the first time. i was surprised how good it tasted. I'm not a big soda drinker but this was good.
Yeah Coke Zero is terrific, although I miss the prior recipe. Funnily enough, I'm drinking a Cherry Coke Zero right now watching this video
I remember the Batman ad on the vhs 📼 so good and iconic 😅
"Just for the taste of it!!! Diet Coke!" *Followed by Bugs and Daffy trying to sell me. Warner Bros. Catalog.
Love Batman and cute pic..❤
Same! If memory serves, that was Batman Forever.
“Just for the taste of it.”
Nostalgia Critic: No, no, no. That’s the LAST reason anyone drinks Diet Coke®. The first reason is because….well because Batman drinks it.
The Diet Voltron joke was pretty great :)
Right! That one got me too. Now I want to find those different Diet Cokes just to make a Diet Voltron out of the cans.
Pics if you do it!!!@@skyden24195
I was a Coke drinker until my A1C got a little high. I switched to Diet Coke and after I got healthy again, I couldn’t handle the sweetness of regular coke anymore. 😂
If you’re friends with your local convenience store manager, they can talk to the Coke guy if the mix is a little weird and he can adjust it. Another big thing with the flavor is the dispenser tips getting cleaned regularly.
As far as the aspartame, on the rare occasions I make myself give up soda, with regular coke I was a little tired, but with Diet Coke I felt like I had a flu for 4-5 days.
Weight loss 😂😂😂😂
I have been at a healthy weight drinking both. I have been at an unhealthy weight drinking both. The only thing that affects my weight is how much I move my body.😂
Diet Coke Lemon was the best. I miss it so much.
I miss it every single day
I thought coors beer was the silver bullet! & coors light Lol I remember the coors train in commercials way back in the late 70”s &80”s
Just Coors light. Coors has a yellow can. Source: I drink Coors.
I get goose bumps just opening a can of diet coke. The first sip.. heaven
@@user-kr6jg6qb7l Nothing mindless about it, a diet coke a week isn't gonna kill anybody
@@user-kr6jg6qb7ljust as valid as enjoying any other beverage, even alcoholic
same i drink diet coke because it cancels out the calories from other foods i eat yes i am fat but i havent gained much weight at all maybe 15 pounds this year but when i drank regular coke i was gaining weight twice as fast yes i eat a bad diet and a lot of fast food but diet coke has helped me a ton i have a thyroid problem and the medicine i take makes me gain weight so i cant lose weight but i can slow down weight gain i tryed switching to lean pockets instead of hot pockets and now i only eat hot pockets half the time and lean pockets the other half and its helped as well
@@Travybear1989 you should try making home made hot pockets :)
@@Travybear1989Dude how can you be eating hot pockets and drinking coke and blame your weight gain on having a thyroid problem. Drink water and eat fresh food see how much weight you lose
Back in the days of the 2 martini lunch, my boss used to order a double Mount Gay and Tab, which tasted frankly like poison to me!
My aunt says that Tab tasted like liquid Benadryl. I like Tab better than Diet Coke. To me Diet Coke is sickly sweet.
History of root beer please!!
As a Pennsylvanian, yes! Also birch beer, please.
That’s not the way most people want to lose weight. 😂😂😂
You had me rolling the whole video!
😂😂😂😂
I thought Coors was the "Silver Bullet" beverage? @0:16
It was a joke
I am in fact part of the Diet Coke cult. As a 90s baby this was literally the only soda kept in our house and I despise regular coke and whole Coke Zero is good it tastes a little too sweet to me. Nothing is better than an iced Diet Coke😍
yep every time i go to mcdonalds i get the double quarter pounder with cheese meal and a large diet coke there diet coke tastes the best and it helps cancel out the calories so im basically eating a diet meal instead of fast food which is great i use to drink regular coke but noticed i was getting fat and hit the 250 pound mark and couldnt see my feet so i switched to diet coke a month ago and i actually like it better then regular coke it just tastes really good i always keep at least 3 2 liters of diet coke in my fridge and a 24 pack of cans for when im on the go driving or whatever cuz i dont really like the taste of water and diet coke has no calories so its basically like drinking water
If only it really worked that way. I was a Diet Coke addict for years. I quit about 9 years ago. I miss having a drink I can get almost anywhere. i also miss the taste I remember but when I taste it now it doesnt taste like I remember. It sucks. There is no soda I can drink. They either taste like chemicals or syrup.
