You did a good job in this demo, showing the flaws and what it's lacking. Hopefully the devs pick up the feed back to tighten up these animation and sound. Especially the punch, I am just not feeling the weight from it.
Shotgun also feels underpowered. Point blank shots do little dmg it seems.
Yeah... after watching the footage again, something about it feels... off. The biggest frustration is I can't really pinpoint where exactly it looks off.
Strong independent female protagonist, who dont need no man, how very cliche.
Clearly not made for me, so won't be buying it.
@@bladesofseven Beyond the weak sounding guns, the sounds design is barely present anywhere, no footsteps, no wind, no grunts, no camera shake to imply recoil or wind or impact either, since neither the player nor the enemies flinch it ends up looking goofy as you and the enemies just limply unload on one another in the open until someone drops like a sack of dirt. It's devoid of any intensity as a result.
@@apk4381this is the funniest comment I've seen in a while, thnx man 🤡
They can actually call it Phantom Maiden.
They can, but with the first game being ultimately called "Ion Fury"
and not "Ion Maiden", - this just wouldn't have the right ring to it.
Honestly, after the shitshow Iron Maiden's lawyers pulled with the previous game, I'd rather any association with them be removed permanently.
Doesn't have the same ring to it as "Ion Maiden".
Weapon sounds need some work still, compared to IF they feel less meaty, but I'm confident that'll get dealt with. Everything else looks absolutely outstanding, can't wait to play it 😁
Sounds design is awful, especially the protagnists voice and line delivery
I wonder if it could be a sound mixing issue? The shotgun for example sounded OK when idling, but the boomy bass of the (amazing) soundtrack seemed to completely drown it, making it sound like a pea-shooter.
yeah the sound design is weak, but my main problem is really the AI.
All of the sound design is weak, lol. Just listen to the voice lines, and the lack of sounds coming from the enemies.
The art style really reminds me of Shogo: Mobile Armor Division.
Reminds me of UT99. The shotgun is basically the flak cannon and the shading/textures are nearly identical.
Guns lack impact. You just shoot the enemy until they ragdoll. Barely reacting to your shots.
Too busy adding in deadpan lines from the female voice actor
Also the enemy AI is weak.
People will complain about this but not bat an eye when games have the exact same boring death animation for every kill
it's alpha ver lol
@@yozhic I'm not saying it won't improve. Just that as of right this second it's pretty rough.
5:21 look how relaxed your yoga lesson made the soldier! He doesn't want to get up from his backbender position!
One comment is enough bud.
NO
Looks like they still have work to do on this. The gameplay feel is not as good as I was expecting. Weapons don't feel powerful.
How elegantly she presses the button.
They seem to have done a good job of transitioning from 2D sprites to full 3D! Also getting some really strong hints of Second Reality (specifically Unreal ][) in some parts of the music. Wondering if the music is done by Purple Motion or someone heavily inspired..
I love how the hand gun has a barrel with 34+ bullet slots
The Loverboy has 3 barrels and has always had 3 barrels since Ion Fury in 2019.
This feels a bit rough, but it is just in Alpha. I'm looking forward to seeing more of it later on.
I still need to play the dlc, damn
2D games going 3D is one of my favourite phenomena, it's always sick as fuck to see how they translate general gamefeel and aesthetic to an entirely new dimension (see Mario 64 and Risk of Rain 2)
While it's true that some games have transitioned beautifully, not all are able to make the leap from 2D to 3D with such poise and grace. And in my experience, more game franchises have crashed and burned trying to make the jump than have succeeded; though I suspect that won't be the case this time around.
I don't think we can talk of a transition when it's a different dev.
Ion Fury is a FPS
Ion Fury is 3D.
@@Maver1ck101 Kind of! It's on the Build engine, so think of it like Doom, where it's "fake" 3D using 2D grids and sprites and such (I won't claim to be an expert on how it works)
This game, however, is "true" 3D (Unreal Engine I think?), so while not quite the same kind of dimensional jump as my examples it's still cool to see
What the hell? I've been waiting to hear updates about this game for the longest. Nothing but radio silence after that first trailer.
Now, out of the blue, you drop a video playing it. Incredible.
They released a demo yesterday.
I love the little detail of those object frames when aiming at things. Just like in Deus Ex and System Shock, simply nice!
That shotgun is upsetting. It looks oddly like the Ironblast from Guncaster but lacks the power and the sound effects.
