- Japanese heavy metal group Loudness opens their concert on the 2014 Monsters of Rock Cruise with "Crazy Nights". This was the first of two shows Loudness played on the ship.
These guys are such veterans. Saw them open a Motley Crue show in Kansas City (1985). Their guitar player is a true legend.
I saw them open in 1985 as well. But it wasn't for Motley Crue. I can't remember who it was, I saw sooooo many concerts back in the 80's. Maybe Judas Priest? Or ACDC? I can't be sure, my memory sucks.
I was 15 and on the front row of that show at Kemper in KC.....The Bass player gave his beer..Motley was amazing that night..Tommy drum riser was like 25 feet in the air...

Here's my related, sad metal story (happened around that same time and place): A friend from school invited me to the AC/DC-Yngwie Malmsteen show, I of course said yes right away. The tickets go on sale, friend waits in line for hours to buy them, friend can't buy the tickets because he could only pay with a check. He goes back home, gets cash and runs back to the gates of Kemper Arena. THE SHOW IS SOLD OUT. Will hate him forever (sort of), ...read the reviews the days after the concert, it was a spectacular show.

I have an opposite story of that AC/DC - Yngwie show. My friend and I wander into the record store in our local mall. We didn't even know AC/DC was coming or that tickets were on sale. They went on sale at 4PM (which was odd because most tickets go on sale at 10AM). Guy behind the counter sees that we look like rockers and says "Hey AC/DC tickets just went on sale". We ended up getting 3rd row. Fly on the Wall tour for AC/DC and Marching Out for Yngwie.
I saw this tour as well and still have the ticket stub. I was at the Forum in LA.
Releasing 26 albums as of today is such a milestone. Legend of legend!!
I would go on the cruise just to see them play 2 sets, such an underated band.

Monster Akira San, is with no doubt one of the Best of the genre & a very underrated guitar Virtuoso.

My wife and I wanted to go on a Monsters of Rock Cruise and found out that they are all booked up for like the next four years.
I don't think that's correct. They usually have new openings every year. The following year goes on sale pretty quickly after the current cruise ends though. Keep looking. It was a great time.

jimischild13 Japanese band Bow Wow kicked ass too, i got three of their albums, no one ever heard of them. I saw Loudness at a small club in 1985 they played a full set because they headlined, EZO is great i have their first album and their Fire Fire album which is great as well and tough to find, song called Night Crawler kicks ass if you haven't heard it. Another Japanese metal band from the 80's called Vow Wow is good too.

They haven't lost any of their talent. I cannot believe that the lead singer can still sing that way. How's that possible.

The older Akira, though far slower than his younger days in the 80s, still rocks the boat!..I hope no negative comments about these old rockers who had written and recorded so much of rock songs. We must not compare them today and their younger days. It is like commenting how slow carl lewis sprints today.
I watched him warm up before this show. 30 minutes of non-stop mind-blowing shredding. He still has it!

It's truly a CRYING SHAME that so many revered hard rock/metal monsters (like Loudness) have devolved into wearing goddamn cargo shorts, Wal-Mart tees, and sneakers! The 70's and 80's rock fashion may have been 'over the top', but THAT'S THE WHOLE IDEA!!!
'THUNDER IN THE EAST' and 'LIGHTNING STRIKES' are easily 2 of the BEST metal releases/albums EVER! Ungodly, first rate chops, lead guitar, and heavy crunch chord progressions!

Sorry to "judge a book by its cover," and, YES, I know, the MUSIC is what matters, BUT, I'm not impressed by the way the band looks, here. I wish they would go back to their "Thunder In The East" look! In my opinion, THAT look was, what I call, "HEAVY METAL!" Also, I wish they would "get into the music" (more) like they did "back in the day!"
That was almost 30 years ago. Of course they're not going to look like they did 30 years ago - or move around and act like they did 30 years ago.

You forget this was a band that sold out in the late 90s; early 2000s by trying to be a grunge band.