Pretty sure MatPat from Game Theory has all these people beat with how much he consumes🤣 as he once said “if you cut me open I’ll just bleed Diet Coke”😂😂
That is probably the most accurate fact about MatPat *ever*
@@BeyondDaX Legit came here from his final Food Thorey ep

I only found your channel 2 days ago and I'm absolutely fascinated by well done sir 🍻
Growing up in England in the 80s and 90s the nostalgia is amazing !
That gold can for the caffeine free coke hits different
Ahh yes love me a big glass of carbonated brown water 😂😂 but seriously how do you drink sugar free and caffeine free soda!?
@@jason3280the caffeine free Coke Zero is pretty good. When you can’t have caffeine, it is a great option!
Noticing the most unhealthy people leaving stores with cartloads of this stuff is enough evidence it should not be drunk by anyone.
A+ video!
LOVE IT! What an amazing video!
IMO Diet Coke is tolerable at best, but I know so many people that live for this drink. I just don’t get it.
i don’t drink soda enough to justify drinking Diet Coke (or even Diet Pepsi)
The sugar replacement gives me a kind of a chemical taste in my mouth. Thanks but no thanks.
The coke zero is better then diet coke somehow. Even though it's also kinda meh.
It burns so good.
@@rogerk6180 It’s got the same chemical taste as the diet version.
I used to drink Tab and Fresca
Yes me too and Diet Rite 🥤
@@emilym3139 yes 🥤🙂
Ah Fresca, the distinctive sparkling refresher with a light citrus taste!
@@WarBeasty yes 😀
Those were my favorites as a teen. I later got into diet Pepsi until I stopped drinking soda 25 years ago.
Please do The History of Pepsi
Good idea
Why not? There have been other RUclips videos that covered Pepsi's history.
@@melissacooper8724 Weird History Food would do a WAY Better Job. Just Sayin.
@NASCARFAN93100 I agree with you. Weird Food History usually makes things a lot more interesting to learn.
I absolutely love Tab. I was seriously disappointed when they discontinued it a few years ago. If they ever bring it back temporarily, I'll buy $10,000 worth.
My aunt drank Tab back in the 70’s when I was a kid. I had no idea it was the pre Diet Coke product! I’m a Diet Pepsi girl myself. 😁
I was a Diet Coke addict for years. I would drink 8-10 cans a day. It was bad. I quit about 8.5 years ago and I cannot go anywhere near it now. My husband still drinks it but not as much as I ever did. I feel much better not drinking it. I had bladder control issues from it plus the caffeine made my sleep horrible. It was terrible. People dont realize how bad it is. I tasted it a while ago and it’s horrible. It’s like pure chemical tasting. Ugh.
Whew! Our favorite narrator, so an instant upvote! I actually miss Tab, I loved it!
I only remember Tab and “Pepsi Free” from that joke in Back to the Future
There was also an old Simpsons episode where Homer was starting to use a computer and he was wondering why no soda because he hit the Tab button
Okay, things I've experienced firsthand.
1: I cannot stand the taste of artificial sweeteners, natural (stevia, etc.) included. And there should be a posted warning on everything that uses them.
2: My girl in my 20s was addicted to Tab. We went on a "vacation" to SoCal soon after they stopped selling it in NorCal. Conveniently she was able to fill (FILL!) her trunk with flats of Tab while we were there. I think there were a couple of 12ers in the back seat as well.
3: My buddy at work used to run the vending machines. The soda vend had two hoppers for Diet Coke. When I asked about it he said "Most of the office staff drink it and they get very angry when it runs out. It seems to be a thing with Diet Coke fans.".
9:50 Hahaha!
But seriously...that is awesome!
Mattpat from the game theory LOVE die coke
Here for this comment.
I was low key hoping to see a cameo from a certain Game/Fooed/Film/Style theorist who's infamous for loving Diet Coke 🤣
I'm 34y.o. That back to the future reference to Tab finally makes sense.
I think a reason could've been MatPat.
I've been insulin dependent for a number of years and ever since I first tasted Diet Coke I've thought it was nasty. It's easily my least favorite diet soda. Coke Zero is a nice alternative these days and I love the way it tastes.
I much prefer diet Coke over Coke Zero. Ace K has a funny aftertaste to me, in whatever drink it's in.
Listening on the road, stopping right now because I need a fountain diet coke 😊
I've watched Back To The Future so many times and I didn't know he was actually ordering for a soda, I just thought he just wanted to open a tab out of nowhere
I swore off all artificial sweeteners, they give me the worst nausea for some reason
They make me really hungry
When I first heard System of a Down, I saw their video for "Sugar." In the video, there was a brief image of a cherry pie, and it said, "Aspartame kills ". It stuck with me, and eventually, I learned that stuff was in Diet Coke. I stayed away from that stuff since, and eventually, cut down on soda altogether. If I do drink a soda nowadays, I'll have a Mexican coke.