The art style is fantastic! However, audio balance is the main glaring issue. And I hope they can add more blood splatters. The gunplay would certainly benefit a lot if enemies would actually have more environmental blood stains come out of them when shot at. Some of the best retro shooters often understand the necessity of feedback like that. And I think, coming back to the audio issue, the sound design for the weapons could use some upgrades in terms of beefing up the bass and echo.
I like that it feels more tactical somehow and less fast
Yesterday was the first time when I have installed and played Ion Fury.
Great to see that there will be a 3D sequel.
Really shouldn't think of it as a sequel. IF was a full on boomer shooter. PF is based on Half Life 1 - not nearly as much movement focus. That and it's a completely different dev team - it's back to the guys who made Bombshell in 2016.
@@MurdokEXTRA Ah, shit! Bombshell was very meh...
0:15 apparently decades of research and billions of dollars amounted to a Nintendo Power Glove...
it looks pretty great :D though I really hope they plan on speeding up the reload animations a bit because they're kind of a pace killer at their current rate
4:44 that tactical buttslide down the stairs had to hurt
I think she may have a robotic butt now too. :)
"We can rebuild her butt, we have the technology"
So, do the grenades have the skull painted on at the factory? During the manufacturing process?
Or did someone do it during downtime, and the brass let it go because it increased morale?
Well its like how WW2 pilots decorated their planes with Shark faces
@@trblemayker5157 Exactly.
This is what DNF should have been... or the leaked build. The chunky 3D graphics look incredibly stylish and nostalgic to me.
And the SiN crossover is *chef's kiss*
It's so funny, they really go out of their way to borrow visual reference from multiple older games and I see those hints and I appreciate them. Like how it starts out VERY much inspired by the original DNF trailer from way back in like 2000, and then you get some Quake 2 in there and a little splash of daikatana, and then you see that vertical gate that just screams Goldeneye and no wonder a second or two later when she is using the assault rifle for the first time there's a lot of blocky Goldeneye and Perfect Dark in the design and even a hint of TimeSplitters. Just a really phenomenal way to convey to people with history with the genre that you mean business and are aiming high. I think it looks great!
The only thing I think I'm missing is having a little more dismemberment of enemies.
Oh man, we actually get gameplay for this now? This is gonna be awesome.
For billions of dollars and decades of research that power fist is pretty crappy.
*Nintendo Power Glove ad voice* It's so BAD!
This, and Maiden, would be such good VR games.
The Duke Nukem Forever that never took off. I can see alot of inspiration this game took from the original 1998 trailer.
oh yeah, they honestly should be ashamed of that, knowing what they did of dnf that was almost done and now have to be finished by fans. this phantom fury better be really really well made (this is not) if they don't want to look like complete morons once again...
imagine dnf restaured being better than a fully modern boomer shooter.....
@@TheHqppy kudos to the true DN fans who basically took a video trailer and turn it into a playable game by using the fragment that were used for the trailer. George Broussard should be ashamed and even put in jail for Bait and Switch
@@TheHqppy These are not the same developers though
@@quaz1232 so ?
I was never a massive doom fan (especially the oldies)
But god DAMN, that video intro tickled my frontal cortex!
This is what Duke Nukem Forever should have been.
DNF2001 was already leaked and a small team completes the game .
Phantom fury will be an awesome game that redefines shooters again . That is clear.
Honestly DNF is quite good in my opinion. I don't really understand all the hate it gets.
Given that Ion Fury was Duke Nukem 3D 2.0 it's only fair that its sequel be Duke Nukem Forever 2.0
@@Nov-5062because some sites and forums started the joke and kids/teens of then until today follow what their streamers, those places or others say like the braindeads they are. Of course is not Duke Nukem 3D, but DNF it's and was a decent game. In fact, people who use to say that haven't played the game at all or it's a solid evidence of a missing chromosome, which means you're wasting your time arguing with them.
@@Nov-5062 Because "quite good" doesn't really cut it when its predecessor was fuckin' awesome. Also, the loadout system sucked major ass.
Please make sure to have a texture filtering option, thanks!
8:41: first shot killed him, second was just to be sure, third one purely out of spite...
Now I just hope they add more impact full death sounds. Both command and conquer and Blood was brilliant at this.
Went from a supped up Build Engine to a supped up Unreal. Kinda reminds me of Star Trek Elite Force the most.
I hope each sequel goes for a different aesthetic. Gimme one based off of Deus Ex or Golden eye or the Gold Source next, lol.
