  • This video showcases the suburban railway network in Copenhagen called s-tog. Similar to the german s-bahn. The clips are all from March + April 2022 and showcase various stations around the networks 7 lines. A, B, C, E, F, H and Bx
In addition this video also features a look at the lesser known station at Høvelte which is only served by select few trains on the A line at the end of the day.
S-tog in copenhagen are run by national state railway company DSB
Come along to see what life is like on the s-tog network from the busiest station at Nørreport to the smaller ones like Islev

The sound of an S-train accelerating is one of the most iconic sounds i know of. I can recognize that in my sleep.

1:45 Amazing catch of both variants crossing over each other that you can then use for the explanation instead of having two separate clips!

The sides of the trains have a very interesting, and quite rare, oblique shape.
The interiors look fantastically wide, spacious and generous.
The seating looks Futuristic with those oval outlines and those hues of blue that gives it a feel you might get into an Extra-Terrestrial U.F.O.
If you stare at those seats you may actually spot Stars, Galaxies and Nebulae.
The transparent partitions and inner doors give an airy feel.
    Beautiful, beautiful trains.
Shame for those useless graffiti, though.

Nice video. Could somebody explain the weird undercarriage of these trains which looks like pairs of single wheels on one end of each car (unlike Talgo not between them)?

The reason they're called S-trains (S-tog), is because when they began renovating the stations in the late 1920s as part of the electrification they put up big neon "S" signs at the entrance to the renovated stations. After line F started regular service in 1934 a survey was made about what to call the new trains. Besides a lot of very 1930s names, "S-train" was the most popular suggestion, thanks to the new neon S signs, and so the name stuck.
Incidentally, the S-train network was the only electrified service in Denmark until they started experiments with electrification on Kystbanen in the late 1970s. After the 1973 oil crisis it was decided to electrify everything to not be reliant on oil, but they originally only made it from Helsingør to Roskilde, because when the oil prices came down in the 1980s the government went "screw that" and decided it was better to just buy a bunch of diesel powered trains instead of spending money on electrification.

Great video. I can't get over the amount of graffiti on these trains, both inside and outside. What are the plans by government to put an end to this vandalism.?!

    • @Simon-Andersen
      @Simon-Andersen  Год назад +5

They try to clean them as fast as possible. But they dont have enough trains to keep up with the vandalism at the moment as they need most of them in service to meet demand
