  • My FIRST EVER train ride in my own home country! ...Actually 3 train rides, and 2 transfers, 30 hours in total 😂 This was possibly the longest and most inconvenient train expedition I have ever gone on, but it was definitely memorable. Can't say I RECOMMEND these night trains, but I would do it again... on a different route with more interesting scenery, that is 🚞 #amtrak

Congrats on your first train trip in the US! I took long-haul trains in the US a few times and indeed, it was slower than driving . Once I took the train from New York to Miami and witnessed a guy being taken off the train due to an incident. I think if someone really didn't buy a ticket and couldn't come up with payment on board, they probably would just escort you out the train the next stop, which isn't very efficient but they just somehow lack the infrastructure to check tickets before boarding. It's so interesting to see Amish people taking the train! Thanks for yet another enjoyable vlog as always.

I took a train ride from Chicago to Detroit back in the eighties and while the Chicago Station was a luxurious palace with hidden lighting, deep pile carpets, tropical plants and marble walls, I was not ready for Detroit. For one thing, there was NO STREET visible when I exited the "train station," which was a construction trailer. We exited onto a gravel yard in a forest of chain-link fencing and random warehouses in the distance. After a bit of a walk, there was street and some cabs, though. Here in Europe, depending country and the route, it can be quite normal to have tickets checked only after the train is already moving. Some stations can have ticket gates/turnstiles before reaching the platforms, others not. In the latter case you can indeed just board a random train from the street. Some routes there will only be spot checks, other routes the conductor will check all tickets.

one thing in my bucket list is to travel through a very scenic route by train (luxurious sleeper of course🤣), like NYC to SF, or even better, dreaming of taking a transcontinental train from like, Chicago to buenos aires, that would be fantastic.
ok, Schenectady.... the first time I heard of this place is from the sitcom Will and Grace. there was a conversation in the show between Will and Grace,
Will: omg, he's wearing the prada shoes, he's gay! this is fantastic!
Grace: straight people wear prada too!
    Will: not in Schenectady!
in this video, it's the second time😄. and was that Chinese takeaway you were eating on the train?😄

Nice train ride though it took 30 hours ride. I personally think that you make the right choice to visit Schenectady at least once in your life time since you are having few hours of layover. It's a pretty small town, maybe need some upgrades will make it more appealing. Love your video. Stay safe Kat ☺😚

Once thought of taking Amtrak maany years ago when I was in the States, but eventually opted to fly as it was faster and CHEAPER.

K, I just left Shanghai for 5 nights stay. Heading to 烏鎮 for one night stay. 黃山 next for 4-night stay. I totally understand why you want to live in the countryside. What a hassle living in the city. For the same token I wouldn’t want to live in NYC.
My final stop for this trip is 杭州。

Great video. Unbiased and open-minded. This is the real world in all its awesomeness, as it actually is.
There are many things the US does better than China. For sure. And there are definitely also many things China does better than the US. Really.
In this case, for instance, fast and efficient train travel, well-maintained scenery, and way lower crime rates. I can understand the slight culture shock Kath has here, coming from living in China for a while.
And I appreciate her whimsical approach. America is very... American. As China is very... Chinese.
And both deserve their credit - this world is an awesome place if you just keep an open mind. This channel shows exactly that!

In 2017, I had a less than 24 hours lay over in Chicago en route to Hong Kong. After deplaning and going to my hotel close to the airport to check in for the night, I ventured back out and explored Chicago city center. I took the city train from the airport to downtown Chicago. It was very similar to NYC's. The vibe was reminiscent of NYC's Manhattan.

I used to live near Schenectady. There is a nice bakery couple blocks away from the train station. Union college look nice. I live in Amsterdam NY now next stop from Schenectady. Utica may look rough but very culture diverse with good Italian Polish Cambodia Vietnamese and Burmese. The train ride is more scenic along the Hudson River from Albany Rensellear to NY Penn Station.