Wait a second, the demo?! I've been waiting for this game to be released for ages
As a fan of the first game this looks like it's off to a good start. They definitely have the visual style and attitude down. Now they just need to improve the actual gunplay, give those massive weapons the massive punchy kickback and target impact needed to really sell their power. If I'm gonna shoot a dude with a triple-barreled magnum revolver, his corpse better be ragdolling back a good 10' or more, and that goes double for giant shotguns and super robot arm punches. The weapons I saw in this video felt and sounded about as threatening and impactful as an Airsoft pellet gun.
That being said, this 'is' an alpha build of a game still in development, and addressing my critiques is just a matter of fine tuning and polishing. And considering how good the guns felt in "Ion Fury", I expect "Phantom Fury" will be amazing when it's done.
Especially that shotgun. Pathetic in terms of impact and also the sound effect.
Now THIS is a shotgun, and one that looks oddly similar.
ruclips.net/video/BZnOG0lUnSU/видео.html
Yes, it DOES have 8 barrels. Yes, it is pump action.
Yes, it IS possessed by a demon.
The recoil throws YOU backwards. The impact on enemies shreds them.
The new Doom Eternal And Ultrakill And cyberpunk looks lit
obviously there's a lot of work to be done here, but what exists has me way more excited for the game than I was upon it's reveal. I was expecting it to feel a lot more faithful to S.I.N. (which I do enjoy, but idk, not enough to have that be the direction of this franchise). So to see things like the slide, a ledge clamber, and an instant Melee, has me feeling like they're gonna be implementing a lot more modern smoothness into the fray, while keeping the level design close to how it was in Ion Fury (which I always viewed as a hybrid of Duke 3D and Half-Life design philosophies)
Damn, it was good seeing Blade!
Damn, you're quick.
Huh!... So Duke and the Sin guy live in the same universe? Cool!
The look of the game is very accurate to the era it’s emulating. But the weapons feel like pea shooters, and the enemies don’t give proper feedback to being hit by them.
Also, these ABG jokes are always great lol dunno how you always come up with something new
Guy at the end of the demo reminds me of the original "Sin" 😀
Feels odd to see this announced before Ion Fury's DLC even hits.
HOLY CRAP IS THAT A SIN CROSSOVER AT THE END?
Played this last night and I guess I'm pretty much in agreement with a bunch of other comments. Gameplay wise it's already feeling quite good, my only real gripe is I do feel the sound design needs some punching up for the weapons as they don't have the same level of OOMPH the weapons in Ion Fury do. It's still got like a year or more of development left so it's probably not unreasonable to assume that's something on the list of "needs a bit more work."
No its not the release date is late 2023 and that's been set in stone
Was that John Blade at the end?
Definitely was. Glad someone else caught the S.I.N. cameo.
Waiting for this to come out so I can give Bombshell a try. I like to play games in story order.
Love the sound of the music. The original game had great music too.
I see we're starting to enter the early to mid 2000s retro territory now.
Incredible on how Quake 2 Remastered Mogged this hard
HA! that is LITERALLY a space marine drop pod near the end
6:38 man, they got Gordon Ramsey :(
Its raw!!!
Been waiting for this one.
I would prefer that they keep build engine. Now it looks like cheap Sin clone and lost most of its charm. Yes, build have tons of limits, but devs could at least keep sprites instead of models.
Nah. Sprites look terrible.
Awesome
This is looking reeeeeaaaallll nice. The developers are killing it with this one.
It feels like the sound effects for all the guns except for the SMG need to be adjusted. None of them have the oomph that their designs would imply. The revolver is particularly egregious because we already have a good example of what that sounds like in Ion Fury.
Constructive criticism: the robot arm is always gonna be cool but that punch attack looks ineffectual and felt weak.
AI is a bit rough but looks like they're going for a kind of half-life type gameplay
This looks awesome. A part of me will miss the build engine though bc of how freaking amazingly yinz pushed that old ass thing. It was like witchcraft.
Completely different developer
@@semvision oh really? Damn i had no idea and figured it was just the same team. I just got done playing thru ion fury again after watching this bc i havent played it in awhile. Only part in that game that i truly hate is when you hafta push a bunch of barrels over the fans to make a bunch of shitty platform jumps across to te otger side.
When Is released?
I’d love to find another game like Ion Fury. I tried Cultic and Turbo Overkill, but the gameplay of those games just didn’t satisfy me like Ion Fury.
Play Blood: Fresh Supply
Reminds me of a train level in wolfenstein
Note how at every single encounter the enemies get the drop on the player, and the player is constantly
taking multiple hits, staying alive only due to being a titanium brick with enemies being more like mosquitoes.