The Tab issues was also Tab's saccharin content which was targeted as cancer causing agent. That wasn't sold after the fallout. So Coke switched to aspartame as the sweeter with Diet Coke.
I stopped drinking soda 11 yrs ago but i love flavored seltzer water. San pelligrino hibiscus blueberry is sooooo good but i drink polar seltzer most of the time. Its a New England brand.
Great job! Your body will thank you
I like diet coke
6:13 Great image!
There are some moments when I grab those silvery can in supermarket. I love Original one and Zero one but I like Diet one too!
Matt pack is going to love this episode
All I can think of seeing Phineas is the scene in Beetlejuice with Adam and Barbara elongated creepy faces
5:39 Whitney Houston had the #1 hit on my 13th birthday (when I became a teenager) with the song "I Will Always Love You."
What about Diet Coke+ (plus) When they jammed it with vitamins; possibly one of their best flavors
I’d have to play a week’s worth of Disc Ultimate/Ultimate Frisbee matches in a row just to use up all the excess sweet stuff 😂😂😂
(walks in to see if anyone made a comment related to MatPat)
(sees several such comments and walks back out, nodding approvingly)
Who else is drinking sugar free soda while watching this video? :)
Oh, this one Matpat will enjoy
Thanks for this! 🥤 I still drink caffeine-free diet coke, every so often.
Proud member here!
My highschool English teacher always had a can of Tab right before class started.
Grew up on Diet Rite as my older brother was a Type 1 diabetic from 5 years old. I don't think I tasted sugary soda until junior high, at someone else's house.
good video
I remember before diet coke when drinking Tab I learned to add a splash of regular coke to the glass to make Tab taste much better or like "Real Coke". Like going to the movie getting a big cup of Tab & telling them to ad a shot of reg. coke to improve the taste. Did anyone else do that? Shalom
In Australia, Diet Coke is very hard to find these days compared to Coke Zero. Plus Pepsi max seems to be the top diet cola now
5:29 Elton John had the #1 hit on my 18th birthday with ""Something About the Way You Look Tonight" / "Candle in the Wind 1997"

This is a matpat episode
At the soda fountain i love to mix my sodas lol but certain kinds. ❤lol..
Finished my diet coke right before I opened the video and now I wish I had another one.
I love Coke Zero. I have a sensitivity to real sugar and the various Zero products bring unhealthy max joy to my life. Sprite Zero is my favorite since it's caffeine free and, well, Sprite.
Of course, water is best and unless Im feeling depressed, sodas are out. But hey, once it's been cloudy for six weeks straight, Coke Zero and Sprite Zero it is! 😂❤🎉
My top soda
Orange, Grape, Fruit punch, Ginger ale, Root Beer, Diet Coke, and Cream Soda.
I love Diet Coke now from Zero I do get a case of Zero for the palate like with pizza etc. but Nothing beats an Ice cold Diet Coke! Amazing
I love the flavored diet cokes as a mixer.
I was exclusively a Diet Pepsi drinker until about 6 years ago when they changed the sweetener which completely changed the taste and I hated it. I reluctantly switched to Diet Coke and haven’t looked back.
I'm Italian;
I am team wine
Matpat flashbacks
I'm not a big soda drinker, I maybe drink one a day, and it'sI always diet. For the simple reason that aspartame just tastes a lot better in soda than regular sugar or corn syrup. It also doesn't seem to leave me as bloated.
I'm team milk or water. Perhaps the occasional glass of brewed iced tea. I'm all set with soda. I'd rather get my calories from ice cream
You understand diet coke has no calories, right?
@@matteframe Yes, I do. I also know that it's been intrinsically linked to weight gain
Thank you for this I love diet Coke. N it's my favorite drink to buy at Disneyland. Lol. Can u do Dr. Pepper. ❤

Wow... really released this after one of the biggest Diet Coke addicta
0:32 An outfit similar to that would be great for a druid costume!
If I can construct a great druid costume and background history, that will be my Halloween costume this year.
I like the Diet Coke with Lime, unfortunately, I haven't been able to find it in a awhile.
Some years ago, I dated a man from metro Minneapolis who was a Diet Coke addict. He would drink Diet Coke for breakfast, right before bed, throughout the day, etc. Always consumed from the same stainless steel car cup (filled with ice) and always from countless cans that he opened per day. He claimed that Diet Coke from a can was 'fizzier' than from a 2 litre bottle. He also claimed that as a recovering alcoholic, drinking Diet Coke was 'healthy' and 'better than booze' and 'nothing to worry about'. However, when actually keeping track of how much Diet Coke he drank, we discovered that he was consuming between three to four LITRES per day and every day. No, he didn't feel that was excessive. Yes, our relationship didn't last more than a month or so (no regrets dumping him!).
Thanks for sharing!
A few nitpicks: Diet Coke was developed before Nutrasweet was approved. It had to work as a saccharin sweetened drink first, and to get this to work, Coke just kept tweaking a diet cola-ish formula until they found something that tasted pretty good with the least amount of complaints that people had about diet sodas of that era. The fact that it didn't taste anything like Coke Proper was not a concern, it was not the goal. Aspartame had been around for over a decade though and they had to been considering how well this drink would work with it whenever it finally got green-lit by the FDA.
And don't forget the whole (sugary) New Coke fiasco. That new formula? An offshoot of Diet Coke experimentation, just with fructose.
Coca-Cola was my go-to since I was a kid. Later in life after diabetes set in I've recently discovered diet Mt Dew. It's amazing and is a great rum chaser 😅
1:30 That is a Lat pull-down bar on a cable machine.
Diet Coke is definitely one of my vices. I have a fairly healthy lifestyle. But i absolutely love Diet Coke. On average a drink about 7 ice cold cans a day.
FYI: You may want to know that there are markets where Diet Cola was withdraw. In Poland Diet version is no longer in sell. We only have Cola Zero/Sprite Zero/Fanta Zero. For me it is ok, I prefer this taste, but some of my friends were quite sad about this shift.
Hmm! Learning about the sweetener change in rebranded Tab makes me no longer think Diet Coke must have used the New Coke formula! I don't like it and prefer Diet Pepsi, but still equally enjoy Coke Zero and Pepsi One !
A Diet Coke episode during the same week that Matt Pat retires. I see your tip of the hat weird history
Was a diet coke addict for many years, haven't touched one past year and a half. All water now, stay hydrated.
I grew up on Diet coke. I'm a diet coke lover!
Stacker 2 is a diet product, can you cover that one day?
Unsweet tea... that's all the diet I need
Is it diet food worse for you than regular food? Because of all the stuff they have to take out they have to replace with worse things
I believe so. For instance, fat free foods had more sugar in them than full fat foods.
Another example is milk. The less fat content, the more carbs/sugar it has.
@justgod613 Really? I usually buy whole milk anyway when I buy it. I always thought that the fat-free milk and 1% milk looked watered-down and disgusting!
I never liked sugar drinks, so, I started drinking Coke Light because it was the only one available at the time. When Coke Zero came out, it was better. Unfortunately, when they changed the formula to the current Coke Zero Calories, the taste changed for the worse. I went back to Coke Light and sticking with it.
Coke Zero went through 3 versions. We all liked the original and were terrified when they announced mark 2. Turns out the 2nd version was actually a little bit better than the launch version. Everyone was happy.
Then they changed it again. The goal was not to improve the flavor - they replaced sodium with potassium to make the drink healthier. Potassium has a bitter finish on the taste buds.
Coke Zero is still pretty good when drank with a meal. But the standalone experience can't match what mark 2 of the beverage accomplished.
Diet Pepsi forever!
what are your sources? 🥺🥺
I have a weird habit. I mix regular Coke half-half with Diet Coke. Regular is too sweet, and Diet is too bitter, but mixing them together is "just right". Just like Goldilocks.
One of those 1980s celebrity Diet Coke commercials featured WWF wrestler Sgt. Slaughter. I guess the idea of a big, fat, beer bellied rassler endorsing Diet Coke when his actual favorite beverage was probably an ice cold Budweiser was what Coca-Cola considered genius marketing.
diet coke is revolting, vanilla coke zero is where its at!
Aspartame is made from proteins found in our food and our body. I would worry more about other things before I worried about sweeteners.
10:27 - 10:30
I just found my spirit animal.
The problem is in overseas markets Diet Coke is becoming harder to find, especially Asia! And contrary to popular belief many of us don’t drink it with the intention to lose weight, but rather we can’t have sugar or for me the taste of Diet Coke is bold, crisp, and refreshing without the sugar crash and syrupy stomach feel of Regular Coke! Don’t get me wrong, I love them both at the right time and place!