That means that under any other circumstances - this gameplay would either be impossible, or be completely
different. As in "peeking out of the cover and leaning headshots" different.
But since this is not a stealth shooter, then it only means one thing: BAD DESIGN.
Either due to incompetency, or to the lack of proper testing, - or most likely both.
Let's hope that this current approach gets scrapped and something more sensible, well established
in the genre and proven by time is implemented instead. Just like they did with the first game.
Well i the only tinha troung me off is that some wepons lack a good impact
Lacks impact, I think there needs to be some noises when the enemies get hit, they do seem to react a little to getting shot and the gun noises are fine, but it just feels weird without the hit confirmation, that might be what's missing if you can't beef up the gun effects more, also the voice lines seem too clean with the rest of the sounds, like they're louder then everything else and show no sign of exertion so it sounds like you played a recording of a one liner instead of one in the middle of a fight, should be able to hear the train moving or the enemies hitting the floor or something going on around you.
Also seeing the robot hand punch a jobber enemy in the chest and they just look at you is really disappointing; I feel like they should at least stagger a little if it's not going to send them flying or explode them, especially after the military guy tells you how super cool the arm is.
Looks pretty cool apart from that, sound pretty critical but I want to mention some possible improvements now while it's still early just in case someone working on the game can see it.
Ion Fury was amazing. Hope this becomes a reality.
3:59 I knew ABG is a cheapskate, but this takes the cake XD
Would love a full playtrugh
It is here Fuck yes
So that revolver shoots 3 bullets per shot right? Because there are 18 chambered but you can only shoot 6 shots
I really think they should have made it the left hand so that both hands do something while shooting
they made they transition Duke Nukem Forever should have done... AWESOME
I get it, basically ion fury in new engine ? All right !
More health items faster reloading basic abilities when reloading or running out of ammo.
Ion maiden lets go!!!
Mixed feel of Blood 2 and Unreal for me.
Looks alright, I guess? Feels it needs more polishing.
The thing that make me laugh is the level is just a copypasta of the train level from DNF01(!z3l1_1) and the irony ? The level from that demo is also Z3L1 along with more folders who uses the same name for the level order from DNF01, showing how much Fred really want to do his own DNF01 and the leaked build just made him mad about the comparaison with the reveal trailer and the DNF01 trailer one to the point he censors every message who talk about this...
Voidpoint should have made that sequel instead of Slipgate/Nu-3DR due to the fact they didn't learn the lesson from ROTT13 and Bombshell (Speaking of this one, I still remember a mention about an update to fix the game to be more playable) and at least, they (Voidpoint) proved they are more competent with Ion Fury and Aftershock will tear Phantom Fury apart due to being superior.
Wait is this built somehow on something skmiliar as rhw original deus ex?
looks like sega dreamcast game :'3
I'm sure I'm gonna sound like an idiot for asking this, but was there any word on a release date at all? I've just been really eager to play this game for a long time and it's my most anticipated game of the year next to the switch port of the Arkham trilogy
that melee attack is so disappointing. there’s no weight to it and no feedback when you hit an enemy with it. but i guess that’s how melee weapons were in past shooters
Decent demo, the two biggest issue is that the guns feel extremely lackluster, the enemies are feel too bullet spongy 💩💩
Is it an Alpha? I sure hope so, i dont want the finished game to be anything like this other than the base
I would have prefered the previous art style and graphics.
where is the demo ??
I’d love these games a whole heck of a lot more of the character we play would just shut up, there should be an option to turn off their quips
Is it me or are those guns forgot to pack some punch !?
Plus the enemies barely reacts when the get shot at
I was honestly expecting the title of the video to end with "And It's Shit!"
9:38 its spacemarines! oh it's just a computer
Mmm... I think it's a pretty dang good game, but- I feel like the guns need a bit more... Impact? I guess?
Everything looks so good EXCEPT that weight of weapons and sound. First Ion Fury had this down for most weapons, it felt damn good blowing apart enemies with any weapon. This im not feeling it, i hope the feedback gets taken into consideration, can't wait for the next game!
Since this is an alpha build, if enough people give feedback about the more glaring issues, the developers might pick up on it.
The gunplay, sound, and everything related needs work. Thank god this is still in alpha or they'd be hosed.
This has got major Deus Ex/system shock vibes.
the environment sounds so quiet, i want to hear the helicopter rotor scream as it's about to blow up. culmination in a loud boom, but everything except the player gunfire sounds are strangely quiet, they need to fix the audio
Finally, after 26 years, we're getting the Duke Nukem Forever we were promised.
